Guess Who's Leaving Chicago?

  • Millionaires are leaving Chicago more than any other city in the United States on a net basis, according to a new report.

About 3,000 individuals with net assets of $1 million or more, not including their primary residence, moved from the city last year, with many citing rising racial tensions and worries about crime as factors in the decision, according to research firm New World Wealth. That represented about 2 percent of the city's high net worth individuals.
And where did Chicago fall in the world wide rankings of millionaires leaving? Third:
  • Paris saw the largest exodus. The French city lost 7,000, or 6 percent, of its millionaires, followed by Rome, which lost 5,000, or 7 percent. Chicago was next, followed by Athens.
Paris, Rome and Athens - three basket cases of unassimilated muslim populations, transient economic refugees and decades of socialist government that have pretty much doomed Europe to a new Dark Ages in the coming decade...and Chicago right in the midst of them.

So what are Illinois politicians being told? Raise taxes again!
  • A respected urban planning group is calling for a significant hike in the state’s gasoline tax to pay for a much needed transportation program, reports WBBM [...].

You won’t get much argument about the Metropolitan Planning Council’s assertion that Illinois’ roads, bridges and rail lines have fallen into bad shape and MPC senior fellow Jim Reilly, a veteran of state government, told the City Club of Chicago the state needs $43 billion over the next 10 years to make things right.

“If you add thirty cents to the gas tax, that may be a lot but keep in mind it hasn’t been increased since ’91, if you add thirty cents to the gas tax and increase vehicle registration fees across the board, you get the total that we need,” he says.

Reilly admits passing that kind of tax hike is a tall order but he says people have to get over their penchant for wanting everything and not wanting to pay anything for it.
How about people in Springfield get over their penchant for spending money they don't have, paying down the debt they do have, and stop chasing people who actually pay taxes out of Illinois. It's a fucking death spiral....and it's getting tighter.

Hit the middle to low income individuals/families with losing more money out of their pocket for the privilege to drive in Illinois.

This isn't about fixing infra-structure, what happened to all the tax monies taken by Quinn's 5% tax? This is about having money to pay the contractors who donate to political campaigns, it's the payback. If notice Wisconsin has construction on its roads, etc and finishes the projects in no time at all. I guess the weather is better up there.

Cook County officials unveil $50 million anti-violence plan

04:15pm, April 4, 2016

"CHICAGO -- Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin, Sheriff Tom Dart and others unveiled what they are calling the "Community Stabilization and Anti-Violence Act" today at Chicago Urban League headquarters on the South Side.

"Under the plan, Cook County would impose a 4-cent per gallon tax on gas that would raise $50 million in revenue to fund programs to help teens find jobs. The tax is estimated to cost the average driver in Cook County about $28 a year."

Do as much good as this did --

Questions surround $55 million program to cut violence in Chicago

Mon., December 3, 2012

"On a chilly afternoon this fall, teenagers across Chicago's South Side were busy at work, earning $8.75 an hour to hand out fliers with a message of non-violence.
"Our message that we're giving out today is about being healthy," said 18-year-old Lucia Eloisa. "One of the key pointers is about taking time to reflect and seek inner peace."

"A four-month CNN investigation found that not only did the Neighborhood Recovery Initiative (NRI) pay teens to hand out fliers promoting inner peace, it also paid these at-risk teens to take field trips to museums, march in a parade with the governor, and even attend a yoga class to learn how to handle stress..."

But...you and all the other Fergusonites don't WANT the police to do anything about the full-blown shooting war your constituents are fighting in this city.

Oh --

Tax Hike Vote Considered Key to Ferguson Deal With Justice Department

FERGUSON, Mo. — Apr 5, 2016, 7:23 AM ET

"Implementation of Ferguson's settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice is at stake Tuesday as voters in the St. Louis suburb consider two tax hike proposals.

"Mayor James Knowles III said last week that sales and property taxes must increase if Ferguson is going to pay for changes sought by the Justice Department...

"The City Council last month agreed to a settlement that calls for the hiring of a monitor; diversity training for police; purchase of software and hiring of staff to analyze records on arrests, use of force and other police matters; and outfitting all officers and jail workers with body cameras.

"City leaders say measures associated with the agreement will cost Ferguson $2.3 million over three years, including $1 million in year one.

"That's a lot for a government already facing a $2.9 million deficit due largely to fallout from the shooting, such as sales tax declines [from burned-out businesses and people avoiding the place], skyrocketing legal costs and the loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars in court fines and fees from reforms already in place. [Can't give out traffic tickets -- it's racist.]

"One ballot measure would impose an economic development sales tax, the other a property tax increase that would cost about $76 annually for a home worth $100,000.

"Passage of both still won't get the city to the break-even point, Knowles said. The budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1 calls for across-the-board pay cuts of 3 percent.

"Knowles said if the tax measures fail, the city would likely lay off around a dozen members of the police force, six firefighters, and close one of the two fire stations.

"If police jobs are cut, Knowles said it's hard to imagine that the city could implement the type of community policing required by the Justice Department settlement. Money to pay for things such as software and hiring of police record analysts would also be hard to come by..."

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/tax-hike-vote-considered-key-ferguson-deal-justice-38154837

Higher taxes, fewer boots on the street stopping crime and fighting fires, and more asses in swivel chairs crunching numbers. (One "federal monitor) costs about $350,000 per year.)

4/05/2016 03:08:00 AM

The trick is sheer force of numbers. Best way is to import as many relations as you can, take in boarders on mattresses in the basement, and hive up in a single-family house with fifteen different names on scraps of paper taped to the mailbox. Pool all the various "benefits." Just one child in there "eligible for a school lunch program" gets everyone cheap/free computers and broadband access. Cars parked in front yard, in back yard, muffler shop howling away with air tools in the garage, a table selling food out front, and a mountain of garbage out back.

...and when the Census worker comes around, all those names are removed, the place is dark, and no one answers the door.

"The taxes. Fees, fines and insurance rates should keep most people under 25k out of cars..."

All the BS statistics and "cost of living" are predicated on the fading American "nuclear family;" Mom, Dad, two kids. Start calculating this stuff for a single elderly person and you'll REALLY see the bite this disaster is taking.

When the can is no longer "kickable," IL's professional criminal class (the politicians) will try to force huge tax increases onto taxpayers' backs.

The big one will be property taxes. I already pay 3.6% of market value, year in and year out, on a modest house. By massively raising taxes, home prices will be driven lower.

Wait for it. The death-spiral of rising taxes & declining market values is either already in place or about to begin. Then the entire state of Illinois will become One Big Detroit.

This is what happens when the parasites fed by taxes outnumber those who pay them.

I pay for it when I earn my money, when I spend my money, and when I get bills for things that couldn't be collected during the earning or spending process. I pay for it every which way, and I'm sick of it. Stop building new parks, and stadiums, and highways that no one ever asked for. Stop giving it away to people who are too lazy to work for it themselves, while taking it away from people who have already earned it. And stop telling me that I need to "get over my penchant for wanting", when all you've ever done as an elected politician is TAKEN what other people have EARNED and lined your's and your cronies' pockets with it. The Breakers? Holy God. Ever seen an aerial shot of the whole thing and the grounds? Spectacular.

Original builder: Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Vanderbilt II
Architect: Richard Morris Hunt
Construction dates: 1893-1895
Materials: Brick faced with Indiana limestone

Hunt was one of the most distinguished architects of the time, a giant. One writer described him as "fierce -- a frown in a suit." Worked on the Columbian Exposition here, everything. We shall seldom see men like him again.

"Even in a city filled with over-the-top mansions, The Breakers was like no other. Cornelius Vanderbilt II, president and chairman of the New York Central Railroad, spared no expense when he built it. It has wall panels made of platinum."

Germany's Angela Merkel is one good example. Rahm "Sanctuary City/Welcoming City" Emanuel is another.

Keep always in mind that the Statue Of Liberty was a gift from France to celebrate America's great democracy. That plaque about "huddled masses of the teeming shore" was a later add-on, a Post-It note written by a radical in support of the huge wave of her fellows, the vast Eastern European immigration going on at the time.

The modern-day equivalent can be seen here, as Austria now deploys troops to the Brenner Pass to stop the enormous influx that's on the march from Italy. Painted by black-hooded crazies with rollers and bucket. The orange life jackets that were worn by the invaders when at sea were placed there to induce guilt and soften the hearts of those whose society is being destroyed.

Garda, the armored car guys, have stopped doing business with the state, which refuses to pay its bills. Now there is a lot of whining about "excessive OT" for Secretary Of State Police, who have to transport the cash take from the DMV offices to the bank themselves. "Not equipped for that job, inadequate security," etc.

You didn't move out of Chicago because.... You didn't move out of Cook because.... You didn't leave Illinois because.... And now you're entertaining the rest of us with your continual pissing and moaning about how bad you've got it.

What is wrong with these politicians? We have to "get over" wanting something for nothing? Someone needs to give this guy a reality check. It's not unreasonable for Illinois taxpayers to want SOMETHING for the ludicrously high taxes we pay!
Not enough money for street repairs? Why not look into why that is instead of raising our already high gas prices? Oh wait, that would make sense. And if we know anything, it's that common sense is not Illinois lawmakers' superpower.

Clinton ultimately found the ultimate tax loophole, a non-profit foundation in which she can control lots of tax free money. The Clinton Foundation funded by the whose who are in the uber 1% percent. She has criticized the rich for not paying their fair share of taxes so that makes her a backwards Arkansas redneck hypocrite.

Couldn't agree more. Take a look at all the new high rises going up on the near north and downtown. Most are condos but plenty of rental units. Tribune has has articles Sunday and Monday about empty nesters moving from the north shore to the near north. Try to find parking or to get into a good restaurant. They are booked solid and bars are packed

Theyv raise the gas tax 30 cents a gallon and you will see traffic on the roads to Wisconsin and Indiana at a standstill. People will be flocking to those states to buy their gas. I have been doing that for years now. I gassed up yesterday for 1.99 a gallon in Wisconsin. Then went shopping at Woodmans where there is no tax on food and the selection of product is much better.

4/05/2016 07:19:00 AM

Hey Genius -
One Condo sale does NOT make the whole market. Better look at all those who are trying to sell condos that aren't getting buyers. (or selling condos at a deep loss)

There was just a thread here on SCC about subsidized housing and how some of the "Million dollar condos" are being used for Section 8 housing - where the owner gets $3,000 a month from CHA and the "tenant" pays their fair share of $200 a month.(a study in the Sun Times)

Gimme a break! I would NOT want to be holding any Million dollar condo in Chicago. (unless I could get that CHA Section 8 money)

Well Lovey and I won't be buying in Chicago.

Stick me once with a bad price on my house, you aren't going to stick a Howell with an overpriced condo. Those monthly assessments for ALL those downtown condos are outrageous.

Plus, there are "some amenities" we would rather do without. I don't want to have to walk through protesters or CTU strikes or be stuck on Lake Shore Drive while some hooligans stand in the middle of the street.

If I want that, we can vacation to some third-world country and stay at the dictator's palace. At least in those countries, they know how to disperse a crowd real fast.

There IS a whole other Illinois once you get @
100 miles from Shitcago.

Know one guy who retired about 10 years ago.
He purchased pieces and parcels in Arkansas
over the years and cleared/improved it and built
a sturdy little brick cottage.

He's a winner...
He has a spring-fed creek and a little lake
on his land and the water is virtually drinkable
at the source.

Happy for the guy.
If only we all could leave the bastardry,
assholery and rampant fuckery of this city behind and find a place where
we can sit out and have a coffee with family

No worries about a little goblin like Fran Spielman

After 20 to 40 years on this job,
sometimes a place like Wyoming

Which is why so many opt to flee
