Close the Beaches!

  • Police shut down car traffic to Montrose Beach at Wilson and Montrose avenues Monday afternoon because of overcrowding, officials said.

About noon, authorities decided to stop all traffic at both entrances, police said.
At least it was for a real reason - overcrowding - and not because it "was too hot" like McJerseyShore claimed.

Closing the entrances at Montrose, Wilson, and sometimes Lawrence happens more often than reported. We used to have to do it when you would get complete gridlock on Simonds, Montrose Drive, Montrose Harbor Dr, and on Wilson/Lawrence. There are just no places for the cars to go, and you can't get any emergency vehicles in/out if you had to do so.

Enlarge the beaches in order to accommodate more people. A weekend or holiday at the beach is a sacred right of all Americans.

You're mistaken. That boondoggle about it being "too hot" was done under McGoofy..... fairly early in his reign.

That was McCarthy fuckheads the first in a thousand with Rahm even though they were caught red handed a week later when the FOI of 911 calls was revealed Nobody cared then when The Mayor and The Sup conspired to tell a bold face lie. I think Gary was the boss of all of three weeks

Closing beaches because of overcrowding is nothing new. When I was a kid on the South side police would close the parking lots to Rainbow Beach on a regular basis. If you weren't there by noon you could forget about getting in by car. Later when I worked in 004 we would have to close Cal Park every weekend because if you didn't cars would be double and sometimes triple parked. Would have thought you were at a ghetto church on the west side.
Those days beaches you had maybe a dozen coppers assigned to the parks on the weekends.
Only seems like responsible decision making on the part of whoever is running the show.

That 50 plus encampment of vagrants cleared out of the tunnel at Lawrence yet? Now that something to pay overtime for, would need a hundred plus officers to clear those bums out. Good luck walking through that tunnel citizens.

i have lived by the lake front most of my life. The only time they closed the beach was because of ecoila in the water. Now they close it like its for life or death. I was down there memorial day around 2 pm . After finding parking elsewhere i started walking towards Montrose beach and noticed a bunch of parking spaces. And when i reached the beach the beach was half filled. More like u were worried that because manpower is down big time and no summer mobile the beach might go up for grabs.
Maybe u should start a VRI summer mobile so u can actually give some kind of service to real tax payers and not the parasites.

And,,,,,,so fuckin' what. 020 closes Simmonds Dr from Lawrence to Foster most weekends in from May to September. It's prudent, people can hoof it in, just can't drive in.

Watch out for assholes parking up by LSD and walking in that way.

After seeing in the parking lot suburban and no city stickers on vehicles by the beaches, this is a great idea. Went to Indiana dunes recently you pay to enter, beach was pristine, the garbage and disarray of our lakefront after they finally left disgraceful! This is a great easy sources of much needed revenue maybe the dean of the city council Ed Burke could get behind this, we could make serious money not from the city $10.00 adults kids $5.00, from Chicago 1/2 price we win keeps thugs and neverdowells out, they won't pay to cause mayhem that would be Winning right alderman?

they were talking think it was Burke about a commuter tax on all suburban residents who work here, that beach idea is great it is recreational tax that could draw a lot of cash! But lets hope that "ugly Betty" Lucas museum is not allowed where was rahm coming up with that 1.5 Billion to freely give the uber rich lucas and his wife? Gee rahm you could shore up your share of required police pension in 1 full sweep "just do it" rahm you have to pay your bills before you burden the taxpayers with more bills it makes it more fun!

Leave the damned beaches alone. A fee here, a fee there, a fine, a permit, another and another and another.
Today, the admission was made that there weren't enough garbage cans and there wasn't enough crew available to remove trash on a warm, beautiful, first major summer holiday.
Yes, the people were pigs. No, there wasn't enough hired help on hand.
And it was still cheaper to divert the entire cleaning crew to the beach on Tuesday than it would have been to pay them overtime on Monday, so that's why it was handled the way it was.
Tell the Park District to get all the cans out of storage on time. Tell them to get all hands on deck on holidays. In other words, tell them to do their damn job. I know it's radical, but - shocker - there's this thing called a calendar. It shows Memorial Day, July 4th (when is that, again?) and Labor Day. Maybe they could (gasp!) PLAN AHEAD.

One goofball plan comes by way of the National Park Service, who must think we are dealing with sensitive, environmentally conscious rock climbers here.

"No trash containers at all. You packed it in, you pack it out."

Tossing some 30-packs and a couple big bags of Kingsford out of the car ain't hardly "packing..."

...and just you wait until you tell the crew to s__t and p__s in approved plastic bottles and "pack those out" with. We had enough of that with NATO.
