This is another example of how disgusting and outrageous this department has become by allowing lawless, irresponsible crime cultured leeches of society yet another position of importance and attention. Meanwhile, they continue to absolutely decimate and demoralize the rank and file with their bean counting, kowtowing, micro-managing, incompetence.

On another note worked a security job last night, the guy who I was escorting around (No keesing bandit not that type of escort) was from suburban Michigan he asked me if I was armed, i said yes why? His reply "why i watch the news this city is really crime ridden,and many are being shot" I told him he was correct and when and if he returns he could call for security! The reply priceless "Next time I am here I will request 3 off-duty officers,because I need to be sure to go home to my family, your mayor has let police manpower dwindle!"

The pension fund is at 3.01 billion and paying out 600 million a year to over 13444 recipients annually. The city contributes 2 for 1 at a combined rate of about 286 million with our payroll deductions. The annual police budget for 2016 went from 12822 positions in 2015 to 12111 for 2016. Based on this math and an influx of new hires being paid 47K to start, the amount the city will match 2 for 1 will decrease and the pay out to recent retirees will increase as a result of their higher payroll at time of retirement. The fund continues to sell assets to make the annuity payments. At this rate the fund will be depleted in 7 years!!!! The math does not lie. If you came on in the 1990s the fund was at 4.2billion then.

It's the same story in 004. People hidden in every office (especially the front office and CAPS) and one "406" car on days exempt from answering calls or backing up fellow officers.
I worked for a Cmdr back in 89 who had the balls to tell me that I should think of the victim. I told him that in the last 20 years I could count on one hand the amount of real victims I've come across(kids 5 & under), and the only victims I see are me & the rest of the troops. Holds true even more so today. Glad I'm now out.
Chicago State University is part of the state of Illinois university system. It has no connection with the City of Chicago education system.
It's a "commuter college". They have only a small dormitory building. Students who attend CSU usually do not attend full time four years or even years in a row. Often they have gap semesters or years when they leave school and work to get tuition money for the next semester or school year.
You can't judge the graduation rate of CSU using the "four year" standard used for the U. of Illinois in Urbana.

No, like all exempts he had his credentials surgically removed with his first merit promotion.
Richard M Daley was the down fall of CPD.
He began caps as a way to endear himself to the black community.
He began merit promotion for Sergeants and above, again to endear himself to the black community.
He closed COS and built OEMC in order give black alderman patronage spots for dispatcher, and TMA's to replace loop traffic.

What Eddie needs to do is a long running P.R. campaign at all levels. He needs to get out and tell the citizens to RESPECT YOUR POLICE. Tell the parents to teach their kids if they are lost or in danger and can't find someone they know look for a police officer. Kids should be taught that a police officer is someone to run to not run from.
We need to get officers visiting school classrooms again, coloring books and all. We need a program for the teachers otherwise the only voices they hear are the BLMs and gangbangers.
Eddie needs to get Father Pf-what's-his name and all the other Rev-runs a talking to and get them in line with this. The "no snitching" that they condone is getting people killed and people need to talk to the police.

Okay, I'll call it by another name. I'd call it taking three hours away from my OWN mother (or daughter, or sister, or mother-in-law) on Mother's Day, a Sunday, the one day a week a commander can reasonably hope is their own (unless one of their people gets into a shooting).

You can't do policing anymore. Those days are gone and gone for a generation to come. Car chases? gone. Stopping gang bangers on the corners and patting them down? Gone. Chasing the hood rats from the corners? Gone. Taking hood rats from their cars and searchign the cars? Gone And, that is the good part. What I saw those cops on the line do during demonstrations and what they had to take from the ahole demonstrators was beyond belief !! Some of those staring loud mouth citizens needs a smack in the mouth as they got way too close for comfort.I did not see any of the brass on the line. They stayed way back !!

I am a big fan of SCC and a big supporter of CPD. But 5/11/2016 09:23:00 AM is absolutely correct.
Critics point out that since the brass wont show up for cops who have been killed or injured, then WTF should the brass show up when some dirtbag shithead gets shot? The critics are absolutely correct.
Nevertheless, CPD has a massive image problem. Doing something like this and merely saying that no parent (however bad) should ever have to bury a child (however bad) is a small but significant step in trying to turn CPD's image around. Kindness and empathy is usually met with kindness and empathy. Everyone feels flattered by being asked their opinion. I have no doubt that questions like "Mam, what do you think we could do to prevent something like this from happening again?" just might yield a surprising amount of actionable information. And even if it doesn't, the visitee will still no doubt tell at least 5-10 people that she was visited by some cops who actually did seem to care.
CPD's image problem is so big and so bad, that it can only be reversed one brick at a time. And this is a step in the right direction. And it costs nothing.
So try it for 6 months. And if I am all wrong, ok, then fuck it.
Call the next case. Not a cop.
Here's an idea, how about the Mayor leave everything about the police department ( which he knows jack shit about anyway)alone, and just pay attention to what he's supposed to, maybe this city will have half a chance.

Biggest scam going now is " custom notifications " and " call ins". Who's paying for all this ? Waste of time and manpower that goes into all these hug a thug programs. The city contributes 2 for 1 at a combined rate of about 286 million with our payroll deductions. The annual police budget for 2016 went from 12822 positions in 2015 to 12111 for 2016. Based on this math and an influx of new hires being paid 47K to start, the amount the city will match 2 for 1 will decrease and the pay out to recent retirees will increase as a result of their higher payroll at time of retirement. The fund continues to sell assets to make the annuity payments. At this rate the fund will be depleted in 7 years!!!! The math does not lie. If you came on in the 1990s the fund was at 4.2billion then.
This is the REAL ISSUE !!!!!!
This is why I'm staying until the end. Better to die of hunger later than sooner.

Doesn't cost a penny, doesn't mean you believe junior to be an upstanding citizen, just means you empathize with another human being that they lost a loved one. Even if they weren't too happy with that loved ones lifestyle at that time. Even if the mom has issues of her own.

Do moms of victims withhold information or not press those who have it? Absolutely they do. Sometimes people just appreciate the thought or attention. Someday that person might witness a police involved shooting and do the right thing instead of "I didn't see nothing" or join the bandwagon of haters who lie on us.

One of my Parents is a Boss and he was sent to go out for this thing. As usual Dad was lucky cuz they fed him, provided adult libations, and were playing "the more the merrier" game. He certainly didn't expect that and ended up having a pretty decent couple four hours.
I agree that this was a goofy call by who/whatever but if U have to go these people in 006 weren't too bad to say the least.
They didn't want the PO PO around for such a thing but they didn't have a problem with an extra guest.
Oddly, he enjoyed himself, but he was lucky cuz the other oyster shots in command dealt with people that didn't want anyone to cover at all from "this thing of ours."

we all know people on duty disability that are able to walk , talk , drive kids to school , sports , vacation , some hold part time
all this while we work afternoons , cannot get time due

This is one of the most ignorant things I have read on here in awhile. Just because someone on disability can " walk , talk , drive kids to school" does not mean they don't deal with terrible pain and suffering from whatever their injury might be. You obviously have never dealt with chronic pain. You learn to LIVE with it you asshole. Unfortunately that doesn't mean that a doctor is going to sign off on the paperwork that the department requires to come back to work. Not everyone has a doctor who is willing to lie for them, or a phonecall to someone who will ensure a cushy inside spot so they're not on the street ENDANGERING the lives of other officers because they cannot live up to the physical abilities that this job demands. When you crawl out of your parent's basement tell mommy I said hi you troll.

You forgot one little thing. How much interest is that 3.01 billion dollars earning per year? You have to factor that in too. Even at a measly 3% it would be earning 90 million per year, plus the contributions. 6% is more realistic so that's 180 million plus the 286 million in contributions. It's still a deficit but it's not that huge. If Rahm would make the $550 million payment he's supposed to make and start putting the proper amounts into the damn thing in addition to hiring the proper amount of officers to contribute to it, we could easily get out of this problem. Instead of wasting money on projects this city doesn't need like a Star Wars museum, maybe he should put the money into the pensions. This is a thieving politician created problem. Everyone keep voting democrat.

I once had a WC tell me I couldn't have the "Death in Family" time off for my mother in law. I told him then I'd take "Time Due" if necessary. Nope, he gave me the bullshit "manpower" crap. Little did he know that I ALREADY CHECKED and KNEW every car was manned for the three days I wanted. Fine, I told him then SUSPEND me now because I'm going to be ABSENT for the three days I'm ENTITLED TO when a family member dies. Called his bullshit bluff and never heard a word more about not being at work.

This job is usually taken by a friend of the district commander, although I do know one commander that was ordered to take a lieutenant as head of tact team by a deputy Supt. It can happen. Most tact lieutenants do nothing, take cars home and can't be found during the tour of duty. But, I have known some remarkable exceptions. It is a cushy job that really is not needed. Put the tact teams on the watch to work for the watch and actually work crime patterns and not be forced to bring in BS arrests and write ISR.
