Detectives Assaulted
Anyone have any reports on this incident?
- SCC this incident isn't widely known because it ended as well as it could have I suppose.
But last week in 010, two detectives were patrolling the district in an Ford Fusion looking to identify a car in one of their cases. A Latin King gang member throws up a gang sign at them, and as the detectives car stops, the Latin King runs up to the drivers door and puts a gun in the drivers face. Luckily as things turned out he recognized they weren't rivals and fled on foot. He was taken into custody and was found to have TWO guns on him. The incident is verified because it was captured on surveillance video.
But here's the kicker. He was 46 years old. In 1986 he was sentenced to 45 years for a murder. While in custody, he stabbed a corrections liutenant and did 10 years of solitary in Tamms for it. After stabbing the liutenant, why not let him out after only 25 years for his "good behavior." And then after his release he took a burglary pinch and hit probation.
The system is broken. And we are lucky that this particular incident didn't end up much worse. Luckily he was "old school" enough that he wanted to verify his target first instead of spraying at their car at the hint of a challenge like these younger kids. Plus, the heads up actions of the detectives probably saved their lives. Glad it all worked out, but our good luck can only extend so far, and in a system like this the deck seems stacked against us.

Seems like there should be some "zero tolerance" going on around the Marquette District, but we suppose being 3,000 officers short has kind of put a damper on things like that, along with actually having the stones to sweep the corners like the old days.

It's as simple as this , either the police or the criminals control the streets . I suppose a third party would be the good citizens but they seem a little reclusive in some neighborhoods .

People in penitentiaries don't receive 'good time' for violent crimes. Why the IDOC chose to allow this subject out after only 25 years is anyone's business (had to be the parole board, they make those decisions), but no one receives good time for violent crimes.

In Gibbon's "Decline and fall of the Roman Empire" he suggests, in addition to contaminated water because of the lead pipes, other contributory reasons were the loss of civic virtue and the pre-occupation with sports and celebrities.

Lawyers routinely paint the picture of their poor client, a disadvantaged youth, he fell through the cracks, he never had a chance. It is all a lie.

Glad the Detectives involved are safe and they were able to arrest this thug shitbird yet again.... hopefully this time the judge is not corrupt and puts this shithead away for the rest of his life, but sadly in Crook County and Illinois that is very unlikely to happen....

How does make the law enforcement professionals who worked with a fallen officer? This practice will be strictly enforced by exempt command members and sworn members from preventive programs.
The speech of the day by the crooked politicians will praise police and forward their contrived fabricated heartfelt sympathy for peacekeepers. The following day, the same elected clowns are writing laws handcuffing the police, badmouthing the police in the media and calling for civil right prosecutions on behalf of criminals appeasing their non-working less than educated criminal sympathizing voting constituents.
Bring back Maria C. Pena from that Marquette District. She made those custom notifications to those hardcore members to go straight or face her music. Too bad she was promoted to street deputy. Her selfless devotion was acknowledged by then Superintendent Garry McCarthy. Some may laugh, but untold street crimes were averted. When Maria talks, gang bangers listened.
If Maria was still in the district, her mere presence would have made that I.D.O.C. graduate fly straight. Now that she has egg stuff on her gold crown cap, law breakers would take notice and recognize. As always, the Pena is mightier than the sword. With Maria at the helm, this incident with the 010th District Detectives would have only been some made up academic scenario exercise not a reality.
The POS dropped the gun and fled as the Det's exited the vehicle, realizing they were the police. Both Det's are runners and it took them the better part of three seconds to catch the offender. They got him on the ground and cuffed him, found the second gun when they got him up and searched him. Peggy Chiampas set bond at a million bucks. Part of it was captured on video.

Alero used to be Official Car of The Latin Kings, street soldier and below.
But that is now a "Zombie Car", a vehicle from a manufacturer that no longer exists.
Now that is a topper!
