IPRA Attorney

No wonder Evans is suing everyone he can connect with his case. Have you seen what's investigating?
  • A Chicago agency that looks into police misconduct has booted one of its staff attorneys over social-media use, WBEZ has learned.

The Independent Police Review Authority forced chief investigative law officer Lindsay Wilson Gowin to resign after she exchanged dozens of private Twitter messages with a user of that network who claimed to be part of a drug-dealing gang on the city’s South Side.
The story goes on to explore her misrepresentations as head of investigations and an alleged shakedown of a dope dealer that seems to have no basis in reality, except some bragging on social media posts.

Same Lindsay Gowan that used to be at corporation counsel? I heard she went to IPRA. Corporation counsel will blow you to make you think they're the ultimate badge-bunnies. At the end of the day, don't trust them. She seemed nice and heard from multiple people about how pro-police she is. You truly can't trust anyone on this job. Gutless attorneys that sit behind a desk acting like they know how the job is shouldn't be trusted. After all, if they were that interested in the job, they'd take it and stop being cheerleaders. Mistake noted.

Yup, just as I thought. Same little cheerleader from corporation counsel. She was always so pro-police when I met her, always talking about how we fight the good fight, they're in our corner bullshit. They're pretty much all the same there. Like they have some weird obsession with cops and are always trying to prove they're like you (but in a courtroom playing cops). Looks like their passions can go both ways...as much as they love to defend you, the spineless fucks will look to gut you if the price is right. The below exerpts of this false cheerleader highlights how proud she is to go above and beyond for screwing cops (after myself and others bought into her bullshit):

“I am now the head of investigations at the new police oversight agency,” Gowin wrote to the gang member. “This new agency is not fucking around.”

Sissac said the head of IPRA investigations is Fairley, not Gowin.

Gowin also asked the gang member whether it would be “feasible for investigators to do surveillance” as the cop engaged in the alleged extortion.

“Do you think he might come by this morning?” Gowin asked. “I might be able to put a team out there if someone could tell us where to position ourselves to see but not be seen.”

Sissac said IPRA is not authorized to perform surveillance or investigate corruption allegations.

Gowin acknowledged she “could have been more precise” about her role in IPRA and about the agency’s authority but said the gang member “was not interested in IPRA’s org chart” or jurisdictional issues.

“I was trying to communicate with him that he was confiding in someone who could and would take action to make sure the allegations were investigated,” Gowin said.

Gowin, 36, grew up in downstate Fisher and received a Columbia University law degree in 2004. She was admitted to the Illinois bar later that year.

Fairley created Gowin’s job this year to beef up legal oversight of IPRA investigations. Gowin’s resignation came less than seven weeks after she joined the agency.

For the previous four years, Gowin defended police officers and the city as an assistant corporation counsel in the Law Department’s Federal Civil Rights Litigation Division, a unit under fire for its handling of potential evidence. In June, the city listed her salary as $67,152.

So they fire the low hanging fruit, but what is the status of investigation (if there ever was one) into the incompetence, inattention of duty, etc of dumb dumb IPRA head Sharon Fairley and her team who failed to meet a 5 year deadline related to investigation of Glen Evans ? Dare I say it, perhaps it is being swept under the rug ...

Gee, I didn't hear about that.
Will Special Ed's concierge, Googliehomie send out an Dept email on the particulars?

If WikiLeaks ever released half of their Chicago emails....wow, a story could be told of all the phony shit that's sent back and forth between city hall and IPRA.

I have to say that she was my attorney on a recent lawsuit and her and her team did an outstanding job. The case went to trial and the plaintiff received nothing. We prevailed. Unfortunately people use bad judgement sometimes and pay the consequences of those decisions. Us as the police have vast experience in this area as well.

+++++

Glad to hear it but don't think for a second that she did good for you. She did it for herself, obviously. If you read the article, it doesn't say anything about her trying to notify authorities when she became explicitly aware of a threat to KILL POLICE OFFICERS. Instead, she said, 'a dead cop and a life sentence doesn't benefit anyone.' She wanted to conduct surveillance and fire the cops. If you think she just made a simple mistake but had good intentions, you need to get your head checked. Again, glad your case worked.

Not you.

Why does she get to resign and not be charged with something criminal? This is bull like all the other political heavyweights that get away with everything. If she still has her law license, can that at least be taken away?
A disbarment is better than nothing!

Retired
