CPS Strike Coming
- The Chicago Teachers Union said Monday that 95 percent of members who participated in a poll last week have agreed to authorize a strike this fall.
Some 90.6 percent of eligible teachers, clinicians and aides signed their names on petitions circulated last week at schools and CTU headquarters, according to the CTU.
We don't see nearly the amount of community support this time around though.
On the bright side, there will be a few extra bodies in the 2nd watch cars for a while.

Why don t they start checking residency on these teachers and there problems may be smaller probably could get rid of a third to a half of them if they enforce there own residency rule. Oh no it's the Chicago way don t ask and we won t tell!!!!
Fuck CTU. When they hitched their wagon to the blm nonsense last Fall on Michigan Av, that was it for me.
We all know and some have family in CTU. Remember that Laquan McDonald cover? This union is said to be run by only a few at the top. It's still all of your union and it's time to be accountable. You work 8 months and put in 2% to the pension. Go to work or find another job. Where's Pfleger now? This union bashes and teaches antipolice rhetoric. Hello charters
The teachers need more money, more respect, smaller class sizes and more days off in that order.
Lets see, the Chicago Public Schools get more money per "child" then possibly any other school district in the state - certainly more then any other district in Crook County. For the most part the graduation rate is abysmal. The teachers pay nothing into their pension. Certain teachers don't even have to live in the city. Waste is rampant. Our property taxes are going through the roof to support this failed institution, and the union is ran by a police hating communist with police hating underlings. Did I miss anything? Yet they want more money! This shit hole of a city is doomed!
As a side note, one "honor student" even told me "I only dare fo the food". Welcome to CPS!
I have no sympathy for the cps possible strike. I was a major advocate to their strike 4 years ago, however Lewis has now made the strike issue a racial issue, instead of it of it being management vs. labor.
Fuck the teachers and their strike. If the cops can fully pay into the pension, the teachers should be expected to do the same. And while the teachers strike, parents have to take off from work and lose pay in order to be home with the little darlings. And if the parents don't stay home then the little darlings roam the streets becoming unintended recipients of gun violence. Yeah, it's all about the children.
They pay 2% for thr pension, I pay 9%. Fuck them. Springfield stepped up, city hall stepped up, tax payers stepped up, and they complain about paying 2%? Fuck that
The week of Columbus day. Get your baby sitters ready!
fire them. cop haters. criminal lovers.
Spoiled, Greedy Teachers, always want more more more. Way overpaid already. 80k to work less than 9 months a year. Just another scam on the Taxpayers.
Fuck all teachers. When they have to live in my city yI will support them. Y dont they and cta have tp live in chicago. Love my cops and ffs
Well of course they are going to strike: having to show your name on this vote they had to.... or risk being taunted...
Keep in mind that what these teachers are complaining about is having to pay more into their pension. 7% more. Just like we do. They currently pay 2%.
They say that it was a contractual deal that was made in 1981 and it waived that 7% in lieu of an actual pay raise. So, today the CTU is saying that if they are forced to pay that 7% it would mean a pay cut for the teachers.
Well, most of those teachers that were employed in 1981 and agreed to that 7% pension deal are not working as CPS teachers today. So Karen Lewis and the CTU go pound sand and pony up that 7% because none of todays teachers would be taking a pay cut because of that 7% pension deal made in 1981.
It's sounds like many of you don't understand the reasons behind the strike. Check this out and learn a little something.
https://troylaraviere.net/2016/09/24/a-choice-for-chicagoans-back-teachers-or-continue-to-stiff-them/
Fuck 'em. Let them walk and then fire their asses and replace them with someone who actually wants to teach. This striking every year bullshit has got to stop.
if teachers are so essential. why are they not under no strike provisions?
I think new teachers have to live in the city. Older tenured teachers can live outside the city which I find is bullshit.
Are you teachers, teaching these kids shit about what they should know to get anywhere in life or college... Last time I checked-- sex education, how to vote like an asshole democrat, where is the line or link or Obama phones and laquan MacD getting dead 101 are all bullshit garbage... Sheeeeet, don't send your kid or dog to CPS
No sympathy here. Overpaid, under worked, anarchist supported group of non producing hacks. Strike all you want. Use the kids as pawns again. There is nothing honorable about what you do and what you have accomplished anymore. You and lewis can strike, hopefully till hell freezes over. Hope you lose your jobs and all get fired and replaced by cheaper more efficient grateful non race baiting, grateful teachers. Bottom line is, you hooked your wagon to a racially divisive group with a racist, arrogant union leader. Some of you cry that you really don't support her but you still have your hands and fists out demanding more. Time for you to go. Battle lines are drawn. Go Ahead and strike. You might be surprised about how many people will actually support you (Far less than you think) . Maybe you can call your blm people so you can riot together. Give all you unemployed people something to do. LOSERS.
The sooner the CPS goes bankrupt, the better for everyone with the first beneficiaries being the students. It is a non functioning government operation that launders tax money that is taken from the taxpayer, given to the CPS and then distributed to the union by direct payments, dues and back to politicians who appropriated the money in the first place to businesses they control and who have contracts with the CPS for goods and services. The students would benefit because the so called leaders responsible for public education and parents would be forced to find a better, efficient and resposible alternative that would actually deliver results; educating the children. I look forward to the day when the CPS enrollment plummets to something in th 100,000 range. It only continues to produce graduates who have no where to go. Rahm, you comments about the graduation rate are pure bullshit. We all know that when you lower standards and socially promote students to the next grade you are not educating them. You are so full of shit.
Everybody's pension contribution is going up ctu thinks their untouchable fuck them let them strike they're not educating the kids any way
Teachers I like at m kids school, the ones that really are good teachers and want to do their job, don't want the strike. I am sure you can guess the ones that do. They are the BLM coddlers. The something for nothing ones.
There will be no sympathy for them this time. Rahm will eat them for lunch.
Is it true there is a building some where in the city that certain teachers just sit and hang out all day because they are useless in the class room?
No sympathy here for the teachers, were all paying 9% into the pension and going up to 11%, teachers are paying 3% and they refuse to go to 7%. They're 3 times more of them taking from the pension system than the rest of us so time to pony up. No support for them from this police officer, oh and by the way men and women in blue...don't forget what their union let happen a few months ago at a rally they had with PAGE MAY and her saying FUCK THE POLICE.
Maybe, if CPS wasn't dumping money into their swimming pools, there would be more money to pay their teachers to live in the suburbs.
Case in point, $1M sunk into the swimming pool at Steinmetz High School, a school with dwindling enrollment (which costs 12 teachers their jobs after last year).
It seems CPS dumped $1M into renovating Steinmetz' pool in 2015 and the pool is only being used for the swim and water polo teams before and after school. Overall, CPS dumped $10M into the whole building using Tyler Lane Construction, a politically-connected company.
http://tylerlaneinc.com/project-profile/interior-renovations/ir-charles-r-steinmetz-high-school/
This work was done a handful of years after CPS spent over $30K just to get the Steinmetz pool in compliance (2011).
http://www.csc.cps.k12.il.us/purchasing/bid_history/15086.xml
No PE classes are being taught swimming or life-saving techniques in the pool. The students are meeting their swimming requirements by writing a paper on a health topic or swimming. The reasons Steinmetz administrators and PE teachers are giving for no swimming during PE classes are: PE teachers without their proper WSIs (Water Safer Instructor certificates), a huge failure rate in PE due to not passing swimming, illness, girls on their periods, students can't afford bathing suits and caps, and lazy PE teachers.
If you go to pg. 10 of this link, you'll find swimming isn't included in any course offerings for PE

Community support?
Do you think anyone is looking for it?
How much support do we receive as police officer from the community?
If you think the twitter-verse cares about us and health insurance you in for a world of disappointment.
Fuck the police and they cheered. Fuck you CTU. I will never support you again.
Wonderful, keep 'em stupid.
Now remember, CPS and BLM walk hand in hand. Remember that one rally of theirs, with one of the teachers being allowed to scream "F" the police on their bullhorn. All with small children present.
It was an open vote. It has never been done this way before. It is terrible. If you went against the grain and voted NO, all your peers would see. Imagine the hostility that would bring to your work place?! Why was the vote open for everyone to see?
Replace them just like they did they air traffic controllers. I'm sure there's a lot of teachers that need a job.
Wow. So much hate. Grow up with all the hating teachers stuff. This is the city's problem. They haven't paid their part of the pension in close to 20 years. Not teachers fault. Cops have pension issues too, due to the city and it's waste! That is the key to fixing the problem. Not cutting cost, but cutting waste. Teachers retire with a lower max percentage(75%) than police (80%)and have to work 5 years longer to get there. Police collect at 55 and teachers at 63. Teachers will gladly pay 9% for that same deal. The city refused that deal, not teachers. Hate the union and the blm stuff. Please get facts straight though. If the cps was run better, you could save a ton in private tuition. The teachers are good, the system is run by buffoons. So is the cpd apparently. Otherwise this blog would not be needed. Stay safe out there.
I've got fammily on both sides - here's a few things to think about:
Teachers gave up pay raises over the years in exchange for CPS to pick up a % of their pension payment. It wasn't a perk - it was a financial quid pro quo that saved CPS money because they then KICKED THE DAMN CAN down the road with pension "holidays" which meant CPS ended up not paying for either.
Hate the CTU leadership all you like but there are 30,000 of your friends, family and neighbors we're talking about, not just Karen Lewis. Look just at her you miss the point.
Any idiot who thinks teachers work posh hours I want to have what you're drinking. TALK to your friends/neighbors/families and see what the days are like. They are supposed to teach the same little darlings you deal with after school is out. And they don't backup.

Chicago doesn't spend more per child than anywhere else.
The teachers don't 'pay nothing' into their pension, though they certainly pay far less than the police do.
It helps if your argument contain facts, not hyperbole. And, yes, she's a commie police-hater, or a reasonable facsimile thereof.
http://rebootillinois.com/2015/09/28/top-25-school-districts-in-illinois-spending-the-most-and-least-per-student/
Rahm , hire some retired coppers to investigate residency , teachers , principals live outside the city in oak lawn , Palos Heights , Orland Park . Put the pressure on , like you do with Police And Firefighters
Fuck CTU and all this bullshit that we need to support them because some are wives or daughters. I will support an individual teacher who is also Blue Family, but fuck Karen Lewis and the CTU!!!!
Stats just out another year Cps is losing students .. chicago the dying city over taxed , shit education and crime. The un fertile grounds scream DETROIT
Fire the cheap bastards. They don't even want to pay for their own pensions. Besides, they are indoctrinating our kids into marxist, commie thought and don't even teach the three "R's" anymore.
Won't happen until after the Presidental election. Don't piss off the Democratic voters.
Got to hand it to Karen Lewis she sure is a huge pain in tiny dancers ass! She has a bigger set of balls then Dean Angelo.
I need the Chicago Police Dept., Chicago Fire Dept., & Sts. & San. for snow removal/garbage pickup. I have no need of the Chicago. Public Schools !! Close all them mother fuckers 50 % of my property tax bill !!!!
Only 86 freshman and waste of space Chicago state university but yet we keep pumping millions in tax dollars in this place:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-chicago-state-university-enrollment-future-met-20160927-story.html
Great money management rahm correct? Pay the police pensions, hire more police close this place plenty of money available then!

80 percent? Is this new? Must have missed that. Oh, and 2 percent to work 8 months a year with weekends and holidays off . Ill take that. All the while most of the kids can't even pass a grade appropriate test. GTFOH

declare the entire public school system bankrupt as there is no hope of saving it. The product that they turn out is pretty abysmal anyway.

The CPS spends almost 12 grand per student, just about the national average. Teachers are among the top paid for large urban areas. The real question is why do we have so many incompetent teachers still working in the system.
424am> cta is funded by the federal government, thats why there is no residency.I live in Chesterton Indiana, good schools no Chicago BS!
Let them strike, why are we forced to fund this corrupt system? we don't need the schools close them down, make parents pay taxpayers are tired of paying! Trump wants to stop this, and if a school is shit like many here the kids go elsewhere where taxpayers would pay a much less amount saving us our money! The pensions make them pay 12%, to many years of non-payment Reagan fired all traffic controllers fire them all and hire new, they don't want to pay goodbye failures! they support criminal disruptive organizations like black lies matter I will never support them! Turn formerly "fat karen" over she is done!
CPS is not stupid...they plan this around a presidential election. Last time they held a strike it was during Obama's reelection. The democrats/politicians will give in to strike demands to keep negative news like this out of the national story.
I would love to see all the Teachers get fired, just like President Reagan Fired all the Air Traffic Controllers, who went on strike in the 1980's!
These teachers have a great salary and benefits that are better than Police Officers and we risk our lives everyday we put on the blue uniform [a.k.a. target for BLM].
So, Teachers go fuck yourselves!
By the way, I gave a teacher a mover today just for showing me her I.D. while having a "Black Lives Matter" bumper sticker on her car!
In 1981 the City promised police officers health care until Medicare sets in. We live in 2016 not 1981.
Forget the nonsense with residency and Chicago teachers.
They have a former CPD Sgt. Who worked in IAD as the CPS inspector general.
The IG even wrote memos over CPS residency, so Claypool gives waivers to new employees so they can get CPS
job while still residing outside of city. Claiming they were best qualified applicants for jobs.
Only us fools working for city are living with residency.
cannot wait to retire......cya city adiĆ³s illinois
Fuck those God-damned chicongo troskyite union societal wreckers!!!
I'm pissed why are they showing a documentary about Chief Keef and making my daughter sit through this. He is no role model. The school in question is Chicago High School to Agricultural Sciences. I'm fed up with CPS
I hope the City just hires a bunch of replacements. There is NO money, just got downgraded further into "junk" status this morning. They were offered a great deal that their socialist activist 'leader' refused. If I'm not mistaken it was 18 percent. EIGHTEEN. Screw em.
They are thieves.
Fuck the CTU. They better not dare ask for our support. After the shit they pulled with BLM during McDonald fallout I will never support them assholes. I have friends who are teachers but I still won't help them in any way. Besides they should pay their fair share into their pension anyways.
Who cares.
75% of them preach BLM inspired tactics to the kids and promote hate, disrespect and selfishness.
I have no sympathy for CPS on a whole. They are the 1 bad apple spoils the whole basket.
But that ballsy straw hat lady has chops.
Anything that irks Weasel WRahm is always a plus.
I hope the teachers have saved enough cash to weather a strike. While on strike are they required to sign up for Obama care? Does Uncle Sam still have any of that surplus 'Jimmy Carter' cheese that can be distributed to the CPS food bank? This is gonna be interesting.
someone above asks why do we have so many incompetent teachers? It is called tenure friend. Once you get it firing inept and incompetent teachers is virtually impossible.
"The IG even wrote memos over CPS residency, so Claypool gives waivers to new employees so they can get CPS
job while still residing outside of city. Claiming they were best qualified applicants for jobs."
New hires get 6 months to move to Chicago after being hired, then, they may apply for another 6-month waiver.
Many CTU members are 'grandfathered-in' with the old CPS Residency Policy and they can live anywhere they please if they were hired before November 20, 1996? And, many teachers can get a '3-yr. renewable' residency waiver after being hired as non-Chicago residents to work in a 'need' subject area?
Does Lewis even know the CPS Residency Policy lists the following subject areas as a need: Special Education Teachers, Mathematics Teachers, Science Teachers, Librarians, Guidance Counselors, School Nurses, Reading Teachers, Bilingual Teachers, Physical Education Teachers, School Psychologists, Speech Pathologists, ROTC, Sign Language Interpreters, Occupational & Physical Therapists, Health Service Nurses, World Language (Exclusively: Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Latin, Farsi) and those areas related to the STEM educational curriculum?
The problem is, on average, there's 1-2 teachers per school violating the residency policy and the CPS OIG does nothing about them, except complain about a manpower shortage in investigating those in violation.
Another money drainer for CPS is allowing schools to have 2-3 asst. principals when according to CPS policy, these schools should have only one asst. principal.
9:51am....think you should do some fact checking of your own, CPD maxes out at 75% not 80%.
Fuck em. Let the BLM loving CTU go on strike. The minute they do - fire the lot of them. Plenty of teachers in the pipeline to take their spots.
Why such hate for teachers? Hate the politicians and alderman, the mayor too, but teachers? What's up with that? United we stand, divided we fall. Family first, when that malfunctions, the schools pick up, maybe a child is saved, but when the schools fail, guess where they land? Yes, in the arms of law enforcement. You better pray school succeed or the violence will continue.
Lord knows the community leaders have failed, churchs are not providing enough, certainly bad money managers, and if the schools fail, CPD will have to step up & wage war in a never ending battle.
When they start striking, start firing them starting from the top. As a taxpayer and parent, I demand they are held to a standard as well

Same question should be asked from teachers. Why suck hate for police? We know what Karen Lewis and the likes think of the police. Hate is a two way street.

Sorry I did. Police 75% teacher 70%. My statement still holds true. I missed by 5% but the point is still very relevant.
Fire all of them , hire kids right out of college for less pay
teachers refuse to pay into their pensions
fire all of them
Why are cps teachers , administrators allowed to live outside the city
doesnt rahm think there are qualified citizens in chicago
"Why are cps teachers , administrators allowed to live outside the city

Many administrators who live outside Chicago are grandfathered-in with the old residency policy and you have to live with that. The problem is CPS Talent (?) aka HR fell asleep at their desks and have allowed (13) assistant principals to live outside of Chicago on residency waivers. Hell, they even have allowed security guards to get residency waivers. HTF does that happen?
The Sun-Times was given the residency waiver list in 2015 and they've held back on writing a report on it.

I got a better idea. For the Most part...everyone that posts on these topics carries a ticket book.
Start Checking Vehicles in the Chicago Public Schools Employee Only Parking Lots for city stickers.
If it doesn't have one....and it isn't a rental, WRITE IT. I presume you guys and gals in Blue get info when you run a plate that everything comes back. Do you get a flag if the vehicle is Owned by a City Employee?
80 percent? Is this new? Must have missed that. Oh, and 2 percent to work 8 months a year with weekends and holidays off . Ill take that. All the while most of the kids can't even pass a grade appropriate test. GTFOH
----
See above correction. Teachers 70%, CPD 75%. Plus I like the way you stated, "I'll take that." But you didn't, you took the CPD test and possibly made it or you're a troll. So, you didn't take that because you chose to work somewhere not as a teacher, regardless your reasons. Now, you expect people to kiss your ass because you work shitty hours (I get this from your tone and do not believe all cops hold your opinion). Teachers don't care if cops support them or not. But as city workers, we all do jobs that essentially private sector and corporate types did not want. I know plenty of cops and teachers who have had people tell them, " boy I don't know how you do it, I wouldn't want your job." Then, in the next breath, turn around and mother fuck us for our pensions. So, like it or not, we deal with and serve the same clientele. Take your test scores and shove them up your ass! You see on a daily basis where these kids live and who raises them. You try and learn in that environment. Grow the fuck up. BTW, if you are the police, do stay safe out there.

You are probably one of the first to complain about Inspectors hitting the station lots for that or other infractions. Yet, here you are.
How about no on this asinine idea.

Nope. I don't complain about Inspectors because I've never forgotten to do something that might get their attention focused on me.
It's not a hard concept. Come to work ready to work, dressed correctly for work and even if I only write 75 parkers, I was correctly attired at morning roll call.
