Weekend Gets Worse
Via HeyJackass.com, 8 dead and 41 maimed as of earlier tonight.
- A man was shot and critically injured Saturday night following a dispute just outside Millennium Park, authorities and witnesses said.
A 54-year-old man was shot in the head about 7:35 p.m. at the northeast corner of Michigan Avenue and Monroe Drive after a dispute with a man who fled on a bicycle, authorities said. The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
Assorted news reports have him listed as "brain dead" and "non responsive." Another one laid at the feet of Rahm's criminal mismanagement of the Department, allowing manpower to dwindle to unsafe levels, not to mention a chronic mismanagement of available manpower in one of most visible and vibrant sections of the city, dependent in no small measure on tourist dollars and residents looking for a night out.

Police protection should be focused on tourist areas and the neighborhoods that pay for it. You will find cooperative witness and people who will sign reports.

Do you think that hiring more law enforcement would of been cheaper Rahm? You have money for flower pots in the middle of the streets, help build casinos, and private stadiums but not enough to hire police? 500 isn't going to do anything you need to be like NY and hire 2,000 or more of the bat..

People are leaving...correction, tax paying citizens are leaving. The picture of the non tax paying diversity hanging off the back of a moving truck comes to mind.

To coppers, civilians, and anyone else, carry a gun at all times. If you don't have a combat shotgun or an AR-15 type rifle, go and buy one. It's an investment for you and your loved ones. It's not if the shit is going to hit the fan, it's when, that's the question. When I leave town, I take an AR-15, two pistoles and enough ammo for both rifle and handguns. I have water for five days, and food for three to four days. These items do not take up to much space and are just extra insurance when traveling. Its like having a spare tire, that's how I view the above mentioned items. You must practice with all your weapons at home and on the range. Call me crazy but there's a lot of others thinking the same way. When I and my partner go to work we carry extra ammo and water just in case we are stuck on the street or involved in a timely incident. Think and be prepared, take self defense to another level.

As a person who has been to New York you see great police presence in Times Square, Financial District, and Central Park. In Chicago, you have equivalent of the Mag Mile, Downtown, and Millennium Park all major tourist destinations that have none ZERO Chicago Police presence.

If you're ever in New York in the tourist areas like Times Square, there isn't a direction you can look without seeing a police officer. Just being visible works. Here in Chicago, you can't find a police officer anywhere downtown or the Mag Mile.

These are my numbers, worked up from HJ's stats as of a few hours ago and using HJ's formula.
Cost of a homicide related autopsy: $800.
Transport via CFD ambulance: $1,000 (only applies to 80% of victims, others either self-transport or get "dropped off", which may not involve the car coming to a complete stop.)
Average ER and hospital expenses: $50,000
Expense breakdown as of a few hours ago:
3200 wounded, ER and hospital $ = $160,000,000
2560 CFD/EMS transportation runs = $2,560,000
556 homicide or DI related autopsies =$454,880
Grand Total as of a few hours ago:$163,014,880
This figure only covers the immediate costs: little details such as hospice care, physical therapy/rehabilitation or any long-term aftercare aren't included. This also ONLY includes the MEDICAL costs. This doesn't cover response costs for Fire or EMS. This doesn't include the cost of the initial PD response or the investigations, and it doesn't include the court costs, or the IDOC costs of incarceration, parole or probation.
Is it true that Pagan has 39 prior arrests? My opinion? He seems to be a pretty good indictment of the Cook County criminal justice system, chief judge Timothy Evans presiding. This tattooed piece of dog shit should not be on the street. I would like to see the Reader (since they are the only paper in Chicago capable of doing so) examine this assholes criminal history and name the Judges who miscarried justice 39 times before a citizen ended up dead.
