And Another Great Move

Monday, the Department allowed everyone in Day Off Groups 62 and 63 to enjoy their regularly scheduled day. But the didn't tell them until mid-day Sunday. First and Second Watches worked 12-hour days, their 3rd in a row. Third Watch came in at 1230 with no assignment at all, and no cars to use since the other watches were on extended tours.

This resulted in much confusions. And ridicule. Because the Department brass burned through millions of dollars for two non-clinching games that probably could have been handled by Tactical Teams.

Monday (off day for the teams), the Department decided to cancel everyone's day off for Tuesday in case the Cubs lose and Wrigleyville turns ugly with drunken idiots.

An actually intelligent decision.

So of course, they rescinded it.

This came out about six-hours ago, necessitating thousands of phone calls by watch personnel to make sure that everyone in Day Off Group 63 and 64 stayed home while other coppers work their 8th straight day, for some, their 5th 12-hour day in a row.

If the Cubs lose, available manpower has been cut by about 33%. And if Wrigleyville is full of disappointed drunks.....

UPDATE: Criticizing the stupid decisions and half-assed planning of the incompetent and over-promoted Command Staff is not "whining" as so many comments have been alleging. It's legitimate (and constructive) criticism. It should also be a wake up call to any bean counter reading. Trust us - we've turned in a yellow slip for every single day and we're going to be smiling on 01 December. But when Rahm and Special Ed are whining about budgets and pension payments and training funds and everything else, remember where the money went.

So the idiot commander from 025 put his 3rd watch out on foot posts (we got dropped off in a streets & sans van) on North AV from Cicero to Austin. This POS then gets on the radio later in the night and tells the dispatcher that she had North AV foot posts out there after she read off some jobs pending. He also wanted us to take the bus to our posts. Have you no shame Tony? Your 3rd watch was out on Waveland for 3 straight days. I can't wait for the next time him and his punk LT KS come down to roll call and ask for us to pick up the activity. You sir, have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you are only out for yourself and could care less about the troops. You can take your activity and shove it up your ass sir! Maybe all those young impressionable guys on 1st watch will pick up the 3rd watch slack for you, because 3rd watch is done.

World series aside, I've been saying this for a while. Until more police are hired and successfully trained, hire back coppers to voluntary employment on rdo in district to up power cars and up presence. Presence Prevents Problems. You just need the "presence" in the right place. Half the crowd at Clark and Addison were police clogging up the works.

Did Major League baseball say they would pay for ALL of it? Initially it was said that Major League Baseball would pay, so in typical Chicago Political incompetence, the City spent other peoples' money recklessly. However, did that pay-out cover days when there was no game, like Monday? Before when there was Investigative Reporting, instead of Sneed being spoon fed from City Hall, or stealing stories from SCC, these questions would be answered. But today, nobody cares. The Mayor ignores the death toll for the weekend. Somebody was shot Monday night in front of Truman College on Wilson Ave. That is the second person shot adjacent to that campus in one week. The last one shot last Wednesday was shot dead. Stay Fetal, Stay Fetal. Baby"G"

So HQ decides to send out a admin message at 1800 hours saying rdo's not canceled for 01 November. Great. Problem is midnights start at 2000 hours. Everyone shows up and gets choice: stay or go. Well in my district 19 of 20 stayed for 18 hours of pay. Plans already ruined for time with kids on Halloween. Very costly mistake tax payers have to pay for. But does show ineptitude and what clout gets you. Well done HQ! NOW PAY ME 18 HOURS

10/31/2016 09:25:00 PM

Certain 3rd watch personnel got screwed those three days. Some districts had posts all three days for 12 hours a day. While others sat on buses, vans, and in the community room in 19 doing shit. Should of had rotations. Also no more class by coppers anymore. Sitting on a bus all day within an eye shot of another officer working a corner for 12 hours and you can't walk up and tell the guy to take a break I'll cover your post.

Got us goin in circles. My N side district called me yesterday, (as I was tiredly trick or treating with the kids) and said we all have to come in and that days off are cancelled again and we are on 12hrs (voicemail of course, did NOT answer). Then they called an hour later and said that oh wait, days off are not cancelled but if you wanna come in to work you have the option, and then they called back again and said don't come in days off are not cancelled. Wtf. Who is running this place, Willy Wonka? I know it's not the districts fault at all, the masters at be are to blame. And to 6:06am, it's called duty availability. They pay us this extra payment multiple times a year to be able to have this happen now and again. Not supposed to be this clusterfked but. In the event of disasters, large events, etc. Hey at least we'll have a good Christmas right. $$$

But lack the simple principles of basic patrol duty.

Non related but important. Membership needs to very carefully consider health insurance choices. BCBS ppo is now on two tier system. All Advocate hospitals are tier two which will cause ppo users to pay 25 %. Also most doctors are now tier two which is the 25% copay. The doctor can be affiliated with a tier one hospitals but does contract at tier one rate. Dean really screwed over membership with this contract. Only most people don't realize it yet and might not realize it until it's too late. Also prescription program has many changes. If you try to get a list of tier 1 and tier two hospitals. Fop won't provide it and doesn't have it. Dean doesn't want membership to see the truth. Lurie children's hospital is tier 2. The only children hospital is Larrabida on South side. No north side children's hospitals at all. The only decent tier one hospitals that I could find was loyola. Way to look out FOP. Remember health care was an agreed to term not detail done through arbitration.

A prime example is for anyone in d.o.g. 64. I was notified at different times yesterday that i was first.. not working.. then working... then not working again after having to call 2 hours prior to when i would start. And today, as of 2:40 pm nobody knows for sure if i have to show up by 9:pm because they still do not know if they are cancelling the days off for tomorrow. All this after working 4 12 hour days in a row. This pretty much ruins both rdos. It is not whining to expect them to give you adequate notice and to just know what they are doing. Despite what some people think, this is just a job. My family and personal life comes first so yea, I have a right to not be happy with the complete lack of component leadership.

(OT) Talk about a completely backwards city, led by a mayor with no clue and the 50 idiots! They want a street sign honorary for a baseball player:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-javy-baez-honorary-street-humboldt-park-met-20161101-story.html

This baseball player does not deserve a sign, another in the many wasted nothing to do alderman ideas! First question is this baseball player even a citizen? Secondly these same alderman are giddy like little girls removing Trumps street sign, a man who called it correctly about all the violent crime in Chicago, yet they still took huge amounts of money no doubt a payoff in so called campaign contributions! Trump talked about the violence here alderman look over here 5 shot already just in the morning today:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/-chicago-shootings-violence-20161101-story.html

Alderman with so much extra time from that $116,000++++ job part-time how about maybe putting your empty heads together and give the shooting victims grave markers, you could list your names as sponsoring it. Oh you say that is bad, yes it is all that blood covering your decisions that are extremely poor daily!

I have a friend who is high up in the Trump organization don't think for 1 minute Trump forgets this disparaging his name, the forensic audit run by the new justice dept. will be done quickly are your books in order? "hi ho hi ho its off to jail all of you go!"

025 3rd Watch

The commander decided to use everyone on 3rd watch for foot patrols. Good going in taking morale down the toilet. It is also nice to see the house mouses being taken care of. Other districts had their officers work for a few hours and then they were cut loose.

"Maybe" you should have the "cojones" to tell him this in his face. 3rd watch in 025 is world famous to write shit famously anonymously on walls [bathroom or blog]. Stand united and tell him this ----or you could just take your posts and keep on writing on walls.

SCC,
I would like you to consider posting this as a main page post, as opposed to it being overlooked in the comments section.
The entire handling of the World Series "situation" went well beyond incompetence and awful leadership. The cancelling of RDOs for 01 Nov, and then the rescinding of the cancellation 6 hours later was inane at best. People cancelled scheduled appointments, arranged for child care that they then had to cancel, etc.. This was ignorant and insulting. the following was even worse. Issuing an edict that cancellation of RDOs on 02 Nov was "contingent" on the outcome of game 6 is an incomplete, insidious order. It should have been clearly outlined: Cubs win, days off cancelled. Cubs lose, days off not cancelled. What were they waiting for? The score of the game? The decision obviously was already made. The decision not to inform the troops was a conscious and deliberate ass fucking. This was either special Ed saying fuck you or Rahm saying fuck you. Doesn't matter either way, they left people hanging and treated the entire department, not wearing a gold star, like pieces of shit.
I suggest a "fuck you" back to those behind this clusterfuck. One day, for one day please unite and send a message. Friday, 04 Nov nobody on this department write a single ticket, ISR, or do anything other than answer their jobs and fulfill their oath to protect the people of this city. Will it hurt the city, probably not, but it will let them know that we realize we were treated like shit and used, and that we can respond. I know there are some officers out there addicted to write tickets, like a crackhead is addicted. And others who just "have to" make an arrest. Try to get over it and unite with your brothers and sisters and tell whoever made the decision to abuse us to go fuck themselves.
We will continue to be treated like shit if we continue to accept it.

During the democratic convention in 1968 some of us worked 12 hour shifts in the districts with no days off for 2 straight weeks. We started at midnight and worked until noon. The day watch worked from noon until midnight.

There was no paid overtime and if I remember correctly we might have gotten 4 hours comp time each day. Plus, it was hot and there were no air-conditioned cars at that time.

At least you guys are getting paid and I don't begrudge you for it.

These two and Baio are perfect examples of sycophants who collected enough papers at the study groups, shined enough shoes and bought enough lunches to ingratiate themselves with the people in charge. Completely incompetent but promoted anyway. I know all three.

I wish the CPD would do that. None of the 500 killed would be anyone we want living in this city anyway. The only ones affected would be the ER staff -and if the police have been able to work non-stop during the world series and for this parade, they will survive too. Let the ghetto wipe itself out. They don't have the balls to come into beats filled with CPD families, who would summarily execute them if they tried anything stupid.

Great job Irish.
