So it's been discussed in numerous comment sections - who's paying for the overtime?
One rumor is that MLB is footing the bill. We'd ask, "Why? It isn't their problem."
Another has Homeland Security chipping in due to unpublished "concerns." This would seem more likely given the way the Department is throwing around overtime on non-clinching days and travel days.
Some others speculate that the increased tax revenues from hosting a World Series are equal to the outlays. We'd love to see that accounting process.
Most people figure that if the check clears, what does it matter?

I keep commenting that the city is paying. I checked again today with elected officials. The MLB is NOT picking up the tab. As I said this afternoon to officers clustered underneath the El tracks, "Cha Ching. Cha Ching."

*Rumor has it* that Hillary called Rahm and she promised that if she's elected that she'd make sure that the Feds pick up for all the overtime costs involved with the Cubs being in the World Series.
The She-Beast explained to Tiny Dancer that it's the least she could do, being a 'life-long Cubs Fan' (LOL) and all, and it was in the best interest of National Security.

I don't understand the question. No one is paying for this. The city didn't go to MLB or the CUBS before the World Series and say, 'Oh, by the way, if you go to the playoffs and World Series, it will cost you this much." The CUBS are NOT responsible for the activities of citizens on the streets outside of Wrigley field and in other places around the city. The police are responsible for the protection and preservation of life and property. A few years ago the city imposed a pretty hefty tax on event tickets to pay for police and traffic. I guarantee you, most of this money is NOT going to pay for theses services at these events, but going into the black hole of the general fund. Further, a functional city government would plan for unexpected events like winning a Stanly Cup or World Series, or maybe a visit by the Pope, and have a contingency fund set aside for just such events. Of course, that is a functional city government, not a corruptbunch of crooks.
Perhaps the media can do their job ask the city or aldermen who is paying and let the tax payers know.

Whoever pays for it is getting the money from taxpayers, who are effectively footing the bill so Ricketts can sell $10 Budweisers to 80,000 drunk 20-year olds congregating on the remains of a formerly historic ballpark.

You had no choice to take all money, unless you had been on furlough earlier in the period. All hours worked over 171 hrs in a period are paid out. Learn your contract.... SMH

They apparently think they're responsible for the activities of citizens on the public sidewalks though. Event staff, not police, shooing people off the public sidewalk.

I saw Car 41 in action today at Cubs parade.
He's clearly a man who's very impressed with himself.
BS on the above poster about the IAD Sgt and DOJ. Stop making shit up.
A good portion is federal money because of the SEAR designation for all World Series games. It's Homeland Security money.
