Rental Cars?

What happened to the 400 cars Dean negotiated?
  • Area north will be using enterprise Rent-A-Car. They are taking the fusions for the watch. How is that going to work driving a rental car with no lights or sirens or government plates on the west side. Wasn't a fusion shot at a couple months ago? The gang bangers didn't think it was the police driving because the car didn't have a front plate. The city can't buy new cars but how much is it going to cost for a short lease/ long rental?
Are these cars for the D-unit? Bosses? Teams? The watch?

No sirens or lightbars or wigwags? No cages? No GPS?

No :::gasp::: cameras????

Same in Area 2. They pulled all crown vics and sent them to patrol in exchange for Enterprise RAC. Let's see, the VC. Lieutenant took the suburban, the XO scooped up the Charger and the Dodge Journeys replaced the Crown Vic's. No lights, no sirens, no M plates. Also, no "R" service. Heard in 015 that the supervisors cars were going to be turned over to the watch to alleviate the shortage of cars. Interesting that there really isn't a shortage, just that the millenials need a new car with a pdt everyday and can't be bothered with a crown vic or tahoe. These bed wetters don't even know what a pool car is. No word on what cars the supervisors will be getting. SCC - your wigwags remark gave me a chuckle, haven't heard that term in years. Remember the barely audible sirens on the tact cars, which also was equipped with only wigwags? How more accidents didn't occur with only front flashing headlights as a visual warning could only be due to St. Jude.
Seriously, the rentals should go to administrative riff raff like "Cmdr" Robinson or Weezee or the numerous gold stars who don't do policework. They could always buy a "kojak light" from Gall's on their own dime if they be's in a hurry.

The Fusions are dangerous, period.

My partner and I had an incident driving down the street where the "community" mistook us for rivals- could have been really bad. And our car had the new MP.plates. I know of a handful of incidents where coppers were almost involved in some reeeeal hairy situations due to those stupid fusions.
Most of these incidents I am aware of I nvolve the "community" trying to protect its block from rivals, and seeing an unknown car that doesn't look like a police car, creeping up slowly and stopping next to a group of people on the corner is a recipe for disaster.

That's what happens when you put people who have never been the police in charge of things like this.

How about the streets and sans trucks with Michigan plates (I know not police but ridiculous) enterprise is ripping the city off who is getting the kickbacks? Enterprise has had an open contract with iad for years iAd (coppers/agents better pay and pension scale) can take different cars daily if they desire. Maybe coppers can play "Starsky and Hutch" put a red or blue light on the roof have the passenger hang out the window make siren noises. What's going to happen if a copper is calling for help and as we protect blue race to a call and have an accident or as in other posts copper gets shot at or God forbidden killed or injured? Rahm and his assholes have put us further in the hole and President Trump is acting on this sanctuary cities bullshit today Chicago will lose minimum of 1.5 Billion that's a lot so cash as rahm uses scare taxpayers money to protect the illegal invaders criminals he is bankrupting this city, people are being shot and murdered everyday rahm and his crew is the disease and President Trump is the cure, the medicine will be strong but policing will be better as the swamp is finally drained God bless this city and police everywhere!!

So less and less tasers on the street. This organization has to be the most poorly run department in the country. We are supposed to implement the DOJ recommendations but we can't even get enough cars or equipment repair when needed. Can't wait for the first police shooting when there is no video or audio because of the borrowed car that is being used and when questioned why they didn't take him the answer is because we don't have enough operational ones at this time. For many years the CPD was in violation of federal laws regarding emergency equipment on unmarked cars, regarding strobe light placement and siren de ibels, it took a guy at Fleet who is an expert on vehicles and a Sergeant from the Special Vehicle Team who was in charge of the Command Vans and Swat vehicles to bring the cars up to standards, now that he us retired they are slipping back. Many years back they used unmarked rental cars with stick on placards with no lights or sirens.

The Area was always short decent cars, the rental/lease are a good thing...if you can get the keys to either one.
I'm surprised A/C didn't resort to Uber yet.

A lease vehicle is short term obligation or a long term income source.
For someone to authorize those leases, it wasn't in the interest for the Det.

And you guys are a number of vehicles as agreed to in the contract.

Page 143 says, and I quote: "The city has represented to the lodge it's intention to purchase 400 vehicles for the police department before the close of 2014 and has advised the lodge of its intention to purchase, on average, 200 patrol division vehicles each year during the term of this agreement, beginning in 2015. During the first quarter of each calendar year beginning in 2015, the committee shall meet in the city she'll share with the lodge appointed committee members it's progress in attaining this goal. In any year where the city does not reach this goal, upon request the city appointed members shall meet with the union appointed members to discuss the reason(s) for not attaining the goal".

Key word here: "Intention". The city actually "intended" to buy a lot more than 400 cars. Contract states a total of 1000 vehicles. How many did they actually buy? And of those, how many actually made it to patrol and units that actually need them as opposed to Bossholes and the special children.

And I'm curious… Did the lodge and the city meet during the first quarter of 2015 or 2016 to discuss the "progress in attaining this goal"? Have they yet or will they meet for 2017?

I was in utter amazement when this was proposed at all the fucking morons jumping all over it as a reason to vote yes for the contract. I wonder what it will be this time that they dangle over your head to make you idiots bite. None of this would've been an issue had you entitled assholes listened to the old timers and downed your vehicles for every little fucking thing that made it unsafe to drive.

The D unit lost cars to ET's because the department took their cars for VRI, then the D unit lost more cars for summer mobile and were promised their return after summer. Summer ended and we never got our cars back, now they are taking are remaining crown Vic's and Chevy impalas. This is beyond fucking ridiculous!!! You have 5 detectives in a district and 2 cars to use for call outs, investigations, court, etc... This department / city is a joke

Remember in the late 80's. Leroy Martin had all the sgts driving unmarked corwn vics with a light bar slapped on top. We called them Leroy Limos.

They were box Chevys. They went to the tact teams after the gumballs were taken off.

First poster is right, we had Crown Vics in the late 80s. Box Chevys landed about 90-91 if memory serves me correctly. Them bastards were awesome after driving the CVs. LT1 that was used in Vettes, ass end would break loose with a hearty chip from 1-2 and 2-3. 12 bolt posi with a respectable 3.42 gear got the job done. And flip over that air cleaner lid to make it sound a little more gnarly. Heavy Duty EVERYTHING mad those cars a lot of fun to drive. Hell, I'd buy one restored to those specs today for a daily driver. The BCP aptly described the rear end of that car "dancing down the street" as the tires hunted for traction. Ahhh, good times.

WHOOO!

We would buy a decent '88-'90 9c1 one in a heartbeat.
A '94-'96 even faster still.

The 1990 9c1 Caprice was KING...
First year of "Throttle-Body Injection"
in the 350 Police Package.

This car was more about ruggedness than anything.
If you're looking for top end, look elsewhere,
But it did pack a considerable punch out of the hole
with the 3.42 gear-set and accelerated hard to 100mph
or so with a top end of 120 to 125 or so.

Sufficient for a single exhaust municipal package.
Very compliant steering box which made those brutes
pretty agile with a tight turn radius.

Essentially a heavier gauge Chevy body on a
GMC 1500 frame and a truck 350 which is why
those cars could take such a beating and still run.

The only cars tougher and stronger were the
Plymouths and Dodges of the 60's.

The best cars CPD never had were the '94-'96
Caprices with detuned 5.7 liter (350 c.i.)
Corvette engines and iron heads
rated at 260hp. (more like 275)

(one of our elder subject matter experts emeriti
said there was no way in hell the city was going
to purchase those fire-breathing monsters so they
bought a shit ton of the 255 c.i. 200 hp taxicabs)

CTA Special had those cars and it was a hoot...
"Why ya need a rocket to run down a bus?"

Top end was drag limited but given enough road
they could go over 140. A CHP unit ran out to
an indicated 158.

"Lincoln 7xx?
Bus alarm standing southbound, 125000 South Michigan."

"Squad... Nobody in 005 for that? We're just leaving
the Kraft Building..."

"Lincoln 7xx, it's yours, no cars in 005 available."

Well... It was almost midnight on a week-night so
away on the Ryan we went.

136 with a light-bar and it had plenty more.
Of course the bus was gone...

Good Times.

Hold on...
Mistuh Bus Driver just flashed his lights.

>SCREEEEE!<
