The Reader Flubs It
Unless it's Joravsky writing about Rahm and Shortshanks shenanigans, this free paper is just birdcage liner. They purport to have read the entire DOJ report, which we did over the course of two days, and they found 40 "shocking things" that their low-info readers can regurgitate into talking points. Look at this first one
- 1 - In the recorded use-of-force incidents for which race was indicated between January 2011 and April 2016, 76 percent of the cases involved black citizens. African-Americans were the subject of 80 percent of cops' firearm use and 81 percent of their Taser use.
Golly, that's horrible! In a city that's 33% black, 30% white, 30% Latino and 7% other, then the police should use force against 33% blacks, 30% whites, 30% Latinos and 7% other.
Except there's this:
Golly, golly. It seems that blacks made up 76% of crime victims. And seeing as how something like 99% of those victims were shot in their own neighborhoods where the racial make-up is pretty homogeneous across the board (most segregated city you know), it would seem that nearly 80% of the actual offenders were likely.....black.
That isn't racist - that's statistics. And that is exactly the flaw in the entire report. It doesn't take into consideration the number of crimes committed by a certain group. Or that in certain neighborhoods, stopping 30% white people would take approximately 12 years hassling pfather pfleger 24/7/365....before and after Mass.

None of this matters until the situations behind the crimes are taken care of. As cops I understand what your job is, arrest, detain and in rare situations, take someone out. Understood. But if we as a country continue to think welfare, free housing and paying off a light bill contributes to this you are sadly mistaken. Just as no one thinks all cops are bad, with the obvious exception of the ruthless killers on the streets, the cycle is this. Fathers not home or if they are, not working. The manufacturing industry has been replaced by tech gigs. Private companies instead of bringing even the lowest wage paying IT gigs home outsource everything so you need advanced degrees just to work. The lower wage jobs are taken by illegals, fast food, food processing plants, candy factories. And last but not least almost every article about CPS includes the statement that the kids are poor. I never heard that growing up. Never. We attended class in those awful trailers but we never heard the word poor. Not looking to play the victim card but the cycle is like a stew. I am all for jail time but for several situations, if you allow felony DUI offenders to go home or get probation for example, shoplifters should get the same or less. Pay a fine, community service, if not, we come after you. My rant.
IG now to investigate Fenner the cheater, for helping her son who was stopped with weed and a suspended DL, I still think, if true, the officers who gave her son a break are pussies. A DSS and LT had to be involved, if that punk was giving a play because who his mama is fucking I hope that all get suspended.

Let's remember that blacks are also responsible for the actual majority of violence against white victims and a high percentage of Hispanic victims. It is a false narrative to call it "black on black" violence. It is just violence perpetrated at a highly disproportionate rate by blacks. This isn't racist to state irrefutable facts.
When I talked to the mutts on the street they would laugh at me when I always asked them why they didn't get a J O B. They make more money slinging dope or corner security than working at Mickey D's! They could supplement their cash income with SSI, Link etc... Some of the parents are still getting government checks for their adult children, so they don't want the children to work, because they would have to give up one of their monthly checks! That's the real local economy. Chicago values...

Why not write a letter to the editor rather than just throwing the paper away. They would print a well-written letter that didn't get too angry. It's worth getting some sense into the comments section too.
It's also worth considering how even a well-meaning focus on communities with more crime is likely to impose some burdens on people who aren't violent and may be mostly law-abiding. Many of us made small slip-ups when we were young. I'm definitely not saying anyone is racist. Just that inevitably, a tighter policy may be experienced as oppressive, and it's worth understanding that even as you point out that a tighter policy in some neighborhoods is the only way to get those neighborhoods under control.
I'm sure many will roll their eyes at my note. We live in a country where neither side spends much time trying to recognize the partial truths on both sides. But maybe a few of you will recognize what I'm trying to say. And some of the people looking at the Reader would start to understand the police dilemma if someone presented it to them.

Don't disagree with what was said, but to solve a problem you first need to correctly identify it. What you list are symptoms, not causes. The cause goes back to the Johnson era of the '60s and the government's decision to take over the role of "father" in black communities and the devastating effects that descended from that. Racism played (and still plays) a part, but racism on its own would not have led to today's situation. If anything, the decline of inner cities today and the rise of gangs has fostered increased racism, both black and white.
First and foremost, the federal govt caused this mess. The finger can't be pointed at the black community who accepted the handouts. Who wouldn't have? But now unfortunately the problems have grown to the point where it's beyond the govt's ability to solve them. More meddling by the govt most likely will only make things worse.
Rightly or wrongly, it's fallen upon the black community and the leaders within to arise and turn it around. Black racists like Sharpton, Jackson, Farrakhan, Jeremiah Wright, etc., are not the answer. They either perpetuate the status quo or make it worse.
A new voice is the only answer.

You forgot the biggest problem on the west and south sides of Chicago. Babies having babies..they can't and in many instances won't take care of their children. They grow up running around like wild wolves on the street. Their fathers', if they are even around, are sometimes running around with them teaching them exactly what not to do in life because that's what they were taught by their 17 year old father. Look around these neighborhoods at night, particularly in the summer months and you will see young children everywhere out at all hours of the night.
As far as CPS goes I'm sure there are plenty of people that read this blog that can go on and on about those scumbags. It seems that half of the time the kids that actually show up to school aren't even in school. They are out in the streets protesting Trump, the police, transgender bathrooms, etc, etc. The Chicago public school system is the biggest joke in the country. All they are teaching nowadays is to scream and yell in the street when you don't get your way.

Do you honestly think that the IG is going to conduct a fair and impartial investigation on this incident? First of all who does the IG work for? How does one get a job at the IG Office. ALMOST EVERYONE OF THE PEOPLE who are employed there are POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS. Second, Who is going to conduct the investigation? A political appointee who owes his or her job to the a ward committeeman? Does this person have a clue on proper police procedures? Who is going to be interviewed for this investigation? Are all the parties involved in this incident going to be interviewed? Boys and girls this is going to be a white wash just as the investigation on the Lt's exam is going to be a white wash. And if the investigation is found to be sustained, do you honestly think that Special Ed's girlfriend is going to be severely disciplined? Here is my prediction: That she was a concerned mother who went to the station to check on his wellbeing. The Investigation will state that although there is a appearance of impropriety, she will be found to have done nothing wrong. The investigation will reveal that due to the fact that the arresting officers did not follow proper procedure's that there was no probably cause to bring him into the station for processing. They will get several days off due to not following proper procedures. The Officers immediate supervisor will get more time because he/she did not properly supervise the officers under his supervision. Here is where it gets tricky. If the watch commander is connected he or she will get a slap on the writs. If the watch commander is not connected he or she will get severely punished. SSC, take this post and keep it in the back of your wonderful mind and see if this does come thru.

Okay, good points but I attended CPS, none of my family members turned out terrible and neither did my friends. We had discipline at home and in the school. Now you cannot even raise your voice to a kid or you get arrested. My parents would be in jail even today if that were the case. Education is free, for whatever reason that message is lost.
