At last check, February is down over a dozen homicides from last year. There's some warm weather coming up next week, so things could change in a hurry, but at the moment, it's possible that the gangs have run out of people to kill.

More cops, real sentences for gangbangers caught with a gun, possible federal charges/sending the misbegotten waifs into the federal system and getting back to a environment where the bangers fear cops.

Regarding the shooting of the bystander I've seen dozens of comments from people bitching that the cop should have been charged. WRONG. That comes under sometimes bad things happen. Apologize, quickly settle with family financially, and try to learn from the incident to REDUCE the chances of a similar incident happening again.
Such incidents will happen again because there is no such thing as perfection in this world.

Every time a pro 2nd Amendment law is passed, there are wailing dems predicting a return to the Wild West. But it never happens. It seems like permitting law abiding citizens to be legally armed, actually reduces violence in certain areas. And the violence moves to the areas where the cupcakes dwell. Could that be due the cupcakes being unarmed? nah.
The violence in the hood never changes because they don't obey any laws. Not gun laws and certainly not those that prohibit ventilating everyone who looks sideways at.them.

Back in 92 007 had over 100 homicides (99 officially, but those that were working there knew the truth). Anyway, the following year saw a significant decrease. The superintendent took the credit . What those of us who worked there believed, because we worked there, was, after years of shootings and homicides and arrests,it became a less target rich environment. A lot of the shootings were over territory or succession and take overs. A lot were over some incident where one party had a beef with another, and of course you settle it by killing the offending party. The violence is down because so many are dead or in jail.

My sincere condolences to Andrew Holmes, a friend to us, a friend to victims of violent crime and a relative of one of the litte girls who was shot over the weekend. I wish him peace of mind, if that is at all possible to find.
