A Corrupt Judge?
- A highly regarded Cook County judge who formerly worked for the Illinois Lottery and state Department of Revenue is facing federal fraud charges for providing false information to obtain loans for properties on the South Side, authorities announced Wednesday.
Judge Jessica Arong O’Brien, 49, was charged with one count of mail fraud affecting a financial institution, and one count of bank fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Chicago.
The alleged crimes occurred before O’Brien was elected the first female Filipino-American judge in the Circuit Court of Cook County in 2012, filling the seat vacated by the retirement of Judge Harry Simmons Jr.
Improper financial dealings? We always thought that was part of the job description to hold any elected or appointed office in Cook County. The list of aldercreatures, mayors, governors, judges and assorted ward bosses would fill encyclopedias. The was a recent US Senator who had shady financial dealings with some guy named Rezko, and he ended up in DC for eight years.
How about the US Attorney try something different for once, and squeeze the judge for some other fish over at the Illinois Lottery? Every head she gives Session's people, she gets two months shaved off her sentence, up to a total of five years. That'd give Sessions 30 others to squeeze - except these only get a single month per head they give up. That would be 900 potential arrests.
Sessions could put a sizable dent in Crook County corruption in four years on plea bargains alone.

Story makes it sound serious and it likely is, but it could be something as simple as getting a loan from a family member and claiming it was a "gift" and didn't need to be paid back.
That normally happens on SFH or condo purchases, but if the feds are talking about a "financial statement" regarding her overall financial condition and she didn't disclose that could be part of it.
Or she could be a complete dirtbag.
POS aptly describes her as a typical Crook County demorat wetting her beak.
WHOOOO!
SCC our main man!
Give us five!
>CLAP!<
Solid!
Mmm-Hmm!
She must have forgotten to kick back to Madigan for the Judge Ship !
Damn! Another democrat goes to jail? For committing a crime? Thought these angelic elected and appointed ones were "above the law". Guess they did too.
J.J.
SSC....Now THAT sounds like a pretty DAMN GOOD plan to me.....Phuq these TURDS.....
This occurred between 2004 and 2007. There were thousands of these cases during that time period that were not investigated or ever charged. She made the mistake of becoming a judge, and therefore a good headline. I'm sure this case has been sitting in a box on Roosevelt Road for years. The 10 year statute for Bank Fraud was just about up, so she had to go. The bad news for her is that it's all provable and all documented. Bank account records don't lie and don't change their story. She's toast.
Hmmmmmmmmm she must have been a democrat
They caught the judge and they couldn't catch a certain midget former terrorist and alderman now midget senator?
Jessica O'Brien's husband is also a Cook County judge.
This is just the tip of the iceberg with these Cook County judges. Lawyers are paying them off in droves. Time for another Grey Lord.
Elected you don't get elected you get picked to be a judge in cook county. To use the word elected is to give legitimacy to a system that only a fool could believe is on the up and up. Yes plenty of fools in cook county.
Highly unusual, yeah right.
Corrupt judge and corrupt States Attorney.
Does FoxWinkle still have a part-time position at a law firm that regularly sues Cook Co Jail for mistreatment of inmates?
Some thug just was awarded $13 million...after Cook Co dropped charges.
They're are only on the bench to enrich themselves one way or another, neither fair, balanced or blind.
Judges are also allowed to collect campaign contributions too, how nice...just like Foxwinkle and Rahm.
Where there's social justice reform - there's corruption.
Shocking! I am glad I was sitting when I read this. If you can't trust the great , huge , and I mean really great judges that are just so wonderful in CC we are doomed. Hopefully the really, really competent Tim Evans and the supper , fantastically great lady Toni Preckwinkle will sort this out and restore the really beautiful, wonderful and really , really fantastic reputation of our courts.
I was on the United flight when the man was dragged off and now unfortunately I have PTSD. I need an attorney , wait I mean a doctor , but not the one who was dragged off because he has a concussion , it's complicated but fortunately Dean is advising me on the best way to scam. I meant proceed. Hope to see you all at my fundraiser.
Give me this clowns numbers like badge or numbers to the like, please. This has sneaky "Big Day Lotto" score on it.
Another choice pick by Ed Burke!
I guess Arong doesn't make it right, does it?
Yes, I'll go away now.... :)
Lets see. Worked for the Illinois lottery and Illinois Department of Revenue. Quite an impressive government career track. Developed those critical skills to be a highly regarded Democrat judge in Cook County.
In the name of diversity, the first Filipino-American judge elected as a democrat in Cook County.
Conversely, now the first Filipino-American judge with an Irish name from the democratic party to be indicted on one count of mail fraud affecting a financial institution and one count of bank fraud.
Stellar lawers make the best judges. The average Joe or Jane cannot comprehend the legal language contained in mortgage and loan applications. But when the average person signs on the dotted line on what reads as a foreign language, you are responsible in a court of law and held accountable for the guarantee your signature acknowledges to understanding.
Lawyers and judges actually comprehend these documents while everyone else signs these documents in good faith blindly accepting all the asteristics, legalese and fine print disclaimers. These documents are cleverly crafted by lawyers. By design, it takes another lawyer to explain these documents to Joe six pack. Maybe, the judge should consulted another lawyer to ensure all documents and personal actions were in conformance to the letter of the law.
