56 Floors?
- A man says a bullet came through the window of a Chicago high-rise, and now he's trying to figure out who fired the shot.
Neel Sukhatme said he was doing some work late Sunday night after his children went to bed when he heard a loud noise and felt glass flying.
He said a bullet came through the window of his parent's condo on the 56th floor of a high-rise in the 400-block of North Lake Shore Drive.
Most likely just a random asshole, but 56 floors up? Rifle?

Daisy Red Ryder BB Rifle - those guns kicked ass!!!!! You can knock an eye out with one!
Didn't something similar happen a few months back in the same general location?
Could be a rifle or could be a handgun round. Depends which side his window faces. Idiots shooting handguns in the air don't care that a 9mm or .357 can kill over 100 yards away. Neel's parents escaped India to make a better life for their family in the U.S. Too bad they picked Chicago. Life in this city teaches hard lessons. Act accordingly.
I've always wondered about those NYC high rise
apts., condos, "homes" that always show floor to
ceiling windows with no curtains. That's a fish-bowl
special to me with all the nuts in NYC. I understand
the darkened room thing watching the city lights.
But how many nuts out there, with silencers, either
aiming or taking pot shots? And don't you think the
more exclusive, expensive, posh buildings would draw
more fire?
This was more or less a horizontal shot, as opposed to
up from the ground.
Guarantee: no one factored this scenario into
the Predict-O-Crime computer program.
And don't take no geek bullshit. Ask any
sniper: the angles, wind drifts, bullet drops
are endless.
At 56 floors up, would this even register on
ShotSpotter, provided one was even installed
in this neighborhood?
Prediction: this guy gets off scott free unless
he makes a hobby out of this.
From pics I've seen, that bullet hole originated from a near-level trajectory.
Wildest scenario: fired from another building nearby and within a few floors height.
Likely scenario: fired by Neel Sukhatme himself from the inside.
The "stray bullet coming through a window 56 floors up" is a cockamamie story dreamt up by Neel because he fucked up in Mommy and Daddy's condo while they were away.
There'd be glass particles inside as window glass in high rises are uber tempered and break differently than most glass (kind of like auto windshields/glass).
Bottom line? Neel Sukhatme is on some bullshit.
Someone up on a roof? Someone on a balcony firing on a high arc with a big caliber? Some asshole firing a 30-06 for the first time - up in the air for the 4th of July?
The possibilities are endless in Chiraq...
That's incredible. My god, thankfully everyone is safe. But can you imagine? Those of us with little kids...
56 floors up. You wouldn't even think of something tragic happening like that
That was rarer than getting hit by lightning. Not to worry, if one lives, and works, downtown you are as safe as can be.
I'm thinking rifle too, pistol wouldn't have enough velocity
Thick glass, 56 floors up, rifle round?... 100%. Even the rich folks can't catch a break in this city...

I think this is a winner.
Probably fired from the 56th floor apartment in the building next door by one of the section 8 tenants living in the $3,000 a month subsidized housing offered there!
Did anyone recover the bullet?
Better ban high rises and Windows. Those items can be dangerous. Please think of the children.
Did they find the spent bullet inside the apartment?
If not, it probably was shot from inside?
Either way, FIDO.
Helicopter?
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Someone testing out their new M4?
(OT) here is some refreshing news no not here and are corrupt state that panders to the illegals and felons:
Food stamp rolls plummet in states that restore work requirements
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/07/04/food-stamp-rolls-plummet-in-states-that-restore-work-requirements.html
The state of Illinois would never do this cannot ask lazy people to work because then they would not vote for our corrupt dishonest politicians simple as that! Illinois is broke they tell us this is directly done by The elected we have destroyed and decimated the state. As they take away police self-care do not find the Police Pension's properly but yet pander to people like this that do nothing but cause crime and mayhem throughout the city county and state it will never change here!
A 9mm bullet can travel about 1.5 miles with a speed of approx 350 ft/s prior to impact. 56th floor is about 0.1 miles (don't know from story if it came from street level or higher or blocks away). A bullet from handgun would have no problem penetrating a window on the 56th floor as long as shot from <1 mile away.
NeEl did not take fire from ground level. That round was fired from the balcony or rooftop of a nearby building. More than likely some asshole thinking he was celebrating the holiday with his noisemaker and "safely" firing toward the Lake where the bullet would just simply fall into the water. Some liquor fueled asshole who thinks gunfire is a similar celebratory method to skyrockets. This was no gang war gone awry in the upscale community, this was another Done-well-in-life-so-far asshole with access to a pistol who lives nearby.
Your all wrong it was the Door Gunner on PH 1.
A pistol shot can easily reach that height and break a window.
In imperial units, terrestrial gravity is 32 ft/sec^2. If we say 56 stories is about 700 feet that height equates to about 150 ft/sec of velocity from the ground.
Muzzle velocity from a 9mm is about 1500 ft/sec, so the gravitational effect on bullet on the way up would shave off only about 1/10 of the initial energy leaving the muzzle.
Air resistance is probably the bigger limit, but we all know that the air resistance over a mere 700 feet is nowhere near enough to greatly slow a bullet.
I'd say nobody could shoot a pistol *accurately* 56 stories up, but yeah, you could definitely break a window.
--PhysicsNerd
Bullet "came through the window"? Okay, so where is that round? I've seen some crazy trajectories. Round traveled straight through two panes of glass upwards figuring the shot lined up with someone on the front lawn except a fresh snowfall said no way. Shot came from five blocks away and had been on a downward trajectory until hitting the window then reversed it. Weird.

More than 100 people shot in Chicago over long Fourth of July weekend
Chicago saw one of its most violent Fourth of July weekends in recent years: At least 101 people were shot between Friday afternoon and early Wednesday, nearly half of them over 12 hours as the long holiday drew to a close. Fifteen of the wounded died. The last time the Fourth holiday span.
Wow over 100 shot rahm look here you spent millions on overtime denied officers time with their families while you and your pathetic bunch had the "wine and cheese" with your team of "valets" err "armed bodyguards" all overpaid out of rank CPD coppers who also get the huge pension dip as commanders or sergeants rate!!
The "blood rahm" the "blood" everywhere, maybe you and the 50 and durbin, duckworth, toni and the rest can bastardize everyone from President trump to hard working CPD officers along with your dishonest media clan 24/7, but the stench is on you, the people should be up in arms, father flaky jackson and the rest should be marching at your offices and your homes demanding an end to the violence, the murder, the carnage. The only way these morons come out is when a police officers does anything and the 24/7 "we ate the police" dishonest media runs constantly the story of the copper and puts their lying liberal slant on it! Rahm will never forget your pathetic tearful nonsense when you came out about jvd after you hid the video to get elected! Look what you have caused rahm! sickening!
The President is leaving "the forgotten men and women" of this city state county on their own, no mayor sending in 1 ice cream style van and 20 dea officers is nothing but the old "dog and pony" show as you gloat about all the help you brought here! The only way trump can do anything here is to send dept. of justice people throughout city hall-and over to county side immediately to forensically audit everything lets see who the real criminals are! then maybe they could show some mercy and look at CPD pension funds to see over the years where "our money" has been going, you know like the dv (daley family) urban 60 million "poof" gone loan! Who authorized that? whoever should be prosecuted and indicted! Taking police retirees healyh care away mayor as you violate federal laws and sprinkle billions around and the pension board come on where is "our money?" Crickets again::
Shot fired into tourist 's room ..he decided to immediately leave , his 2 little kids were unhurt.
Great promo for Chicago Tourism
Probably a section 8 unit.

SILENCER???? What kind of idiot are you?
If it's 474 N LSD, then that building is weird. It's where Richard Roeper lived. They also had a meth lab there at one point years back.
Wasn't this a thing happening a year or so ago to a building near the Aqua hotel?
Nancy!! There's your answer; to Dad's lingering question. Time to call Koenig & Strey, lol. No one was shot (or robbed, stabbed, jacked, etc.) at the summer cottage this past week, Mom!!
The owner is now selling the condo he gone
"A man says a bullet came through the window of a Chicago high-rise, and now he's trying to figure out who fired the shot."
– Ok professor...you get 27 guesses and the first 26 don't count.
Georgetown should be proud.
"Most likely just a random asshole, but 56 floors up?"
– Yes ...random asshole. Many live in the tolerant liberal lakefront.
Maybe it was his Section 8 Voucher neighbor a couple balconies over or in the next building over.
56 floors loaded and voted Democrat.
Not a police problem. Pay your deductible and call your AlderIdiot Brendan Riley.
I fart in your direction--
Dude what are you talking about when you say "from pics I've seen...". There was only one pic available and was on the channel 7 website. What other pics are you talking about? The evidence technicians would not be called, they would not process the crime scene since no one was hit. So what are you talking about?
Some cops, always want to conclude every job they encounter is bullshit or the victim is on bullshit. This gives the responding officer the excuse to not do shit.
Maybe a slightly used FBI M4?
Likely an accidental discharge inside the condo.
Barry Obama smart on crime initiative "very dumb"

8 years of total utter failure now they are naming a piece of the Stevenson expressway after him, that library they are will spending billions on will be a total waste of space, he did nothing what will he put in there? The anti-police movement started with him, look at the amount if crime here. Over 100 shot 14 dead, rahm and Barry the music team are absolutely failures! God bless the police, and rahm and Eddie and durbin so excited about 1 van,and 20 dea people, hmm 20 dea they could put let's see 23 districts how many areas how many watches say above 1/4 dea agent per watch!
This window is west facing. Other stories have a pic of the bullet recovered inside. It could have come from further west down Illinois. There isn't anything in the way basically from Michigan ave until this building on LSD.
Well, I sure am glad "Chicago Police" are "investigating".
On that note, with the bullet of large caliber coming INTO the apartment and through the glass so cleanly, one would think it would be easy to FIND, oh yeah and where are the pics of the walls, you know, where it went through them inside the apartment?
WUT ?No bullet? No holes in any walls?
I agree with poster number one. Looks like it was shot up close and the bullet is outside somewhere, however far it traveled.
What side of the building got hit?
A drunken whack job on a boat could take pot shots from 2 miles away on the lake with a rifle and a suppressor.
I'm thinking rifle too, pistol wouldn't have enough velocity
-----
A 1200 foot per second .45acp round would have enough velocity....
just think crime has reached the wealthy
vote vote in 2019
1121 AM should be immediately dismissed for using the word "dude". Must be the hair gel talking. Original Fart post is correct. But you'd have to have more than a minute otj and been the real police at some point to see that, both things you obviously don't have. Get back to ANOVing white kids for weed, junior. Your spot on the tact team depends on it.
https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20170705/downtown/stray-bullet-flies-through-window-on-56th-floor-of-streeterville-tower
Looks like police confirmed a bullet went through the glass and "I fart in your general direction" is wrong again.
If the bullet was fired from outside, then it should be inside. The building is under a negative pressure, so the glass will break inward for the most part. The ceiling of the apartment is concrete, so if it were on an upward trajectory, it should have hit the ceiling somewhere.
The building did not have a meth LAB in it. Users yes, LAB, no. That's the idiot that popped out of the apartment with a nightstick vs. two officers in the hallway and actually decided to surrender instead of get ventilated.
Could it be related to the new pedestrian/bike 'fly-over' bridge next to Lake Point Tower? Better to close that, the beach, the Ohio St. tunnel, and Lake Shore Drive. We must save the children!
Is nowhere safe?
So was it an inny or an outy?
Was a streetlight below the window? Wasn't there someone known for shooting UP at them? Hm.
Muzzle velocity from a 9mm is about 1500 ft/sec, so the gravitational effect on bullet on the way up would shave off only about 1/10 of the initial energy leaving the muzzle.
Not only do we have 1200ft per sec .45 acp now but also 1500ft per sec 9mm. Don't people have chronometers or does everyone just happily believe claims from ammo manufacturers? Don't get me wrong you can get those numbers out of heavy charges and light bullets from both calibers, but you are not getting that out of Winchester white box or even common defensive loads.
I'm pretty sure it was Jason Bourne.
Agreed. 1000 fps is the high end number for a knucklehead, and even so it is possible with a handgun. And seriously ... CPS can't figure out from the window damage if the round came in or went out? C'mon...
Neel let a round pop off himself accidentally while playing quick draw!
Find the round then do the math Captain gravity.

Well then...
1700ft per sec 125gr .357 Magnum (6" pipe) ought to make everybody
push back from the table and properly genuflect.
PhysicsNerd
You may know a little something about physics but obviously very little about ballistics.
Most handgun bullets lose 1/4 of their velocity in the first 100 yards. Which means that they lose 1/2 their energy. The aerodynamic drag is enormous. Especially with short body blunt tail handgun bullets.
A bullet fired vertically from the ground going horizontal to break a vertical window....explain if you can.
Also a bullet striking tempered glass makes a distinct mark. Unless bullet is fired close it may not penetrate. It will punch the glass, perhaps making a small hole with a cone shaped divot on the inside of the glass. Very little fragments.
1500 fps 9mm.
1200 fps .45ACP...
THAT what the ammo makers say. And it is TRUE...but..
That is out of test barrels. Rifled differently from gun barrel. And they don't cycle
The Russians did it.

Also, 2 miles? So, they are using a suppressed .50 BMG????? BIG $$$$$$$

Don't tell the hairgels this. They all think they are shooting cannons as promised by their peers and ammo makers.
Nothing replaces shot placement.
Yes we all know that........
