Raise Those Taxes!
- With the state on the cusp of a catastrophic credit downgrade, the Illinois House on Sunday voted to end the historic budget drought by passing a long-awaited spending plan and seeking to pay for it by hiking the income tax rate to 4.95 percent.
But nothing is ever easy when it comes to patching up a political feud between two of the state’s most powerful men: Democratic Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner.
Rauner’s administration on Sunday night said he’d veto both measures as soon as they hit his desk, should the Illinois Senate concur with the House on Monday. The administration also advised that members of the General Assembly “shouldn’t go anywhere.”
Madigan is such an asshole. We certainly hope the FOP is adjusting pay raises proposals upward so that we can afford to live in this rapidly emptying city.

Where are all the working class going to keep getting all this money!!
I just want to move!
Speaking of FOP do you guys not understand that they regularly approve donations to Madigan at the monthly board meetings? Ask Dorghter.
I liked it the other day when a suburban rep called him "Speaker Junk". The look on his face was priceless. Fucking thief.
There is no other way around this mess other than to declare bankruptcy. The pensions were a fucking bad idea. The math never added up. How can a person only contribute 100k but withdraw over a million? Then on top of that, if you take a gig for only a few weeks you can triple your pension. Or take a gig for even a day? But with the state constitution no one could make changes. So you have employees retiring at 50, taking another gig with another pension and really cashing out. There should have been limits to begin with. When the contributions from the city were not made, what happened to the lawsuits? Why the pension holidays, why allow borrowing from the pension funds? Why are the experts at managing the funds still being paid but the returns are shit? But lets blame this on EBT users not paying soda tax. We all are going to pay for this mess.
My question is what is happening to the money that has been pouring in to the state since the last budget. They haven't stopped collecting the current taxes and aren't paying out on many obligations. I would think that the interest earned should be more than enough to negate the need for a tax hike. I would think it might even be enough once a budget is passed to move us out of the red and back into the black...
Lay off all state supervisory employees
Workers will continue to get job done
Raising taxes for the children is good. Now the schools will not have to close. God bless our brave legislature.
The governor may veto the tax bills.
The Illinois Senate hasn't passed that s4!t sandwich that Madigan sent them?
Why not?
When?
FOP needs to negotiate for some sort of cost of living increase for forcing cops to live in the city. Recent property tax increase totally negates our last contract raise.
This city, county, state is so fucked up....its a sinking ship that no one can believe will really sink. Time for plan b....ready plan c.
Nice, make less money next year over all because of inflation and more taxes.... nice Mudigan
Back in 1968 the Illinois state income tax was to be temporary. Madigan and company are a bunch of thieves.
FOP how about you start bring up residency. You work for us and we want this lifted remember you can and will be voted out if you do not help your members
Its the Madigan way of crooked politics, raise the taxes paid by the people and then blame the people. That is why the city and state is so broke and screwed up. If he had to run a business he would have been broke and in a gutter in his first year. but when you have an endless tax payers piggy bank to take from, it eventually runs out. It is not the fault of the workers nor their pensions, it is the fault of thieving politicians like Madigan and the stupid voters that keep him in office. He is not for the middle class and the unions, he destroyed them. Get in the real world people.

You really really don't grasp the amount of debt the state has run up. Interest earned would be a drop in the bucket. The state is addicted to spending, and Madigan just can't stop himself.

AH HA!
Finally the light bulbs are coming on!
The entire government has been taking in record amounts of tax revenue, if it's not being spent to pay the bills then where is it being stashed...???
We do not have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem...
If any of us (& some do sadly) ran our households like the government we'd be flat broke & in bankruptcy...
32% pay raises for all
I can't even come up with a normal raise amount that we will come out even!
5% a year and we still will be under water.
ON ANOTHER NOTE
SEE WHAT RAHM CONTRACT BUSTER HAVE COME UP WITH IN THESE LINKS

IF you think you can reason with the public you have lost your mind. Get ready for police pleading the 5th after a shooting!
The big tax increase last time went to the teachers union.
The talk of this money is also of going "to the children", aka the teachers union.
Congress in DC only works a little more than 200 days per year.
Only teachers work less days.
And they continually turn out failed products.
MADigan is such a world class ass-wipe. A couple days ago, Madigan said the credit rating agencies need to give him ENOUGH time to come to an agreement. Enough time? Fuck you, Mike, you've had two fucking years!
And what a great plan he came up with. Everyone except Chicago gets a property tax freeze, so they're a winner. Madigan gets to keep his lucrative law practice handling property tax appeals, so he's a winner. And who takes it in the shorts? Anyone who owns real estate in Chicago.
The Democratic party used to be the party of the working class people. Now it is only the party of the coastal elites. People like us in the middle of the country are only chumps to be tapped for our tax dollars, so the Democrats can continue to fund failed social policies in an effort to buy votes.
Call the next case. Not a cop.
More nonsense from the Kings of Nonsense.
If Cantor-Fitzgerald can spend 400,000 to hire Obama to spew his divisive rubbish, they are sitting on too much money. Tax the shit out of them and leave us little people alone!

The FOP works for the twerp murder mayor...
Let's not forget that 15 Republicans voted with Madigan to pass this, otherwise it doesn't pass
Republicans just cannot stick together here or in DC
Just as well that there are not any Republicans within the Cook County limits
My son moved to North Carolina and I told him to NEVER come back to Chicago or Illinois!
I rather go down and visit him!
North Carolina is a far better place than Illinois! Fuck Illinois and Chicago!
Gas in North Carolina was just $2 a gallon, as well as everything else is just cheaper!
We don't have a monopoly on the shitty financial mess. Too many social entitlement programs being doled out to people who haven't put a dime into the system. Look no further than the programs coming out of city hall. And would somebody, please, with normal sized teeth, and ego run against Louis Gutierrez. Thank you, that felt better to get that off my chest.
The more they raise taxes, the more people leave the state. Basic economics. Must be their goal to get rid of all the productive tax payers.
FOP gives Madigan campaign donations!! Keep voting for these thieves Keep voting for the democrats!!
Vote the daughter out. That will teach the asshole.
All this pain and misery caused by... democrats. Don't worry though, they can blame it all on their Republican governor. It all just happened overnight you know.
J.J.
Hard to keep all those social programs going, keep the schools overloaded with bureaucracy, keep all those way-too-many politicians and their way-too-many staffers paid, when only HALF of the population is contributing.
When you have politicians in positions of power for 30+ years, not paying the ALLOTTED pension money in, stealing it for other nefarious reasons, catering to their friends and family with sweetheart deals, this is what you get.
Seriously, it is time to vote OUT every single incumbent and start over.....
The minute you can, get the fuck out of this state. This is not a fix. It's barely a bandaid. While this tax hike is incredibly onerous on individuals it doesn't come close to fixing the problem. I for one don't plan on being here when the shit really hits the fan. And it's coming.
Again Madigan playing chicken without regard for anyone else. He adjourned on the 30th saying he was close to a deal that included the Governors reforms. Then Sat they come back at 11am and he lets them go without a vote 2 hours later. Then Sunday the bill they put up for a vote is JUST THE TAX INCREASE. No reforms. That's why the governor is vetoing. I can't even express my utter disgust at Madigan for thinking his political win is more important than the bankruptcy of this state. And of course the media is telling none of the facts of why the Gov is vetoing. Today they are running ads on TV that say the gov is comfortable while you suffer -call him. Disgusting.
Vote Republican case closed turn off the lights

It is rare for someone to make so many points and be dead wrong on all of them, but I think you did it!
Five percents tax on 100 g is $5,000 .00 time to retire and leave this city and country house up for sale
Madigan's the asshole? Wrong-o. Rauner is so anti-union, not just public sector union, that he'll drive the state into bankruptcy just to try and get his way. Coppers need to figure out who they want as their friends. I like my union protections and pension - more than I give a shit about right wing causes.
If all the taxes help promote our sanctuary city it's all good with me.
Jorge.
I don't care if my taxs are raised as long as they spend the money wisely, pay down bills, build schools, fix roads. What we don't want to spend on is taking care of people who should be taking care of themselves. We don't want to be a sanctuary city, we don't want to pay for school lunches when MaMa gets link to feed her kids. Raise my taxes so I can't be with my kids but give it to others who don't take care of their kids. When's it gonna end?
Rahm was gloating that the House Dems (with the help of over a dozen GOP reps) all voted to raise State taxes.
He went on to say it's the government responsibility.
He is one rotten mother f'er.
All the Dem Reps agreed that money should be free flowing for deadbeat entitlements.
No Jobs - Just Welfare.
The only way to stop the welfare spigot is to eliminate the Democrats on the ballot.
Start with Rahm, PrickCanker and all 13 (D) County Commissioners.
As for Pensions statewide...go find yo'own munny bit'chizz.
The only way out; get rid of residency requirement; move to Indiana

Why can't we say "schools are full" why do we use taxpayers resources to educate feed house illegals? Billions in federal aide vanishing quickly rahm Toni tommy durbin Tammy do nothing for the taxpayers we need to vote them all out! The blood is flowing in this corrupt city-state-county due to negligence of politicians!
I'll bet any money that Madigan and Cullerton pick their nose and eat it. ♠️
It should merit capital punishment for any state politician of a state in the top half of US states' taxers to propose any tax increase.
IL or NJ has the highest combined state taxes in the nation. IL sure isn't half as nice a place as a number of lower tax states.
All these tax raisers should fry.
Nonexistent money to be taxed by nonexistent tax payers.
Wait till Trump takes away the ability to deduct state taxes from the federal. Move to Texas and don't pay a state tax.
To the asshat jag stating pensions are a bad idea and we shouldn't blame EBT users: F you and the horse you rode in on, pussy liberal sympathizer.
A THIRTY TWO PERCENT (32%) tax increase! So tell me all you pro-residency trolls, is this another thing I "knew" when I "took" the job?
Illinois is Bankrupt,,Illinois has 3rd largest illegal population in USA ..Largest Black County in USA ..Crook County,IL
Taxpayers leaving State. leaving nonpayers left .. LOL Good Luck ..Hello Florida in 2018
Soda Tax,Plasticbag tax, Highest sales tax in America Highest Property tax in America.. Chicago ?? Hello Newark or Detroit
Hope FOP is adjusting accordingly in terms of our raises to live in this shithole.

Simply said, can't wait to retire and move somewhere cheaper.

Seriously, it is time to vote OUT every single incumbent and start over.....
7/04/2017 09:02:00 AM
Given that, here in the county of crooks, city of shitheads and state of slime balls...:
1. There are no republicans/conservatives/actual Americans currently enthroned as our "duly elected representatives".....
2. The game of politics is thoroughly fixed and all means considered as normal have been voided......by the usual suspects using the proven effective methods.....
3. Thus, normal methods of voting will fail....
Soooooooooo......mathematics is the only method that has even a miniscule possibility of, as you observed the dire need for, ousting the incumbent scum....
To wit:
Step 1: Identify incumbent on ballot
Step 2:
If incumbent is listed FIRST on ballot, then vote for whoever is listed LAST
OR
If incumbent is NOT listed FIRST on ballot, then vote for whoever IS listed FIRST
This is simple elimination formula to oust incumbents, whether in party primary or general elections. It only requires a sufficient quantity of citizens to apply it.
It does not require the same thinking of the voter that has been successfully manipulated by the political scam artists for decades.
It does require the voter to decide that ousting incumbents is the first step in regaining control of our state, county and city governments.
First you kick the fuck out of the anthill, then you watch them scatter, then you get to work on laying those patio pavers.......
The taxpigs in the senate overrode Rauner.
God help you guys.
GTFOH as SOON as you can!!!!
Fuck you Madigan , you thief!!!
Quick question, all the money taken in the Lottery is in cash , no accountability and no record wake up America the politicians are robbing us blind and laughing.
6:20 your question was so quick I must have missed it.
Illinois...who's got money woes?
"State Rep. LaShawn Ford introduced the legislation in February to honor the former president, who calls Chicago’s South Side home and served as an Illinois state senator...“We can imagine that then state Senator Obama made many trips between Springfield and Chicago on Interstate 55, so it is very fitting that we rename Interstate 55 as the Barack Obama Expressway,”
– Broke as broke can be, signs are being made for the Wefare President It's only fitting dipshit Lashawn would name a stretch of The Penitentiary Passage near Pontiac, after the guy who released the most vermin ever back into society.
You mean he didn't invite you over for dinner. I'd ignore you too.
Chicago’s tax on disposable bags is celebrating its sixth month anniversary — and not bringing in as much cash as the city had hoped.
Chicago aimed to raise $9.2 million from the 7-cents-a-bag fee in its first year. As of collection on June 18, the tax has raised nearly $2.4 million in the nearly five months since it took effect; that leaves it well off the mark, said Molly Poppe, a spokesperson for the city’s Department of Finance.

You sound like McCarthy - YOU HAD A 50% INCREASE IN SHOOTINGS! Yeah, we went from 2 to 3.

This was a no brained. It is going to be worse under Preckwinkle's soda tax. Not only will the projected income from the soda tax be lower than expected, but it will lower the revenue from gasoline taxes. Taxes on groceries, retail shopping tax, restaurant, etc because when chicagoans leave the city to buy soda, they will also do the mentioned shopping outside the county. How can politicians be so stupid

No it is not. Which just ruins your argument. It's isn't the same as knowing the residency requirement when you to the job' this wasn't so what's your point?

In half an hour, I'm heading outside the city to buy groceries. I'll be spending at least $150, getting normal grocery bags (not the half-size ones Jewel is now using, to profit further from the tax), paying nothing extra for bottled water, then I'll buy gas (though I usually gas up outside of Cook county, not just outside the city).
This will cost me maybe fifty cents in gas and an extra 12-15 minutes in travel time, but the store is nicer, the staff is nicer, the patrons are nicer... Getting closer every day to selling the home that's been in our family for sixty years and leaving this God-forsaken state.

Very smart, I never buy anything inside cook county. Also moving soon but never bought so its even easier for me.
Glad I have nothing or no one keeping me from leaving this department and state. Family has all moved out, most friends have moved and im now following.
To the FOP - If you intend to endorse EITHER Madigan next year, you are as stupid as Deano & Donahue! Since all voters get to vote for
IL AG, vote the do nothing clown out! Too bad only a few voters get to vote daddy out of his state rep district. Let Little Lisa take the hit for her dad's sins. Dump the dastardly duo!

They will endorse madigan maybe both. They don't want to get Madigan mad. Nothing passes without his ok. My guess is he gave the new COLA raised to 1966 the ok before it left committee
