A male suspect jumped in the vehicle and sped away, police said. No injuries were reported.

I live in an affluent, mostly white suburb and when I'm at the gas station - even standing pumping gas - the car is off, the keys are in my pocket and the doors are locked. People have been known to steal stuff out of cars while the driver is distracted pumping gas. That FBI agent might as well have put a neon sign on the car that said, "Steal me!" Hope the car has GPS so they can track it down right away. I suspect those guns are gone, gone, gone.

When arrested the perpetrator's mother was quoted "He really good and has tried to turns his lifes around. But its hard on a young man when, shit the police leaves a car running? Whats he supposed to do?"

My Task Force Officer credentials opened up a lot of doors that I intend to call on when I retire in two years. Now I'm stuck on the watch in 008 with folks who are the polar opposite. If I were younger I would become a federal agent even if it wee an OIG.

Yes, I have told my family members try not to go to any gas station after dark, never leave your engine running and never leave your purse visible. I have stored a weapon in my car when at the golf course or a family event for a short time. I would never do it overnight parked on a public way. I have heard that some thugs target parked cars with police stickers visible.It is a shame that now there is an automatic weapon on the street with untold rounds of ammo

I worked for a few years with FBI agents. I found most of them to be competent, however, the best ones were former city cops.

The problem with a lot of federal law enforcement agencies is they are now hiring straight from college. Little to no life experience. In addition, society is becoming a lot rougher then it was a few years back and the people the feds are hiring that are a lot politer (softer?) then they were years ago. That's why problems like this come up and why they will get worse in the years ahead. Also if you want to really laugh, see if you can get a hold of one the FBI's disciplinary summaries (They are emailed out to all FBI Agents.). They come out a couple of times a year. It is a redacted version of violations FBI Special Agents have committed and the punishment handed out. As a friend of mine said, "You can't make this dodo up!" Also check out "brick agent underground", not as good as SSC but interesting none the less.

Fed cars don't have Onstar; they order without or delete it as it was discovered the a Saudi company owns Onstar. I know this because I had a rental assigned to me while on a FBI task force and had to take it back because it had Onstar... per FBI policy it couldn't be parked in the Fed garage or used for surveillance if equipped with Onstar. But that was a few years ago when The FB1 was actually doing surveillance! Now they are just giving guns, vests and cars to the mutts, go figure.
A lot of the FBI guys end up jumping over to the wonderful justice department. Yes, the same federal agency that came to Chicago, did a quick 6 month investigation of our department and gave us such scathing reviews. That agency is stacked with bean counters like this guy. I agree, everyone makes mistakes. But I mean come on! If I went to another city and was getting gas in a ruff neighborhood, I certainly would leave my car running with 4 guns and my vest inside, while I pumped my gas. Why did I leave the JTTF? Well an M2 with clout came in and got my spot despite the fact that he was not bilingual and did not have any enhanced skills. I am not only English/Spanish bilingual but I also speak Portugese so go figure. I came into the JTTF from a watch after working my tail off so when I got dumped I could not go the D Unit and my juice retired a year ago. Anyway no crying here I'm applying to become an intelligence analyst with the FBI since I have 18 months to retire and I already have a TS clearance with polygraph.
I'd advise anyone to do what you have to do to become aTFO with the FBI, DEA, or DHS/HSI. ATF has some solid workers as well but too many cases focused on hood rats. If you are with ATF don't expect to do any global travel, just travel to where the hood rats go. When I was on the JTTF we were all treated as professionals and my M1 sergeant was a prince to work for and held in high esteem by the FBI ASAC. They didn't tolerate bad language, sloppy reports, sexism, racism of any kind including reverse racism or homophobia. So if you want to become a super cop go JTTF!

I cannot believe the stupidity of that FBI agent! I live in an affluent, mostly white suburb and when I'm at the gas station - even standing pumping gas - the car is off, the keys are in my pocket and the doors are locked. People have been known to steal stuff out of cars while the driver is distracted pumping gas. That FBI agent might as well have put a neon sign on the car that said, "Steal me!" Hope the car has GPS so they can track it down right away. I suspect those guns are gone, gone, gone.

Why did I leave the JTTF? Well an M2 with clout came in and got my spot despite the fact that he was not bilingual and did not have any enhanced skills. I am not only English/Spanish bilingual but I also speak Portugese so go figure. I came into the JTTF from a watch after working my tail off so when I got dumped I could not go the D Unit and my juice retired a year ago. Anyway no crying here I'm applying to become an intelligence analyst with the FBI since I have 18 months to retire and I already have a TS clearance with polygraph.
I'd advise anyone to do what you have to do to become aTFO with the FBI, DEA, or DHS/HSI. ATF has some solid workers as well but too many cases focused on hood rats. If you are with ATF don't expect to do any global travel, just travel to where the hood rats go. But as a TFO with any federal agency you will have incredible experiences that you will never forget and you will have the opportunity to engage in quality law enforcement work. Because when some TFO's are still assigned to the G, they may have their rank order come up on a promotional list. When that occurs, they come back to the CPD and take the promotion. I guess you are the kind of cop who needs everything explained to them.

The fire dude is right, I had three fires and explosions because some nut pumped gas with the vehicle running. Gasoline vapors are heavier then air and the vapors are what can cause a fire at the pump. These new FBI agents as a real stupid.

We have lost so much in this country if people go through life believing this.

There's 5 gun stores within 15 mile radius of me (along with 1 post office, 2 general stores, and 2 feed stores), we have no-permit-needed open or concealed carry and we manage to have a peaceful community. I think there's only 2 towns within 30 miles that even have a police department. I leave my car running when I go into the store or the bank (in which the tellers do not stand behind bullet proof glass), the keys to my 4 wheeler in the yard stay in the ignition, and the doors to my house are unlocked, my neighbor leaves his door wide open in the nicer weather.
If a martial law scale police force is required to maintain even the thin veneer of civilization, the battle has already been lost and you're shoveling shit against the tide. You men should leave with your lives, families, health, and sanity and let the animals in the cities devour each other and then turn to eat those that have been feeding them all these years. They don't want you and they certainly don't deserve you.
Look at the way these cretins behave today, that's with full bellies, free housing, free medicine, free sail foams, free school, free utilities, and free walking around money. An FBI agents vehicle is stolen with a small arsenal and people are talking about pumping gas with the engine running. Never heard anyone speak up at the pumps when coppers are refueling. Once in a blue moon I see a cop writing an ANOV to asshole smoking at a gas station even though every gas station on the west and south side is like a smoking lounge. Sometimes it's a very fruitful stop. Just remember some gas stations have high quality cameras.

You and the chief appear to not know what you are talking about. True the converter is hot and can cause a fire is spilled on it, but did you ever think that the converter does not cool off in the few minutes it takes to pump gas. Try to open you overheated radiator right after you turn off your engine and you will end up in the burn unit at Stroger or try changing a apart plug right after turning your ignition off, you will no longer have fingerprints. Converters stay hot for a long period of time when the engine is shut off
