Subject Dead, Rifle Recovered
- Officers responding to a shots fired call in the Lawndale neighborhood ended up in an 'armed confrontation' with someone in a gangway and shot him to death, according to police.
The shooting happened in the 2200 block of South Kostner Avenue about 10:45 p.m., according to Glen Brooks, a community policing director for the Chicago Police department who spoke at the scene.
Officers were responding to a person-with-a-gun call that was later updated to include information about shots being fired. Officers went down a gangway and encountered a man with a gun in the backyard, according to police, and an officer fired shots.
An AK-47 and a handgun were recovered at the scene...
So now we have "community policing directors" giving statements at the scene? When the hell did this happen? How much is this costing taxpayers?

There are so many no-counts involved in a police shooting it's making it very confusing not only to the public, but to officers. I don't think there are any PO's that would talk to these community activists but with what is coming on this job lately I wouldn't at all be surprised. I and my family are fortunate to have a retirement Area-4 Homicide Detective and an attorney who was a ASA for ten years. There are five family members that are concealed carry and both the Attorney and the Detective tell all of them not to talk to anyone in great detail, until they have an experienced Attorney to advise them in a shooting incident. They said to tell the PO and the Detective just the basic facts to justify the shooting and wait for your Attorney so you can be advised on stating the details of the incident. The police are bound by rules and regulations that the civilian is not. I only hope the department doesn't include anymore non police persons we have to be interviewed by when involved in a shooting.
Family to be interviewed later will claim husband was just shooting celebratory shots into the air for the upcoming 4th of July. Everyone does that in the ghetto says the family. What's the big deal. Then the police come and shoot him. He meant no harm. He was a good man. Hadn't been in jail recently. Got job sweeping out candy store. Lovey and Lovey walking up to the mics now.

And now they are quoting some community activist on the scene saying "the PO-lice should take control of the scene and recover the weapons, not shoot first and ask questions later". Ahhh, they did exactly that. But it appears one of your neighborhood grad students decided to level a GUN at the officers which caused him to be neutralized. THEN the officers were able to secure the crime scene and recover the weapons. Great job to the officers

When do the protests start? I don't understand why members of the Chicago PD are responding to calls about armed people when it is clear that those in charge along with the citizens will not support officers who put their lives on the line for them.

Historically, Directors have been exempt command positions, equal to Commander, but for non-field (support unit) commands. Most have been sworn, but have been some civilians too. Was this guy a sworn member, perhaps filling in as an acting street deputy, as other exempts have done in the past? If this was a civilian, then I agree, what the heck was he doing giving any type of statement?

Tim Heneghan couldn't win a election now as a dog catcher. He is running for Alderman against Naps but doesn't have a prayer even though O'Shea from 19 is helping him and Madigan will also. They will bus all kinds of assholes up here from the 19th Ward, but it won't work. Heneghan went against Mike McAuliffe who he grew up with and got trounced. Heneghan even lost his own precinct big. The old country Irish even hates Heneghan and the love Naps for everything he does against Rahm and for the Ward. After Heneghan loses the Aldermanic race, a member of a well known Police family in the Ward will probably run against this asshole for committman and that will be the end of the jagoff. He and Beth Ford in their do nothing positions. Civil CAPS deputy and director both driving department vehicles without licences for years, DUI, wrecks and continue to collect 6 figure salaries. She doesn'teven have the decency to clean up for a meeting. She shows up with unkempt hair and flip flops. At least act like your made up positions are meaningful. Additionally, she failed to report her accident and drove around in the damaged vehicle for over a year. He was DUI hit 3 parked vehicles, blew over the legal limit and said he was trying to avoid a pedestrian. I say rule 14. Cut them both. Heck, all 3. They're not needed. Over 400k with Brooks, Ford and Robinson. That could buy 10 new vehicles each year, 50 over the course of 5 years. The cars will last 8-10years. I think that's a more appropriate way to spend tax payer dollars and provide for officers.

This "activist" Eric Russell cracks me up. I had the pleasure of making his acquaintance when he showed up after a police shooting. I hadn't heard of him before, but I have noticed him in the news trolling around just about every police shooting since then. This guy is a complete fucking moron. Say what you will about Jesse and all the other revruns, at least they were able to fool a lot of the sheeple for a long time. Russell is sharp as a marble, completely unoriginal, and never comes around to making a point. I encourage everyone to let this guy keep running at the suck. Actually, they do. Before coming on the job I got laid off and went on unemployment. At my second visit to the state's unemployment office the woman there gave me a referral to a company looking to hire bookkeepers. I applied, got that job, and 2 years later got hired at CPD. That woman kept me feed and my rent paid.

At my second visit to the state's unemployment office the woman there gave me a referral to a company looking to hire bookkeepers. I applied, got that job, and 2 years later got hired at CPD. That woman kept me feed and my rent paid.

There is a program called the WIA program. It helped me and others who have the patience. It is a 8,000 dollar grant for any certification program you wish. It is a pain in the ass to get in because many people sign up but do not finish. It works and needs to be expanded.
Looks like this family will get paid after all. WTF. So now you can walk around with a AK 47, rifle, confront cops and get a ghetto payday? This is better then life insurance.
As a 39 year old African American male who is a law abiding, tax paying, productive resident of this once great city. I would like to apologize for the ignorance of my race. I am not a policeman, nor could I do the job of the men and women of the Chicago Police Department, even if they paid me a million dollars a year. A friend who is a policeman told me about this blog. Two of Ur officers come face to face with a man carrying an ak47 and another gun and he's shot dead,which he should be.(good riddens) But, the community isn't happy,now U no why U live in a war zone. Wake up African American communities. GOD BLESS the men and women of the CPD. Sorry for the constant push back from are under achieving communties.

Brother I feel your pain each and every day I read the paper. I will go one step further. A church that I once attended had a prison ministry. So they would parade the brothers who were locked up and the women would literally drool over their nice bodies and clean shaven faces. After service a few times I had a chat with some of these fine men. One admitted to me that the first time he had sex was with a man in jail. He was in jail for killing his friend, then hiding the body in a vat of acid. Another said he was framed for a triple murder. Another was a high level drug dealer but said he did nothing wrong, just hustling because there are no jobs out there. Sad thing is, life is full of choices. I have made a few, did time myself in County but learned you pay for that bullshit and nothing is worth your freedom. Bottom line is this, many young black men are urban terrorists. I cannot tell the difference walking down the street so how can a cop? And when confronted you have seconds to choose, this is not a videogame or TV.
Brian Doherty has been accused of a lot of things, but being a outfit wannabe is not one of them. As a matter of fact he is good at priorities and beer and fightning are on the top of his list. He hates Boyle and threw him out of his organization a long time ago. Frank Capuzi is a good guy, but is not involved in politics anymore. So get the story straight.

That's OLD! Communuty organizers in the district get's paid that amount, he's making 6 figures. I'm confused...are they risking their lives, being fired upon. Maybe they're being injured while breaking up domestics. Maybe that's why their making as much and in some case more than actual officers.
The article was silent about the victim's Ivy League University and chosen field of study.
fuck that guy that looks like George Forman knew all kinds on intricate details o f the death of that poor young girl on the 4400 block of deacon or wherever it was
