606 Still a Crime Magnet
- Armed thieves on The 606 have knocked people off their bikes to beat and rob them twice this weekend, and Chicago Police are warning users to watch out.
Three incidents this month on the trail, a former elevated railroad line, were the subject of a police alert Sunday evening. The robberies happened July 2 and then on Saturday and Sunday.
Police said the men knocked the victims from their bikes as they rode on The 606. "In the first two incidents, the victims suffered injuries when they fell off their bikes. In the latest incident, the offenders were armed with a small black handgun and the offenders beat the victim and demanded his belongings," police said in a new release.
Remember when there used to be "decoy missions" and armed robbers of pizza delivery drivers or snack delivery trucks used to end up air-conditioned?

The 606 has nothing on Downtown proper, multiple robberies night, after night, after night. If the public knew half of what happens in the center stone of this costume jewelry of a city they would run for the hills faster than they already are. Even with all the extra units and overtime initiative cops patrolling, the shit continues to happen. Tourists are flying in with passports and ID cards and flying out with VINs as their only form of identification. Sad, so sad what this city has become.
I hope Alderbum Maldonado knows how to get home and uses the trail next time he's out drunk with his kids at 2 in the am. Wicker Park and Bucktown residents should be up in arms at the amount (or lack of) police in that area. I didn't include Humboldt Park residents bc F' them, I'm sure the offenders are from section 8 housing in that area.
So how many millions did taxpayers pay for the 606 and this is what it brings? Should have left it a railroad route, no crime then. Millions so bikers and walkers. So what was wrong with walking on the city sidewalks and biking on the city street bike lanes? Lets see what other projects they can come up with to enrich the companies that fund the Democratic Party and plunge the City into even more debt.

The 606 extends two blocks in to 025. What are the bike units doing? They have never patrolled the 606 or the area around 606. Give the gentrifying parts of 025 quality police service.
P.S. As a citizen I know the above because I have friends in 025.

Oh man! I got 606'd last night! Dude hit me upside the head with a gun, then drove away on the bike I stole last week! That trail be dangerous.
Not to worry. The plan is to install restrooms on the 606 so the bikers won't need to worry about getting knocked off their bikes anymore. Though taking a leak might be problematic.

Who is going to do the "Decoy and stakeout missions". Merit boy patrolmen are not the police. Too whipped. Merit boy supervisors too stupid. Never worked the street, never worked at night, but they will give you a computer model showing where the problem is. How about the news telling the public that the offenders are "Black" god forbid.
Why can't we have units from our own 606 unit do patrols there. That way we can Beat 606 patrol and write reports.

I getting in the habit of carrying everywhere; Riding my bike, cutting the grass, dumping the garbage, even when going to church on Sunday. I have a gun in two places in my apartment, back my car into my garage, sit with my back to the wall in a restaurant, keep a space of about a half car length when stopped in traffic. I think and do many other things nowadays to stay safe and try to be prepared. The funny thing, my roommate said I'm thinking more and more like a gunfighter.

I think what is proposed in the last paragraph would be considered unfair and entrapment. Some of the air conditioned folks may have just been funning or playing a harmless prank.
Since the promotion of biking started with ShortShanks, why don't we form the nucleus of a decoy team with removing the bodyguards from Daley as well as the two city owned SUV's? We had a meeting about it just this morning. Our members are quite enthused about new spots for their activities on the 606 Trail. Crime proposals are to be submitted and a vote will be taken for the best proposal. Then by the end of the week we should have a plan of action going forward and a solid date for you. As of now, early September is looking good for our members. Also, some of the members mentioned a concern about the armed retired guys using the trail. The retired guys will definitely have a sudden impact on our member's usage and we request a schedule of their visits so we can work around them. An armed victim or an armed retired cop are our biggest concerns. As always, happy trailing on the 606!
