Another Parolee

  • A 29-year-old West Side man, on parole for robbery, has been charged with having a loaded AK-47 assault rifle at the Belmont Red Line station yesterday morning.

CWBChicago was first to report the details of Saturday’s arrest.

Jordan Watkins was arrested around 6:30 a.m. after a witness reported seeing a man with a large gun on the southbound platform. Arriving officers found Watkins with the Kalashnikov strapped around his neck, a police source said.

He is charged with one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and one felony count of being an armed habitual criminal.
And his record doesn't instill confidence that any sort of justice operates in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois:
  • State records show that he was sentenced to six years in prison for armed robbery and one year for narcotics in 2013. He has been free on parole since last August.

Before that, he was sentenced to 2-1/2 years for narcotics in 2008 and three years for possession of a stolen motor vehicle in 2007.
Seems like he ought to still be in jail for a few of those offenses.

I am sure he was taking the rifle to a celebration of life, and to help his fellow man turn his life around.

Like it matters. When it comes right down to it Kimmie and Tommy aren't going to do a thing about. Looks like Preckwinkle is getting exactly what she wanted.

Jordan Watkins was just trying to protect passengers on public transit from being robbed since citizens who ride the public transit system are not allowed to carry a concealed weapon.

Dart would label him as an occasional offender
and recommend psychological counseling paid
for by the bankrupt state of Ill.
You know the public sector has more sense than
the legal system. Although Dart might say this man
could be a lawyer in the future, he would be rejected
by every Law School in the nation.

Maybe it is time for ATF and those CPD officers who honorably serve on one of those mysterious "Task Force" details to step up to the plate and pursue federal like charges. Parole, violent offense convictions, a weapon on federally subsidized mass transit system, a weapon of mass destruction on critical homeland infrastructure are a few angles to pursue.

Send a powerful message to Kimesha Foxxx of no confidence in her ability to keep the citizens safe from these violent, predatory recidivist criminals. And by the way, smart Tom Dart don't you dare release this fool on the controversial electronic monitoring detention alternative scam.

Hey Kim Fox and Tom Dart, follow the President's call for action in Chicago's War on Murder, Violence and Mayhem. Repeat after me Kimmie and Tommie, Lets Keep America Safe Again.

Is this the type of poor, non-violent offender Mr. Eric Holder thinks should not have to post bail because it targets the poor or is racist or some shit like that?

Cook CountyBoard President Toni Prekwinkle, Cook County democrat States Attorney Kim Foxxx and Cook County elected democrat Sheriff Tom Dart all advocate the immediate release on bond and the early release of those sentenced to save taxpayer dollars. I understand this should still be in custody criminal had lots of ammunition.

What would the cost be if this fool opened up his weapon killing and wounded many in an Al Quaida replicated type domestic terrorist act? Given the enormous costs associated with gun violence, is it not cheaper to keep this would be domestic terrorist locked up given his propensity to commit further acts of violence?

Thank God nothing happened. Would Prekwinkle, Dart, Foxxx, other elected officials advocating early release and members of the parole board be able to face grieving families and explain why an animal with a violent resume was released only to slaughter innocent people? What price does one place on the emotional toll on grieving family members left behind? Are these incarceration costs more than all the carnage an early releasee could potentially commit? Where are the judges who impose stiff sentences calling out the parole board for not ensuring the criminal sentences are carried out? We rarely hear elected judges publically address this problem?

Great work by the arresting officers creeping up on him. It could have been a bloodbath if they'd just nonchalantly walked up and said "What's up?" He had the thing slug over his shoulder ready to swing up and shoot.

Parole is, literally, nothing more than a revenue preserving get out of jail free card created to, well, preserve revenue. That said, I always love how people are charged with unlawful USE when all they actually did was POSSESS.

Lets be real for a minute, shall we? Can you possess a pencil but not use it? Of course you can. A gun, any gun, is no different. Maybe if Illinois Gun Control wasn't so STUPID as to try to make synonyms out of words that are are not synonmyms, maybe more actually offenders would actually face real charges that would keep them in real prison for real sentences.

Folks, we can not fix the problems if we do not have the courage to admit what the problems are. Ironically, this is a demonstration of what gun free zones produce -places where lawful people are defenseless and one criminal disregarding the law is viewed as (and actually is) a menace who could kill dozens of people unopposed.

Gun Free Zones only disarm those who would do battle against the criminal element.
Cops enforce that madness, and wonder why people are pissed off? Really? There are more problems than just the get out of jail free cards, there is a problem on the arrest side of things also (arresting people for no more than exercise of a enumerated right). Let's have the courage to admit it, so we can fix it!

You will love this one....the officers who made the arrest on this guy could NOT get felony charges until felony review saw the security video released by cta! Plus the offender admitted to officers that he wanted to die by police shooting him! (suicide by cop) Be careful out there!!!

The rifle cast its evil power over him and made him do it. I've seen this before with AKs, ARs and other similar assault rifles. after that thing flips up, it's over and the person is under the rifle's spell!

First, robbery isn't a crime of violence according to Foxxx, so as a "non-violent offender" he shouldn't be detained anywhere for any time.

Second, maybe he was turning his life around and on his way to interview for a sales job at the Kalashnikov Company. Ever think of that?

You people are full of negative energy and cynicism.

He should be prosecuted under federal statutes and not under state law. ATF should have handled this and he should be in MCC awaiting federal charges and doing federal time in Kansas after his conviction. In Cook County, he will receive and serve short time and will read more about this jag off in a few years if not sooner. The justice system in Cook County is historically now ineffective at reducing crime and keeping people safe from repeat offenders.
