No Word on the Guns

  • A 17-year-old boy was arrested in the theft of an FBI -issued SUV that an FBI agent had left running at a Near West Side gas station early Monday, Chicago police said Tuesday evening.

The teen, whose name has not been released, was charged as a juvenile with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated battery to a government employee and vehicular hijacking, according to police.
Those are some pretty steep charges for jumping into a running vehicle. What haven't we heard about this story?
  • Authorities at that point hadn't searched inside the vehicle to see if any of the weapons were still inside. Instead, officers called for a tow truck to take it to be processed. Another vehicle was found earlier in the day with some of the gear inside, an official said.
So the vests turned up, but not a single comment on the guns. That tells everyone a lot.

I believe the vests may have shown up in a recovered dodge challenger in 011 in the afternoon. The challenger was used in a shooting and located. The challenger was also stolen. No heads in the challenger but it was processed. What you wanna guess that if the challenger is related to the agents SUV that the guns were used in that shooting.... funny how that part is so quiet.

But do you trust the source?

News said earlier today none of the guns were taken. Guess they were locked up in the vehicle.... FBI must not have the same carbine holders as Chicago or those guns would of been long gone!

Would hate to be in the guy's shoe right now but having sensitive items stolen is no honest mistake. This is negligence at the highest level due to LAZINESS. We aren't talking about nightvision goggles here.

Talked to a fed. All the guns were still in the car, in a lock box, except for a compact Glock in the glove box that the bad guy has.

there was a YETI cooler aboard. No word

Why was he charged with aggravated battery? Did the 17 year old beat the shit out of the FBI agent? If he did, my prayers for a full recovery. Not making fun of the situation. Some 17 year olds from the ghetto are huge and athletic.

17 year old was charged with "aggravated battery to a government employee". Are these city charges? The FBI agent is not a city employee. So there was a struggle? Why isn't the thief charged with assault on a federal agent? Until that agent gets that vehicle home form work, he is on duty and the teen can be charged federally, Something does not make sense here. I think the FBI agent was outside the scope of his employment and using his government vehicle "off duty" to go out "bouncing" (bar hopping).

Years ago, the feds were embarrassed when they had some valuable radio equipment stolen, they pulled out all the stops, asked a lot of favors from us and got the equipment back. At that time, they were going to install a tracing system in the cars and other equipment. I guess they had their budget cut or diverted.

Let's beat up the FBI agent when he was the victim of a crime!

Yeah, he screwed up. He knows he screwed up and he's constantly reminded he screwed up, he will have to pay for his screw up. It's not like no one at CPD hasn't ever screwed up, is it?
Like it or not, he's on the same side as you are and I can almost guarantee he will never make that mistake again. Put the blame where it belongs, on a 17 year old thief.

I'm still troubled by the charges. Aggravated battery for auto theft? Shit like this is why charges never hold up in court. Its like someone was picking the charges out of a hat. Bullshit. I'm not surprised about no mention of the guns. Have you ever wondered how so many guns end up in these terrible neighborhoods?

WASHINGTON – A burglar broke into an FBI vehicle and stole weapons – including a .40 caliber Glock-22 handgun and a Rock River Arms Rifle – hours before DNC staffer Seth Rich was shot multiple times just two miles north of the weapons theft.

Now a private investigator is suing the Metropolitan Police Department for ballistics reports that would reveal whether the two crimes, both of which took place in the early hours of July 10, 2016, are in any way connected.

“Our investigators have learned that one hour on the morning of July 12, one hour before the murder of Seth Rich, there was an FBI SUV in the vicinity … of the shooting of Seth Rich. Two guns were stolen from that SUV one hour before the killing of Seth – a 22 Glock and an M4 rifle,” said Jack Burkman, the head of the Profiling Project investigative team, which is seeking video footage of the shooting, the medical examiner’s report, autopsy documents and ballistics reports.

Just look at the charges, it sounds like a 17yr. old beat the fuck out of an FBI agent. Or did the Fed get struck by a vehicle that's not a dangerous weapon. I've never understood how the FBI gets away with their BS and secretly hiding the facts. Just look at the FBI sniper that shot the rancher, they covered that one up until the truth surfaced and he got indicted.

yes, an honest mistake, for a civilian that is. But someone who has law enforcement experience? hardly. I told my kids from early on, never to use a gas station after dark, but if you must, never leave it running and never leave any valuables on the seat, and if possible lock the car. thieves hang around gas stations at night, not only in the city but in many suburbs. Some want to intimidate you to pay them to pump your gas or wash your windshield, some are looking to steal a purse left on the seat and some want to rob you. This guy should have known better.

Having been a TFO I can assure that the FBI is probably up on Title III intercepts on the perpetrators of this crime. Trust me they will end up being arrested and prosecuted in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. These guys have truly screwed up as they are looking at serious federal time. The FBI almost never loses at trial. Wow I wish I could be in on the action instead of pushing this beat car in 008. I can assure you those guns are well on the way to being recovered and this case may even tie into a much larger investigation reaching beyond Illinois. Anyway be safe out there.
