Party is Over?

  • Authorities have moved to shut down 17 bus companies for violating a new city ordinance aimed at ending violence stemming from illegal party bus activity.

Chicago Police partnered with the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection last week for a three-day field investigation to identify companies lacking proper licenses, vehicle signs, security cameras and guards.

Under the ordinance passed in April, party buses must have a licensed security guard on board if there are more than 15 passengers and if there is alcohol on the bus or the bus plans to make "interim stops" at bars, clubs or other places where alcohol would be consumed.

Bus owners are also required to take "affirmative steps" to ensure passengers aren't illegally carrying firearms or drugs.
Why these 17 companies?
  • There are about 340 licensed charter bus companies in the city, according to business affairs Commissioner Rosa Escareno.
Five percent? We'd say there's a long way to go. [UPDATE- math corrected]

The seventeen were probably just the really stupid ones that didn't even have the proper signs or licenses, and were behind on their "payments."

Affirmative steps? Granted, some of the customers _are_ criminals, but who wants to spend money to be treated like one?

Are they going to have the CPD enforce the rules during the party runs?
That would be interesting?
If by interesting, I meant a full blown riot by drunken partiers when they get the bad news.

But it looks like they are doing something.

Gotta make those inspections in time for football season
and levy those fines so we got money to pay the inspectors
to inspect the remaining 320 busses
What do you call alcohol on a bus?
A rolling speak easy. Nothing changes. What about gambling?
Are bets made on a bus in transit considered a moving violation?
15 passengers, 1 security guard, 1 driver, alcohol and drugs on board.
Sounds like a formula for disaster.
But those medallions bring in a lot of money. Uber can't do this.
We don't want no competition.

Sounds racist. Going after the buses used by young African/Americans out for a party ride.

I was just thinking of opening up a "gangsta" bus tour of the West side, and the South side. In the spirit of things we would serve Malt liquor, and pass out appropriate baseball hats so we don't misrepresent. We would stop at neighborhood liquor stores and observe the shoplifting that goes on. The Bus would have bullet proof glass and bars on the windows. We would broadcast Police scanner communication for "Realism" and respond to shooting scenes. Maybe we could get an old Cook County Sherriff's prisoner bus. They don't need them anymore.

I believe this would fly in this crazy city. Any shark investors out there?

Can't we arrange for some carbon monoxide leaks in those buses?

(I kid, I kid)

I'm no traffic nazi, but aren't those buses second division vehicles? A second division vehicle can be stopped for inspection anytime, right? Traffic gurus, chime in.

I think these are the party companies. The rest are charter transit and school bus companies

03:48:00 AM said Uber can't do this. Why not? If it's legal to take one person for a ride in my new bus, why can't I take 15?

Who cares, this city is fucked and 17 bus companies not paying their license fees is nothing; like the asshole Mayor.

SO why doesn't this apply to the L?
One guard per car, right? There are frequent stops, and lots of riders have done been to the bars nearby. Add to it the reality that we have witnessed criminals carrying RIFLES aboard, so what affirmative steps are required? Officially prohibiting carry altogether? Is that the demand, in not so many words?

People are talking about the 17 not making their "payments" cough cough or not being owned by certain creatures or their spawn, which make sense but what if it is more simple than that? What if it is just that these 17 particular companies don't post gun control signs, you know free fire zone notifications called little white background, black pistol, red circle with a strike line through it stickers?

Could it be that these 17 are the only ones that don't "prohibit guns" and THAT is why they were targeted? Do all the others post no guns signs? Seems easy enough to check as a matter of policy, right? Those 17 should do so, because if THAT is why they were targeted while the rest were not, they would certainly have a case to be made for violation of right under the color of law.

It was determined 17 companies were non-donating entities.
Shakedowns efforts are forthcoming and at least 15 will be back in service and available for that next special occasion par-tay.

Chicago Values its lively traveling community vibe.

No Guns on the buses?

Sounds like a great way for a smart gang to "reduce their competition."
Hear about the party bus, find the schedule.
Meet them at the end of the night with a few AKs.
Make the Chicago Saint Valentines Day Massacre live again.

Of course, knowing the brains of the average Chicago gang, they would shoot up a Bus full of Seniors coming home from the Wisconsin Casinos.
