Watch closely as this Officer begins to pursue, then realizes there just isn't any way in Hell he is going to catch, let alone stop, the Dodge Charger traveling at over 100 mph:
The officer wisely shuts off all his equipment, notifies dispatch of the last known direction, and let's them know he'll be traveling along to properly document the aftermath of any bad decisions. Lo and behold, he comes across the Charger, fully engulfed in flames with all five occupants dead.
The usual rumors started up that the police must have been chasing, that the police caused the wreck, that the police were totally in the wrong.
But sometimes, the camera can be your friend.....like this time. You are a report taker, there to document human stupidity.

Cop did the right thing. No reason to make a bad situation worse. There's no Chase worth getting some innocent person killed.

No chase equates to the family not getting paid. I have confidence a lawyer can raise an arguement of past police practices to make some quick cash money from the involved law enforcement agency. The urban kids commit the crimes, violate the laws and risk their lives while the legal professionals cash in. Grieving families on t.v. make good optics for larger settlements.
I'm quite sure Siegal the legal-legal can find some court tested angle to provide cash justice for the up and coming speedway drivers's kinfolk. Who can be held accountable to make this profitable?

Cops get sued all the time when they take someone into custody and the shrinks at county hospital cut them loose.
It is street code for an insane person.
Even though everyone and their mother has been warned about pursuit policy, there is no shortage of idiots on the radio screaming bloody murder with lights and sirens for a car that didn't stop after a stupid traffic violation. Chances are they are dirty as hell and thats why they didn't stop, but unless you can prove it, the only probable cause you have is a minor traffic offense. The ONLY reason to pursue anything (foot or car) would be for someone who just committed murder or someone who tried to shoot you or your partner. All else, report, condolences, and good bye. Maybe in another life time we could go back to chasing criminals when they were the bad guys and actually accountable for all their wrong doings and suing the police for doing their job was unheard of. Until then ......

Just fyi, CPD requires an officer to pull over once a chase has been terminated. There is a black box in squad card, IAD and the traffic unit comes out to read that black box. Also cameras, not just the ones in your car, are checked, and GPS. It's not worth it. I hope they don't fault this copper .

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office identified those killed as Deztanee Cobb, Marshawn Williams, Cortavion Murphy,(driver) and Jaquarious Hegler + one more teen who's name wasn't released. Look at the pictures on the WWMT website. Figure the upper left one had to have his left hand covered by the other picture because it either had a gun it, or had those 'crippled' fingers.

by a 1st generation (1966 - 1970) Charger...
Either that or fool just asked way too
much of the car and his skill set.
When physics took control, this driver
was magically transformed into a crying and shitting
passenger given these circumstances.
It looks like he had the two right
wheels in the grass which facilitated the skid.
Oh well...
