$4 a Call?

We suppose that's one way to drive crime down.

Rahm's latest tax includes a provision to increase the 911 "fee" to $4 per call.

If it's too expensive to report crime, we imagine crime will go "down."

It's so twistedly brilliant.

Amen. Hell, I finally agree with the little man. In fact, make it 10 dollars a call. That way when mama calls 10 times a day because her baby won't go to school it will cost her 100 per day. Maybe she will get the hint and stop calling. I also like chris rocks idea of making a round of ammunition expensive. Charge 20 dollars per round and they will think twice before spraying 30-50 rounds at a shooting scene.

(OT) you wonder why coppers keep working when they can retire another reason we need to get out when you can:

Americans Are Retiring Later, Dying Sooner and Sicker In-Between

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-10-23/americans-are-retiring-later-dying-sooner-and-sicker-in-between

Excerpt:Americans in their late 50s already have more serious health problems than people at the same ages did 10 to 15 years ago, according to the journal Health Affairs.

University of Michigan economists HwaJung Choi and Robert Schoeni used survey data to compare middle-age Americans’ health. A key measure is whether people have trouble with an “activity of daily living,” or ADL, such as walking across a room, dressing and bathing themselves, eating, or getting in or out of bed. The study showed the number of middle-age Americans with ADL limitations has jumped: 12.5 percent of Americans at the current retirement age of 66 had an ADL limitation in their late 50s, up from 8.8 percent for people with a retirement age of 65.

At the current retirement age of 66, a quarter of Americans age 58 to 60 rated themselves in “poor” or “fair” health. That’s up 2.6 points from the group who could retire with full benefits at 65, the Michigan researchers found.

Cognitive skills have also declined over time. For those with a retirement age of 66, 11 percent already had some kind of dementia or other cognitive decline at age 58 to 60, according to the study. That’s up from 9.5 percent of Americans just a few years older, with a retirement age between 65 and 66.

While death rates can be volatile from year to year, Choi and Schoeni’s study is part of a raft of other research showing the health of Americans deteriorating.

Researchers have offered many theories for why Americans’ health is getting worse. Princeton University economists Anne Case and Angus Deaton, a Nobel Prize winner, have argued that an epidemic of suicide, drug overdoses and alcohol abuse have caused a spike in death rates among middle-age whites.

It's a tax on every phone number that is registered in the city (Landline and Wireless). Was about $3.90 a month per phone and the beginning of 2018 it will be $5.00 a month per phone. I say phone but it is really each number. If you have a landline with four numbers you will be taxed on each number. I have no landline but have a family plan with six phones and a separate number for my tablet so it will cost me $35.00 a month for the "911" tax.

This would only apply to phones with Chicago addresses, right?

Go paperless billing and change your address to a relative living out of the city limits.

I did it months ago when rumors started flying about an increase to $5.00 a month from the already $3.90 911 charge per month PER LINE and it's worked out great. And sure enough the city is increasing it to $5.00 per month PER LINE. You have the wife and 2 kids on the account that's $20.00 a month, or $240.00 A YEAR in savings!

It took all of 2-3 minutes to do on line with my account. And I still keep the city public-safety employee discount too. The bill gets emailed to you instead of sent snail mail.

Wise up people. You don't shop for gas, water or pop in Chicago anymore right? Why continue to register your phone here?

That's $39 per call to date with another $7.80 due by December.
Try and figure out what's the "Municipal Telecommunications Tax" ($2.93) and the "State/Municipal Telecommunications Tax" (also $2.93).
Idiots at AT$T don't know nuttin other than its a municipal tax. Wow.

As a stop gap measure Citywide OT initiative will be put in place until the airports are both completely staffed. The present Aviation Officers unfortunately will be disbanded but will get the first shot at being rehired at a considerably lower pay rate. The Mayor was finally convinced the only thing that could prevent a disaster is to have a large armed CPD presence. The wake up call was US Special Forces troops in Raqqa Syria found mock ups for multiple airports in the world with O'Hare being one. Hopefully we dodged a bullet!

23 Oct @2:29 hrs - Thank you! There is an operator on Zone 2 who butchers the English language to no end. A man with a gun call becomes a guuunnn call. It gets dangerous when she confuses Cornelia with Cornell. For you younger offices, Cornell is on da sout side. Thank God that Goethe is a small street since she would have a hard time with it. When she worked Zone 5, Prairie Ave. became Pa-reh-ree. Another CPS graduate that Clayfool can be proud of! Another dispatcher who will be promoted by the ghost OEMC Director. But our beautiful 911 center has a Carrera marble facade, straight from Italy, which actually had a marble sheet come loose and shatter. The bosses received marble paperweights when the broken marble was salvaged. The center is flawed from the get go and the staff is just as substandard.

Hope our so called union is up to this, look at all the billions rahm and the rest have "discovered" but yet rahm viciously removed police retirees health care, come on lets look inside:

Can Chicago handle an influx of hurricane-weary Puerto Ricans?

https://chicago.suntimes.com/chicago-politics/chicago-puerto-rico-hurricane-evacuees/

Excerpt:The number of evacuees in the city isn’t completely clear. Alicia Tate-Nadeau, director of the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications, said at least 1,600 have passed through O’Hare Airport — a number that comes from the Department of Aviation, which keeps track of humanitarian flights from disaster zones.

The influx of Puerto Ricans has been slow, and the city still has enough resources to help others, Tate-Nadeau said. Plans started before Hurricane Maria hit, with potential housing choices including Airbnb rentals.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Oh boy treasurer hunter rahm and the pathetic 50 finding more money and pandering buying illegal votes?

Ald. Proco “Joe” Moreno (1st) said he took an inventory of available housing in his West Side ward and talked to developers about offering 116 units, ranging from studios to two-bedrooms.

He and Ald. Roberto Maldonado (26th) both talked about working with the Chicago Housing Authority to make sure Section 8 voucher holders could transfer rent subsidies they’d had in Puerto Rico to Chicago.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Whats this section 8 there transferred to here? Hmm more loafers that taxpayers will be forced to subsidize!

Hmm lets look in this neighborhood rahm and crew finding billions for a company where the owner jeff bezos personal wealth is minimum 81 billion right behind microsoft founder bill gates!

Chicago’s Amazon bid includes $2.25 billion incentive package

https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/chicagos-amazon-bid-includes-2-25-billion-incentive-package/

Excerpt:
Roughly $1.4 billion in state EDGE tax credits. The newly-revised program provides a 50 percent tax break for every job they create in Illinois.
$60 million in property tax breaks through the city and county programs known as Class 7B and 7C.
$450 million in site-specific infrastructure improvements that would come from the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Chicago Department of Transportation, the CTA and other agencies.
$250 million worth of investments in education, workforce development and “Neighborhood Opportunity Funds” to make certain that all Chicagoans can qualify for the 50,000 high-end Amazon jobs and that businesses that spring up or move here to support Amazon locate in Chicago neighborhoods.
Free land worth $100 million, if Amazon chooses to build its second headquarters at the old Michael Reese Hospital site purchased by former Mayor Richard M. Daley as the site for an Olympics Chicago didn’t get. If Amazon chooses either to re-purpose or demolish and rebuild the Thompson Center that the state has been trying desperately to sell, the free land would be worth even more money.

Rahm is better that the old "I dream of Jeannie" show, wonder does he dress up in the uniform and kazam billions found!!

God bless the police!!!!

Who cares. The city is dying a slow death at the hands of greedy criminal self serving politicians. Won't be far down the road that Chicago will be bankrupt along with Crook County and the state of Illinois. Raccoon Eyes keeps borrowing $Billions that can't ever be paid back. And we stood by and let it happen.

It's an increase on cell phone bills for a total of $4 per phone per month. . So a family of 4 pays $16 a month or $192 a year. They're seriously going to tax is to death.

I put my cell phone address in another state. I also use prepaid plan. No tax very simple.
if you have
ATT
verizon
sprint

It can be done just change your address online with the company. Or you can pay almost 10 dollars per cell phone on your family plan.

It is the same thing corporations do to avoid city stickers.

Cut the land line too if that hurricane ever hits your landline will be down too!

what a brillig idea...on top of the $4 a month 911 "fee" just charge all Chicongoan's except the sub-saharan political pet group $1 "fee" per outgoing cell phone call or out-going text. Force the various phone companies to bill for it & collect it (unless it's an obama phone or any african fone) & remit to city/county Treasury once per month...So as not to force the phone companies into involuntary servitude maybe give them 1% or 1/2% of the collection for serving as tax collectors...There are so many gov't fee's & charges on phone bills already that gov't at all levels has this already worked out so it should be a very smooth operation from a very smooth operator, 9.5 & crew

Just checked my Verizon bill for me and hubby's phones
Illinois Telecom Svc Fee. .08
Chgo city 911 Fee. 7.80
Illinois Telecom excise tax. 3.08
Illinois sales tax. 1.44
Chgo MTT. 3.08
Cook Cnty Sales tax. .40
Cook Cnty RTA tax. .23
Norridge sales tax. .29

Since I am paying monthly for the newer phone I got a few months ago, those are the sales taxes, total I pay MONTHLY on taxes and government fees comes to a whopping $16.40. What a crock......

10/23/2017 08:48:00 AM

I have Verizon also. I also have property out of state. I have the phones registered to that address. Don't fall for that 18 percent city of Chicago discount. Its only on the plan, nothing else. Sounds good but really useless. If you can register you phones out of state.

Guys, for the love of God, this is a monthly charge that you pay not a per call basis. As long as you have a land line or cell phone this charge will appear. If you have a family plan that charge is per number on the plan. Using an old phone does not take the charge away from you.

Agreed. it sure wasn't because the mayor was 'finally convinced' about terrorism. More likely, he was convinced to buy McCarthy off and get him out of the race by giving him with the security contract. The security contract is one HELL of a lot more lucrative than being mayor.

Pension will be there. 2 or so years ago the passed the pension funding law requiring the city get the pension to 90% funded by 2045. City initially put in almost 500 million and has been putting in required payments every year. Payments are made from property tax levies and papers had an article today saying in 2018 and 2019 property taxes will be increased because of these required payments
As far as how many show up, if 4000 don't that's still 10000 that will. City has been lowering requirements, they can get 800-900 recruits to replace retirees and add part of the 1000 Rahm promised
