This one has been percolating for a while. It's popping up again and this time, some of hte details are being fleshed out:
- Looks like McCarthys run for Mayor has paid off for him, the chatter from City Hall is McCarthy/Simon will finally get a HUGE security contract at both airports that will employ both unarmed security guards and armed off duty P.O.'S.
Expect massive staffing changes at O'Hare as well in a panicked attempt to meet recommendations brought by an outside Israeli security expert who was flabbergasted by the lack of manpower in one of the worlds busiest airports and a massive expansion of O'Hare.
As a stop gap measure Citywide OT initiative will be put in place until the airports are both completely staffed. The present Aviation Officers unfortunately will be disbanded but will get the first shot at being rehired at a considerably lower pay rate.
The Mayor was finally convinced the only thing that could prevent a disaster is to have a large armed CPD presence. The wake up call was US Special Forces troops in Raqqa Syria found mock ups for multiple airports in the world with O'Hare being one. Hopefully we dodged a bullet!
So Airport VRI as a stop-gap? Does Ferguson know about this or is he busy writing another letter to the editor decrying overtime and the lack of a crime fighting plan by the people he refused to hold accountable for cheating their way into six-figure jobs/pensions?

It is quite frightening how very few police officers are working at Ohare. But when the city slashed the hiring for 12 years where do you get the officers to staff Ohare? The entire city is short handed. Ohare should have more officers and officers patrolling with rifles too.

Working the airport we used to laugh at the security because what else could you do? Its a clout unit so if you think anyone gives a damn what you think then think again. 50% , at least, are there on juice. I suspect 50% is a starting point however.
Once the Tac team was in a garage looking for a guy with an AK and they have their rifles out, naturally. A TV crew televised them and a call came from downtown to put the rifles away. So now because of MR. NY and the Israeli its all going on the up and up eh? If thats even close to being real they should re-hire, as an adviser, the guy who ran the O'hare Tactical training we would do once a month. At the very least let him keep that going because we were into some very advanced shit, as advanced as you can get in a shitty little indoor range. Guys who weren't any good starting getting good and guys who were good got better. Most of all they started learning how to operate as a team under the stress of fire in squad scenarios. Confidence shot way up.
So call this trainer, who is retired now, and hire him back to work with the 050 unit again and MAKE THEM go to training, and not just the Tac teams. Because its really bad there and nobody gives a shit, tho it does re-assure me the enemy is so fucking stupid that they havn't even seen it yet. Or at least acted on it.

The duties that AVPD are responsible for can be handled by a $15 hr. civilian (unaccredited) that's a fact.
Should it go in that direction, I believe there would/will be a drastic drop in reliability, dependability and mostly integrity.
Since AVOD weren't given or ever had Police powers then why are they at the Airports?
Given the fact they all know the airport geography, it seems they will be a valuable asset should Rahm have to pull the plug on Mauer's AVPD.
Can't see any VRI for district personnel, there's not much they know about the airports besides standing around and that's what TSA has been doing since that type of OT was eliminated over 7 yrs ago.
The current undermanned CPD contingent is plenty good at that (not counting paper shuffler office staff) and seems to have worked out fine to date.
Pehaps then it could be the DHS, TSA, FBI, FAA may all have an upper hand in some sort of "takeover" of airport security and that current CPD Units could still remain to handle the day in-day out crimes from trespassing to thefts, drunks, lost stuff and traffic.
If left up to incompetents Rahm and Ginger, they'd continue to fleece the taxpayer with a scant armed and a bloated unarmed security sham at the Ecomonice Engine known as Ohare Airport*, since the airlines are being forced into spending money on more terminal expansion with a dismal outlook on flight operations, especially a volatile United Continental (*pardon that digression).

When mccarthy became super he was shocked to find out Mass transit had less then 120 po s compared to N.Y. 4000. 4000 must be the magic number since that is how down we are to the supposed 12,500 mark. Liar city keeps saying down only 800 yet every district is around 200 to the 330 that was in the 90 s. No body wants this job in the big classes of 1990 will retire after next year. BUT HEY, THE CITY PROMISED TO HIRE 1000 even though that many will retire by the end of next year. Everyone who travels can see ohare is so unsecured compared to other airports.

All aviation personel got fitted for uniforms last week. Apparently over $800 was spent on each employee. Wonder who got that contract? But would they spend that kind of money then dump the unit few months later? Who's going to man all the outposts? O'Hare is a small city 30,000 employees work out there and someone has to monitor their access. Cpd isn't going to sit there and process O'Hare employees. Shit head guards aren't gonna cut it. There has to be a middle ground.

These kids were a good source of recruits for ours and other departments.
050 will have to get another 100 patrol spots to make up for this, plus increase the other security. Granted, this has been long neglected due to the democrats stealing everything they could. Oh yeah, they will only lay off the officers, the brass will stay. Same thing happened when they laid off all the greeters at the airport, all the union employees got the ax, the bosses stayed and got a raise! Never heard the union complain either.

the feds aren't paying for shit at the airports, every penny comes from the airlines, that's why the department of Aviation has it's own budget separate from the city. And thanks to Mayor Daley, the city doesn't even get a cut of the parking garage. And unless the city can grease the FAA, the federal law states the airports must be manned by Sworn officers, not security and that's the while reason. the Aviation guys go through the academy and take the state test.
Violent crime is on the rise in all areas of the city, but the airports are where these "well trained" CPD Officers should be utilized.

The answer is no one is in custody. CPD' investigation by the dick' turned to shit everywhere it went. Rumor was someone was feeding info to Stein' crew. Ben was a made guy and Simon was alleged to of taken care of Ben' old gal friend. The dick' knew it and Simon played nice and then shut down. I think Simon was still otj when this happened. Simon was a cowboy in his younger days, ask around, He was a Grand ave hot headed J.O who Stein mentored all the way.
I would suspect the old paper files in storage had a major flood and few after the woman was no more. At that time, if you had a pager you were high tec. GOCR and IR photos took a trip to the old headquarters if you wanted a report and did not want to wait 2 weeks. Old SCC will sustain this fact how antiqued CPD was in the 1980'.
Stein is in hell now and little Satan Simon is 70 yoa now and using the idiot from NYC. McCarthy thinks the game is the same as in NYC was! O.C is low key all the way in Chicago. All the old money was invested into legit businesses.
Simon is sharp, he evaded the FBI for years. If shit ever hit' the fan, McCarthy will take the fall. Let us all hope they both take a fall by the G. Gerardo, graduating a police academy does not make one a police officer. It merely means that you completed the coursework required by the state of Illinois to qualify for employment as such. You must receive a sworn commission from a department. So despite all of your Facebook photos of you wearing an aviation security uniform that says “Police”, as has been stated time and again the aviation security officers were not and are not police as a result of your employment with the Department of Aviation. You may be part time police somewhere else, and that’s all well and good. Seek full time employment with a municipal, county, or state agency if you want to be full time police. It isn’t happening at the DOA.

Yes, it does hurt me as a cop. You see, I applied myself and made sacrifices and worked hard to gain full time employment as a police officer. I didn’t have an alderman with a phone call. So I give a crap. Because I have earned it. That’s why I’m not a security guard.
And they can go ahead and tell people they are neurosurgeons, as you suggest. But they better not tell people they are police, because that’s a crime. And seeing as they were ordered to remove all pollce insignia from their uniforms and security vehicles and an abundance of city hearings, memos, and orders advised them that they are not sworn law enforcement officers, calling themselves police could get them locked up.

Yeah that little certification diploma is about as legit as your grammar school diploma. Stop thinking hanging it on your wall make you the "real Police" of the fact you occasionally direct traffic in some small suburb. "Experience" is what makes you the police. "Experience" would have prevented those 3 guys from Losing their jobs dragging the Oxy dealing cocksucker off the United airplane.
That said it would be a mistake to disband Aviation. I think its a mistake not to arm them too. Yes I know they have some silly screwed up officers but what Dept. doesn't? Tho I have to admit it would be funny to see a few of their Delta squad assholes who used to laugh at CPD running around in their new wardrobe. WTF do you expect when you go under cover in this city and get CNN to chase your Boss around HIS building? I hope this bunch has finally figured out CPD officers have nothing to do with their predicament.
They are mostly good guys. Nobody should want to see them out of work, or working for 1/2 pay.

What is Maureen Joyce's function at Midway? To many high paying jobs with little or nothing to do at MDW. ORD is "bigger" then MDW and that can only mean more political appointees that haven't a clue. Just ask Erin ODonnell.

What has the world come to?
We laugh at Airport Cops and how we are so well prepared. In 27 years I have seen CPD as a backward law enforcement agency. Hell you go to any suburb and they are 100 percent more prepared for anything than we are. As far as the politicians, we are all expendable. Remember the bank robbery in Los Angeles where the offenders had automatic weapons. They were able to get heavy weapons from gun stores in the neighborhood. Good luck in Chicago. By the time SWAT got there the death count would be phenominal. But my point is no mateer what politics plays a big part in the police department. CPD is not much better equipped than Airport Police other than CPD having a handgun. If the airports or any other situation arose where there was an active shooter or shooters with automatic weapons everybody would be fucked. Look at the equipment in the vehicles of any suburb or small town in Illinois. Almost all have both Carbines and Shotguns. Many have fully automatic weapons, MP5's, Ar15's, etc. Plus they have all the equipment they could could need for any situation that arises. What we have is a spare tire and hopefully it isn't flat. We have been lucky. An attack is not a matter of if but when. The shooter from Las Vegas originally had a few reservations at a hotel overlooking Lollapalooza. Why he didn't show was a blessing.
So I will say this. Maybe Airport Police are a bunch of goofs compared to everyones standards, but are they worse than 8 dollar an hour unarmed security guards. Maybe Airport police never worked the streets but they have always been there at the airports if CPD needed help. That you can't say is a lie. Hell I would be happy if they armed them. If anything ever broke loose such as an attack at the airports, the one thing that you always want is strength in numbers. Is it better to have 5-8 armed CPD when all hell is breaking loose or 15-16 armed PO's no matter if they are CPD and APD. We don't have the equipment and fire power we need, so the next best thing is having as many armed PO's as you can.
Agree or not, it is the truth. If you disagree so be it, but I hope you are never in a situation where all of a sudden you regret your opinion.
