The Greektown shooting the other day continues to pop up in our comments and e-mail:
- OT: Hey SCC, if you get a chance look at the background of two of the offenders involved in the Greek Town shooting. Both are on parole for Murder, both charged in 2008 and eventually convicted. Offender 1 was sentenced to 18 years and offender 2 was sentenced to 80months. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought you didn't get day for day good behavior on a murder conviction? How in the world is offender 1 out of prison and how does offender 2 get 6 1/2 years on a murder?!?! Where's the outrage, where's the accountability, where's the protest? News Media, you want to know why our City's streets are lost? Start by looking here!
It seems the shooter was convicted of Murder. That's a felony for starters, so he shouldn't have had a gun according to the law. More interesting is the rap sheet that says he served only FOUR years of his EIGHTEEN year sentence. His accomplice, who actually handed him the gun, was convicted of the same murder and served ONE year of an EIGHTY month sentence.
We're wondering where the outrage is? Where's the media's breathless coverage of democrats releasing murderers back into society where, 'lo and behold, they manage to get a gun, get into a fight, blast a few people and generally be a pain in the ass to the taxpayers.

An educated guess would be for a plea bargain, no trial. Not making excuses for ASA but sometimes witnesses due or change testimony, can't be located are not reputable and the ASA might not think they can get a conviction on murder 1. They they go for 2nd degree

Media doesn't report soft-on-crime stories for the same reason that Ed Johnson and Rahm Emanuel say that crime is down - b/c it keeps the tourists and masses happy, oblivious, and liberal.

If the truth about crime and corruption in this city was known, tourists would flee for their own safety and Amazon would not even consider this place. rahm is lucky the media are such lapdogs who can't make a move without his say so.

Someone needs to compare the federal courts with the state courts and the States Attorney’s office with the U.S. Attorney’s office. In other words the federal system vs the state system. Does anyone see a difference? Why? I’ll tell you why. The Democratic Party! That why.

Light sentences through plea deals are the fault of the “victims” and witnesses. As every street cop knows, it’s very hard to get an Agg Batt/Firearm victim to cooperate, or homicide witnesses to cooperate. If they do, it’s damn near impossible to get them to come to court 1.5-2 years later. If they are not now dead themselves, they have move three times since the incident and can’t be found, are locked up, don’t want to be bothered, or come to court and recant their original statement to the detectives and felony review. When you see these sentences, it’s 9 times out of 10 not the fault of the police, the states attorneys, or the judges, it’s the fault of the “folks”( and people) in the community.

Felons can legally own guns in Illinois. They submit the required documentation to the Illinois state Police and by they make the final decision. You can FOIA the Ill state police and get the numbers of Felons with FOID cards.
