- Seven City Council hopefuls and two mayoral candidates say in a local voter guide that they can envision a future Minneapolis with no police.
Asked, "Do you believe that we could ever have a city without police?" two mayoral candidates and two incumbents and five serious challengers running for City Council answered "yes."
Those candidates, who responded to the question for a voter guide compiled by the nonprofit Voices for Racial Justice and published with Pollen Midwest and Rhymesayers Entertainment, said Wednesday they do not plan to eliminate the police department. Instead, several said, they were describing an ideal future in which inequality and racism are eliminated and government policy has solved many of the social problems now handled by police arresting and imprisoning people.

The Minneapolis Republican Party is so beat down, that they are not even running a Minneapolis Mayoral candidate this time. They are not even pretending anymore by running a reliable uninspiring party hack. The last time a Republican was Mayor was 1948. Yes, 60 years ago.
Even if they did, Minneapolis has this incredibly complex ranked choice voting system. Last time it took them 3 or 4 days to figure out who f'ing won some council seats.
Their only hope is that about half (the semisane half) of the politicians, are lying sacks of ship and have no intention of eliminating the police.

On some college campuses there is serious talk of disarming ALL campus police, and on many campuses the police are already unarmed. Just as years ago we adopted the British model of Community Oriented Policing, a time will come when we will consider the European Model of unarmed police. Most police in England are unarmed and in France many police are unarmed, despite the Terrorist threats that they currently face. Many of our young cops have never used a firearm until they reach the academy. The end of the Military Draft has produced generations of young men who have lived their whole lives without firearms, so working without a firearm is not inconceivable to them. In the truest sense; Social Justice Warriors intend to help the community, as uniformed social service providers; so why should they be armed? And since cops are expendable, anything is possible. After all, in the current environment, any criminal is worth more than any cop. If you doubt me, consider the pay-outs for wrongful death lawsuits. The amounts for dead felons far exceeds what is paid for an officer killed in the line of duty. Remember that, when they ask you to risk your life or career for ungrateful Democrats. Baby "G"

Very true, as in Illinois as soon as you get outside the interstate bypass loop it's a very different state. 30 minutes out and you start seeing those "yes on guns, no on abortion" billboards just like downstate. Unlike Illinois, we have a Democrat-Farmer-Labor party rather than just a Democrat party so some of the outlying regions like Duluth are run by conservative-leaning DFLers.

For the record, Ventura wasn't particularly liberal. Crazy, yes, and definitely an asshole based on future actions, but he's best characterized as a libertarian who did more than just whine about pot laws. I wasn't living here when he ran for office, but given how both (D) and (R) have repeatedly shown themselves to be hopelessly rapacious, incompetent and corrupt I'd have been hard pressed to not protest vote for the guy. Regrettably I can offer no valid excuse for Franken, Mondale or those other clowns, except to say that our state bird is in fact the common loon and there may just be a reason for it.
On the plus (plus) side, I have good reason to believe that my dueling-and-gladiators political stance will strongly position me in my ultimate bid for Governor of Minnesota. I just need to bank enough dough beforehand that I can retire early, because there won't be too many corporate R&D jobs waiting for me once the world knows what I *really* think about the social collective.

I lived there for couple of years on a job transfer. I recommend if any of you cops are thinking the same thing, forget it. Most people you meet there are clueless about life; right or wrong or even taking a position on most things that the rest of us think about instinctively. We should imagine a country without Minneapolis. I will say that the political leaders are too corrupt on power than larceny. Oh I'm sure many of them steal but I really believe corruption in Minnesota political leadership originates from the power trip. And forget about Mondale, these assholes collectively voted for Al Franken for Senate. I mean that two bit piece of shit should not be sitting in judgment of anyone in my opinion as did during the hearings last year for Judge Neil.
