Traffic Court Change?

From about twelve different e-mails:
  • From an e-mail

FYI to my PO friends, No more sign in sheets at traffic court. You still need to bring OT slip but they sign u in and out on the computer. Also no more printouts of who is on your call so now you have to sit during entire call. If you haven’t done it before you have to start bringing your ticket books
Are they pioneering something to track court time? Swiping is coming (again) and we imagine there will be some form of swiping at court shortly after they work the kinks out at HQ. We can see Rahm trying to attack the contractual two-hour minimum in upcoming negotiations.

Just a point though - you were always supposed to bring your ticket books to traffic court. That order never changed and we are surprised that the Inspection Division hasn't tried to use that as a "mover" for their own purposes.

Shades of the Dutch Boy at the dam. Too little,
too late. After decades of profligate spending,
the City is turning on the little man and seems
poised to strike at a lousy 2 hour courtesy
provision in order to save a few dollars. After
financial mistakes (or criminal diversion) were
made at the upper levels of management,
suddenly a time-tested professional courtesy
is under fire. This is tantamount to docking
4 hours of pay after an officer was shot at 12 Noon
and then hospitalized.

I stopped writing tickets years ago. Not because of this stupid department, but because I got sick of hearing these judges letting everyone go. There was no enforcement of the traffic laws in the courtroom, so I stopped wasting my time and ink on traffic citations. There’s even more reason to avoid traffic court between the numerous petty deviations they hand out and the inconveniences this department places on you. They can keep the 3 hours of OT- not even worth it.

Yes. Suppose to bring books. But the sheets tell you the call for the day. People can cancel. Be sick. Cases can b continued months. The ticket books don't tell you that. It's a crappy system and another reason to avoid traffic court

Haven't written a ticket or been to traffic court as a PO in over 25 years. I knew that place was full of shit from the first time I walked
In there. But as an attorney, I was a regular at 321 and did quite well in supplementing my income while I cut my PI teeth. Dope boys had tons of disposable cash ;-)

Two hour minimum for traffic court? It should be a four hour minimum for traffic court. It’s always at least three hours round trip, that’s why I’ve only been there twice in the last 10 years. I wonder how many people that do write traffic will stop now that vri is gone? Maybe they no longer have a sign in sheet because there’s nobody to sign in most days.

In addition to that, your actually supposed to make notes on the back of the blue tissue copy regarding what you observed as to the traffic violation. You know how frequently the city attorney will reach out to the officer that is sitting in court and hand them a citation and ask if they recall the incident only to hear the PO answer "No" because quite frankly he/she really does not give a shit what happens to his or cases as long as they can get out of court and collect their 3 hours in under an hour. I had a judge that admonished two rows of coppers in open court after the 3rd case was called and coppers continued to respond "I don't recall" The judge reminded us when we come to his court room we had better have notes on the back of said tissue paper in our books and be prepared to testify. I was thinking in my head "go fuck yourself judge, but since that time I didn't want to ever get called out again so I started making it a habit to write a two lines to jog my memory in court... This incident occurred about 8 years ago back when court fees and cost were like $60 and Not $214 like they are today what a Joke!

Maybe we can do what the Brits are doing ?

http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/11/25/police-letting-suspects-go-hope-best/

Police are “letting [suspects] off with a warning and hoping for the best” because they can’t cope with the scale of the crime problem, a senior officer has warned.

Since 2010, the number of custody cells has dropped by as much as 50 per cent, with further cuts planned to the suites where suspects are taken after they are picked up by police.

I stopped writing movers when the stupid judge kept issuing not guilty findings for my and every coppers tickets. After the third not guilty verdict I said to myself I'm cutting this jagoff judge out of this clusterfuck court proceeding and will no longer recall the events that led to the stop. After the judge saw approx. 7 ODNR written on the tickets by the corp counsel he became a little pissy asking me to stay after the court call. My train of thought was if he was going to waste my time I'm going to cut this circus short and cut him out of the decision process. He told me my recollection of events leading up to the issuance of the citations was abysmal. I told him perhaps I was writing too many tickets and slow down my activity. He didn't like that answer and ratted me out to the head judge of traffic court who called the head of the traffic division to chew my ass for my attitude. I never got an ass chewing after I explained to the boss how this jagoff ran the court finding everyone not guilty. He asked politely if I could please refrain from insulting these pompous asshole judges and I told him I'll try. The boss was an understanding fellow.

Traffic court is designed to be a major inconvenience to the officer writing the ticket.
It started a while back: not in order
One judge for two or three court rooms.
Sparing officer for not being there 15 min need before court starts.
Cases heard at very end of call.
Judges throwing everything out.
Minimal enforcement of any kind of penalties.
No moving tickets available at the district level.
Red light cams.
B.S. speeding traps.
No parking or $25 to park private car.

Yeah. No thanks.
Have fun Romocide!!!

They use the computer at branch court already, not a big deal. As far as not having the sheet, Check in with the city attorney and ask how many they need you on. If it’s only one or two leave when they’re done with them. Do you guys instantly bitch about everything before thinking at all?

They want to really save money? How's this: You write a ticket involving the driver to show up in court. If they want to contest the ticket then the judge continues the case and notifies you for court. Most people won't want to take another day to come to court again and just pay the thing and you don't waste your time and the city doesn't have to pay p.o.s to waste their time sitting in court.

It is true there has been no significant increase in the 2 hpur court time rule in over 30 years. The FOP should realize that a day off should mean just that and the court key matrix is out dated and the officer should be allowed to schedule traffic citations on a day he is working. If one should be required to go to any court on a day off he should be compensated for a full days wages and overtime after 8 hours.

I had to bring my ticket books to court back in 1987. Nothing new there. Right now Juvenile Court and the Branch Courts have the electronic sign in by the Court Sgt. Juvenile Court still requires the time stamp as does 26th.

Why write movers? Is the city going to use the fines to pay your insurance premiums when you retire? Dirty, lowdown, rotten scoundrels are running the show. The judges and politicians will always have top insurance at little to no cost while the working man or woman suffers. Any citizens that agree with the politicians can call their alderman instead of us when in need. I'm tired of everyone being taken advantage of while the politicians thrive. Whoever votes for these horrifying excuses for human beings shall get what they deserve. Many will eventually burn in hell and rightfully so unless the Feds can incarcerate them where they belong and then they can rot in hell. Christmas would bring the best presents in the form of political indictments of nearly all Chicago and Cook County politicians with a healthy amount from Springfield.
