Land for Sale?

Rumor out of 001:
  • The city is trying to sell the 001st District parking lot! No joke. The buyer would have to build a parking garage for the district. Heard an email was sent out asking for count of the number of people that work each watch, the number of spaces needed for squad cars, the number of oversized vehicles, etc. First the tie clips an now this!! Let's see, you have mass transit, the Area Central Deputy, Central Detention and district personnel working out of the building. The shifts start at all different times. Say the land gets sold, where in the hell do people park while the construction is going on?!? And if the construction is anything like the building, it will be sinking into the ground within a year!! There's already a new elitist school going up right next door. If this doesn't show us that TPTB and the mayor doesn't give a shit about us, I don't know what will!! What politician has their grubby hands in this shit?
The footprint of the property was obviously an afterthought of sorts - no one expected the South Loop area to grow as quickly as it did.

Can anyone verify?

Sigh. They were taking count because they are issuing 2018 parking passes. No garage. No land sale. Take it from me, I’m the one who has to have the passes for 2018 ready and had the watches and units count....

The building is falling apart. Just sell the whole place as is. Let's go down to 21 Districts.

I work in 001 and I heard this from the 3rd watch Lieutenant. Honestly I'm all for it. Bunch of lazy cops park their cars and Winnebagos (not kidding ) in the lot, there's no where to park, people parking on 17th Street because they are too lazy to walk from the lot (dear God does this department need mandatory power tests annually). So if it's big enough who cares ? And as far as parking during construction, there's a streets and sanitation lot across the street, which maybe could be used for the time being.

Just close it down and sell all of it. The Experts say we don't need any police. No police, No Police Offices!

If Dart can shutdown and bulldoze the county jails, why can't Rahm do that with District offices?

Also, there was some kind of a land-swap at the beginning of this deal. I can't remember the specifics, but it had to do with that Dearborn Village thing behind the station and the configuration of that development . Somebody do the homework on the (wife's a judge) builder. Name was Tom Snitzer.

The Parking lot is the best thing going for the 001st District. The building is unleveled. The sewer backs up in the female locker room. The showers are corroded. The water is polluted and in the summer nets are everywhere. To think that officers still make coffee using faucet water. Don’t trust the water. Cancer and acne breakouts are at an all time high.

That school construction site is in a landlocked position.
If it’s landlocked then where the hell would a new parking lot go for 001?
There’s no available land in the immediate vicinity.

Speaking of immediate vicinity this “elite school” is going up literally right next door to 001.... can you imagine traffic around 001 at start and dismissal times? The way parents just double and triple park and simply stop where they are so junior can get out/in?
Nightmare in the making!

Remember Rahm’s mantra: it’s for the children.

New 001st District lot will be built near Midway.
You’ll then take the Orange Line to vicinity of 001 and walk the rest of the way.

Rahm says sorry for the inconvenience but remember it’s for the children.

The city does not care. True city fashion they told us the city does not have to provide parking. Employees are forced to park on the street near where they pull their truck out from.

Yawn to your sigh. It is true. The City is looking for a buyer for this piece of property. IF it actually happens, it will be hilarious trying to figure out where everyone will park during construction. What next?

The same shit in 019..we have a parking lot for visitors (those who need reports) and for the officers. We should be thankful we have a garage but noooooo...there are lazy ass cops who everyday have to park in the visitors garage because they are too FUCKIN lazy to park where they are supposed too. These are the same lazy cops who always have to go where they give us FREE food! And of course you can bet they would NEVER pass an annual power test.

I think the property (plots) has been for sale ever since they built 001.
Seven (7) Exempt - Non Taxable plots exist from 12 W. 18th St (17-21-405-017-0000) to 32 W. 18th (17-21-405-005-0000)
Zoning, size and use is probably the issue and not for a parking lot.
Not an attractive or lucrative piece of land as it sits.
$5 says the entire square block & that ecologically dated haphazard low bidder patchwork building is probably going to be razed...for residential.
Check who’s the AlderThief for a clue.
That makes for one mighty nice package deal.

Not if but when, there’s probably a DV Urban Property scam in the works.
Close 018 and 001, build a brand new multiplex building somewhere inconvenient, a former CHA rubble lot or landfill far away from any expressway and where gentrification will be decades away.

Mid 2018 is a good time to announce another new modern Police facility coming to the underserved community, bringing jobs and services for all.

Don't forget the school is being built on the receiving dock side of Marianos. Food delivery trucks are in and out all day. The lot is also filled up by citizens parking and taking the bus downtown. When it rains the lot floods and the water sits outside the higher sewers,

4th District station has a boiler room full of crumbling Asbestos tape hanging off pipes and floating in the air mere feet from roll call room and locker rooms. Plenty of officers there struck with health problems including cancer. Not to mention the pet coke floating around in the outside air or the continuous smell of vomit on the eastside. All our facilities in this city are horrible. Terrible construction, poorly laid out, no parking, lack security, and terrible locations that interrupt police to respond to incidents in a timely manner. Good luck getting out of 19th District parking garage after a Cubs game to respond to a 10-1. Every decision is made by half wits and morons and we all suffer because of it.

Always a drama queen. Always have to throw in the extra crap. Happens all the time. Your in the garage and you need to respond to a 10-1
Always the worse case scenario. How about the terrorists attacking and you are the only car able to respond and you are in the garage after the Cubs game.
