CWB Confirms - No Cameras
- Chicago police officers who are assigned to sit outside of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s home at 4228 North Hermitage have been ordered to not work with the body-worn cameras (BWC) that other officers are required to wear. News of the development came this morning on the Second City Cop blog.
Now, CWBChicago has learned that the no-camera order was issued by someone who “out-ranks” 19th District Commander and BWC champion Marc Buslik. Whether that person is a police executive or a member of the mayor’s office was not immediately clear.
We have also learned of a gang-related foot chase, gun recovery, and arrest that took place just two weeks ago directly across from the mayor’s home. The apprehension of the suspect—who’s on parole for shooting a man in Uptown—was assisted by the no-camera house units.
So if these "no-camera house units" happened to use any sort of force during the apprehension of the gun offender, then what? Who's going to take the weight for that lawsuit when the defense (or future plaintiff) demands to know where the footage is since every single patrol officer now has a camera? The Commander? Rahm? The so-called "out-rank[er]" who ordered them not to wear cameras?
Not fucking likely.

Guys come on now. This is done for national security reasons. Rahm doesnt want anyone to learn his trade secrets for the amazing skills he has in banking and budget works. Can you imagine if some well run city got ahold of his genius top secret formulas for running a city down the drain ?? We would have cities failing everywhere.

The mayor´s detail was wearing the BWCs the afternoon of that incident. However, they never left their cars! All they did was call in what they observed. It was 19th 3rd watch beat cars that apprehended that particular offender.
But they have been ordered to not wear BWCs. But every supervisor who has those cars on their log should appropriately check the ´assigned´ Box and then note the reason (by verbal order) in the space provided to document why they are not being employed...Otherwise they have signed an official document with omissions or inaccuracies that could open them to rule 14 sanctions. They ARE overseen by watch sgts.
Now that one of the city's finest citizens have gotten close to Rahm and affected his family personally, Rahm will let the police be police. The other 2.5 million citizens and rest of CPD, you're not important.
Where is the "transparency"? His favorite word along with diversity, inclusion, it's for the children, level playing field, no comment.

I have a legit question. If Rahm lived in a Gold Coast high rise would he still need 20 police bodyguards?
The only question anyone should be asking, why no camera's at his residence? You have the recent arrest, an armed felon, and his kid being robbed a few blocks from daddy's residence. The second question, can an officer refuse an assignment that requires him/her not having the required equipment?

Until the community oriented COPA figures out that it’s always the communitay membre thats lying, (which they already know, so they’re looking for uniform infractions now)...wear the cam and the tie clip.
Like tasers, the COPA will want to eliminate the use of bwc’s based on they don’t reflect or substantiate the false accusations that the community claims happen every day.

Good article, the pos they caught on his block should have still been in prison. Gets attempted murder dropped to a lesser charge, sentenced to 7 years, severs 4 and is on parole. At least it happened on tiny dancers block not mine.
Really who cares! they sit in a car for 7 hours reading a paper, drinking coffee, and playing on the phone.....is this really a huge deal if they don't have to wear them......some desk officers in other districts don't wear them either and you are more likely to have something happen at the desk than sitting in an alley. Let's be more concerned with not getting screwed on discipline in this next contract.

Only patrol wears camera. Not swat, marine, helicopter or any special details. Patrol officers don’t even wear them when they work special. Maybe we should focus on that instead.

Simple: video footage of arrests, foot chases, veh chases and the like on the mayor's block could be seen by someone in the press as 'sensational'; and if any kind of force is used (gasp), it would certainly make the news. the optics wouldn't be politically advantageous to dickhead rahmmie, so he removes the possibility or repetition of it.
