At least they used the tree to hold the cable. They could have installed a small pole.....but the tree was already there.....now we need a sign "CAUTION: Do not trim the tree" Of course in Chicago they will need another cable to light that sign and so on and so forth.

Will it never end????

OT: WGN did a real hatchet job on the Elgin LT who (allegedly) had to shoot the woman in Elgin (on I-90). They just released some of the incident's video and WGN edited it and showed some. Then WGN requested the guy's personnel file and pointed out all the complaints against him - even though ALL were dismissed.

If you heard and saw the story - She was shot after not obeying the police to step out of her car and then they had to try to rescue her after she set the car on fire (odd behavior??)

WGN did not focus on when she was coming out of the car - she had knives in her hands (that makes a BIG difference in trying to get someone out of a car and someone who wants to engage you in a fight)

Funny how WGN skipped over a lot - like painting a real picture of this woman. Who was she - and what was HER background??

Was she on Drugs? (was an autopsy ordered? it should have been).

I am NOT impressed by the slanted coverage on this story by WGN. Today, Elgin, tomorrow CPD.

The story of the police using "excessive force" is starting to get old.

Police need sensitivity training?? How about ALL civilians taking a course on what to do when you are stopped by the police?? Funny how that should be in EVERY grade school and HS and 95% of these cases would disappear.

Better yet, why doesn't WGN and the other stations run this PSA everyday?

No worries, a union electrician plugged it in and a connected landscaper under a city contract made sure it wasn't hurting the tree.

Damn someone beat me to this, Was going to send this photo this week! Congrats to the guy or gal who got it here first. An extension cord from the police gym's window hanging onto a tree, to plug in the 19th district ad board, wait till this crap sets a fire to the tree or falls on and electrocutes someone. The City that (DOESN'T) Work!

Maybe this is the cord that plugs in the SWIPING MACHINE in 019, Maybe a squirrel can chew on it and break it in half and we can eliminate the swiping in and out. Well a man can dream, can't I?

It's actually Not an Extension Cord... It's a CAT 5 or otherwise known as an Ethernet cable used for Data transfer. I was looking at it the other day. It's connected to the digital sign out front. The other end leads into a window opening in the workout room. My guess the font office connects up a key board to change THE MESSAGE ON THE SIGN. You would have thought it would have either been controlled via wireless internet or IR at the very least. Nothing to see here.

its not code...

but since it would take real electricians to fix it, the city relies on building engineers to do everybody elses job.

Boy critically injured after sticking head out of moving Red Line train

Has the city ever built a station that was all code compliant?

3/24/2018 08:05:00 AM

Actually....it is code. Because the cord doesn't "hang the full span".
It must be supported "about half way by a tree, light pole or stop sign."

In my professional opinion I wouldn't doubt that the Extension Cord from the Sign is what's powering the entire Building on the left.

That's based on my experience from dealing with with some of the Engineers on city buildings that I was involved with right before I retired. They do everything ass-backwards. (bunch of f--king morons)

Local 134 electrician here, that’s a temporary feed, probably to program/ work out the bugs with the sign. Chances are the sign guy is ahead of us and demanded it right now. That was the best the guys could do in a pinch. Come on SCC, you should know that nobody likes someone Monday morning quarterbacking their job!

COPRAH is probably holding a how-to seminar or the Cook Co Resto-Justice Trilogy of Terror is having an walk-in expungement fair.
Gotta get the message out and the sign has to lit.

I’m not in the trades and by no means an electrician, but I know for a fact that there is no auxiliary receptacle on the side of that sign.
(Gramps had a name for that type of sloppy quick fix.)
Someone and not an electrician, had shimmy up a ladder open up the internal junction box and splice that extension cord into it rather than trace the source of the power loss.
Nice temp fix for perhaps a string of 60 watt bulbs, but this is outright dangerous nuts.
Wonder what the load is to light that sign, prob running a 30 amp breaker and just a 14/3 extension cord draped over a publicway and thru tree limbs.

That has to be one important sign message.
Please someone post a photo of it.

Of course, when they built the sign they ran electric out to it and forgot to run the cable for the sign controller...... Sounds like a certain powerful construction co. when hey built the new addition on Lutheran General Hospital. Got it all done, TV cables, IT wiring, electric..etc and forgot to include wiring for telephones for the rooms etc. ....

Looked at that more disgusting, pathetic dishonest reporting that is typical of media especially the "we hate law and order" chiraq media! The media was an explosion a major anti-police riot so the reporters can win that prize and get on to bigger media! they would never be able to get on fox world news but they are qualified for cnn, msnbc etc! Those stations are so biased against law enforcement it is beyond anything ever witnessed ever!

The cord incident reminds me of when they converted half of the garage in the old 6th Dist into a roll call room. They bricked up the space where the overhead door was & put in 2 small windows in that wall. In the wall between the new roll call room & the half of the old garage( Gas pump,Shotgun barrel, recovered property cage) they put a hole in the wall & installed a air conditioner, venting hot air & water into the garage. In a matter of hours it was a swamp.
