FOP Protest

  • The Fraternal Order of Police is urging the rank-and-file police officers it represents to show up in force at the May 23 City Council meeting to underscore the union’s claim that Mayor Rahm Emanuel has “turned his back on the police.”

“Emanuel has turned his back on the police. He has put police officers and public in danger. Now, it’s time to confront him at the City Council meeting,” the union said.

In a flier distributed to its members, the union said buses will be leaving at 8:30 a.m. — from 51st and Wentworth, FOP headquarters at 1412 W. Washington and from Belmont and Western — to transport police officers en masse to City Hall.

“The Fraternal Order of Police is calling on all members to attend the Chicago City Council meeting on Wednesday, May 23, to demand that Mayor Rahm Emanuel back the police,” the flier states.

“This move by the FOP comes in response to the Chicago Police Board’s decision to put Officer Robert Rialmo in a no-pay status for a 2015 fatal shooting that was deemed ‘unjustified’ by COPA. Superintendent Eddie Johnson, experts and the FOP said the shooting was clearly justified,” the union flier states.
There should be fliers up on the FOP bulletin board already. Pack the buses, pack the Hall. We encourage retirees to show up, too. Let's make this happen.

Every cop vehicle in the City ought to pull up outside City Hall, park in the street and march in to the meeting. Block every single street all over the Loop. BLM and other groups can do it w/o any consequences so it ought to be just fine.

I'm not sure if anyone else caught it but the department updated the police officers Bill of Rights. In it they allow Copa to decide whether or not to let officers know when they have video of an incident and to decide whether or not to let that officer see the video. Then Copa can charge officers with a rule 14 violation if they think the officer will fully made a false statement. And it's up to Copa to decide what willfully means

The flop trying to save its skin. Well a little to late, thanks fop. You guys are really shit when it comes to being a bargaining unit. Always behind the curve and the outright lies, remember the Philadelphia plan . Members weren't gonna pay anything for health insurance with the union running it after taking it over from the city. Remember guys, while you are their protesting ask your union leaders important relevant questions at hand like what happens with certainty if the chgo police pension fund goes bust? Or since the city is firing officers on past beefs which the flop fucked up on since the city wasn't supposed to keep cr numbers longer than 5 yrs. are we ever gonna close this loophole? Decertifying the fop or becoming a fair share member are real possibilities, wait until the pension fund goes bust and gets radically diminished - then you will understand why every boss is making his relative and friend a merit boss cause they know what's coming. Wake up people, the fop hasn't done one thing for the membership except divide it and cause bitterness amongst the ranks of the old and new coppers. All done at the city behest, the membership always gets screwed over. Time to dump the flop.

You need some street theater to attract the public's eye, like the left wing democrats/socialists use. Protest signs, banners, pamplets. Puppets than represent COPA and the City Council. Handheld loudspeakers that can be held in front of the faces of these politicians just like certain protesters, and one who is running for mayor, use on the police at demonstrations. You need the buckets and sticks for rhythm and chanters to deliver rhyming verses. Maybe some falling out on the floor of the Council & Mayor's office. Don't forget to borrow that big blow up rat from the Teamsters! Ask youself how many years have you seen these tactics used and the news media always covers it.

Eight years ago when I came on the job, I was proud and loved being a Police Officer. It's time for me to look in another direction, even just being on the job for eight short years, this job has changed for the worst. (Obama effect) I've convinced my wife and other family members that we have to move out of this state. Would like to remain a Police Officer, but in another local. I have lots of friends on the job that are vested and not interested in leaving, but with only eight years I'm gone. I can't see it getting better, the Dem's are in charge and that's the problem.

(5/16/2018 04:36:00 AM)

One thing I’d like FOP to do is try to get Overtime pensionable, especially since that’s one way Rahm has been screwing over Retirees and the Pension.

Everybody was once the ACTIVE Police.
What you do as an Active Member eventually helps your Retired Status.
There would be no Retirees if there are no Actives.
Everybody hopes to become Retired.
Retirees that gave up/gave in did so while Active.
I applaud All the Active Retirees and the Active members willing to lead the effort.
We are always the Police.
Get from under the bus and join the crusade.

The typical call in a slower district like 022 or 016 is a mental with a weapon that is involved in some sort of financial crime that also participates is online pornography while smoking marijuana without a prescription.

Just digest that and then realize your being evaluated on camera.

"But... But...
Aren't you Cops supposed to abide by your
'Gentleman's Agreement' to not get angry
or to fight back? The public will be upset
because you wild-assed Coppers and your
'too powerful' Union are making noise
about protesting at City Hall."

The ONLY way for this 'protest' to have
ANY positive and meaningful impact is for
the upright and law abiding taxpayers to
come out in force with us to tell Rahm to
cease this very unnecessary war against The
Police that he precipitated by his very own
craven and deceitful nature.

His P.R./Media Agit-Prop propeller heads are
all over everything trying to spin talk of Rahm's
'unlikeability' as nothing more than pouting in the
face of his 'decisively making things happen to push
Chicago forward.'

This:
These propeller heads try to give short shrift to
the one native-born Midwestern trait in order to
procure a pass for Rahm and his antics...

God knows we upright Midwesterners of the large
urban area persuasion do esteem men of action
and the irate, no shit taking ass-kickers
like the Cops of yore and the like...

We do heartily disdain a smug and patently disdainful
m/fer who has managed to gain access to the keys of
power for power and privilege's sake.

We do heartily disdain a nakedly ambitious, ever
grasping, tone-deaf m/fer and those who tend to
orbit such m/fers.

To say nothing of those who have demonstrated an
appalling lack of discernment and common man
decency.

Rahm KNEW that if he were to ever stand a chance
here in Chicago, he needed to activate the leftist
media and the perpetual grievance constituencies
against The Police in order to drive a wedge
between The Police and everybody else to divert
attention and focus away from his criminal financial
and legislative doings.

And here we are at this stage in the game.

Public good will has been peeled away from
The Police and lavished upon the rampant
Dude Inc.

Heh...
The Silent Majority says:
"We support you guys so don't turn your backs
on us and give the city to Dude!"

You Silent Majority types SHOULD be all
in Rahm Emanuel's ass like cheap tissue
since YOU'RE the supposed majority and
he was ELECTED AND RE-ELECTED BY YOU.

Lack of due diligence aside...

Rahm played you savvy and streetwise
'native' Chicagoans for a bunch of saps.

As it is, Chicago is chock full of pretenders
and carpetbaggers from a bunch of other places.

Which explains why there is such a disconnect
between those of us who have the innate knowledge
and collective muscle memory of what made Chicago
a great (but not perfect) place, and those who
seek only to put their agenda in place.

...Idle thoughts over a cup of good, strong coffee.

Police Like You Have No Friends.

This is a perfect start (not the only action that needs to be taken) to the membership showing unity and fighting back. Easy to complain, much harder to take action! Now is the time as the CPD still has a slim chance to be saved. VERTY SLIM!

Failing to have a good showing for this event could actually backfire. It will let everyone know that the brotherhood really exists or is just a myth.

The Old Guard (Dean Angelo's Guys) who are still in the FOP finally lost to the new guard. The new guard was voted in leadership positions in the last election. Kevin Graham is afraid of his shadow. There is a power struggle going on within the leadership of the FOP. The old guard does not want to rock the boat and behind the scene are working to undermine Graham. The new guard has been pressing Graham to get dirty but Graham is afraid that Rahm will not give us anything in the new contract. Graham is soo afraid of coming up empty in this contract negotiations. There has been many vocal arguments between the old guard and the new guard. Graham has come to realize that the rank and file lost faith in him. Two of the Vice-Presidents want to go all out but the old guard has up until recently has Graham ear. Want to read something outrageous? Read the community consent decree proposal. Police management and policy are turned over to "self appointed" community groups. One portion calls for elected representatives of the community --BUT-- excludes (section 186)active/retired police officers, their children, spouses, and grandchildren. So I guess we and our families don't count. Isn't that discrimination based on occupation? Family members can't run for office? But I forget liberals have their own rules.

Chicago PD does not have a real good reputation. Unless you have someone they know to vouch for you it may be a lot harder to find something these days than it would have been a few years ago. No one wants to bring on lawsuits and negative attention and CPD is seen by most of the country as very troubled. Why take chances you don't have to.

One tactic could be the truth. Just tell them when they ask why you are leaving CPD that you just can't take the cesspool that CPD has become anymore.

Police have more public support than you think.
----------
Depends on who "you" and "public" are.

Public support for the police is at its lowest that I can ever remember. And I am not talking among BLM types. I am talking just average law abiding taxpayers. Some of the highly publicized things that individual cops have done where their departments have declined to take appropriate action against them have turned a lot of average citizens against police.

Expand your horizon past other cops and cop families, and assorted groupies and sycophants, and you will see it is a totally different game out there today then ten years ago.

There are still some places where that bond of trust has been stretched but not broken yet. And a lot of departments are working hard on this issue. But where it is gone past the breaking point it is hard to see how it can be undone.

The FOP are planning to protest the decision to put Robert Rialmo (who should be in Jail) on a no-pay status REALLY? one of the reasons there is so much distrust between the Community and the Police is because the FOP Defends and Supports the Police whether they are right or wrong.....and demand contracts that make it nearly impossible to punish bad cops!......The FOP continues to be an obstacle to Civilian and Law enforcement relationships and they need to sit down and shut up!

Anyone else afraid of expressing political opinion and getting a complaint logged against them as Alderman Arena has shown is possible to do to an officer!

Been hearing this forever. Has any officer actually received a CR. From what I read, Arena sent information in to COLA and asked them to review the content of the comments made on Facebook to see if any CPD rules and regulations were violated. Never heard if there were actually 31 CR’s issued

I like "Every cop vehicle in the City ought to pull up outside City Hall, park in the street and march in to the meeting."
Every unit should transmit "officer needs assistance" as they get to city hall. You do need assistance!
Block every single street around city hall.

So if you block all the streets whose going to stop you. The police? Doubt it. CFD doubt it. Sherries deputies? Doubt it. State police? Possibly. Will be very interesting and would sur get national news overage. Please have an articulate spokesman for national news groups. Be sure to call Hannity might get him for a remote report. Rahm won't like this on national news. There goes his 55 million tourists.

Why even bother to go to city hall and walk around or protest the powers to be. Ladies and Gents, do you actually believe the machine, constituents, media whores, etc. are going to bend over especially the machine, you guys have really been smoking crack. What our dumb as fuck FOP leaders should organize is a blue flu memorial day weekend, can you imagine the carnage over that weekend with no Po-Po's out there. Think of "The Purge" but for real. Command staff in all districts is already denying time off for that weekend. Already know a ton of first responders going on the medical for that weekend, fuck this city, let the savages take it. Myself you guys will probably catch me on the top of my roof sniping any coons who even dare and get close to my castle, LOL....

If you are a police officer and you are afraid of this I certainly dont want to work with a chickenshit like you. Really you wrote that question. I find it hard to believe that you are a true police officer.

Wake up and smell the coffee ese

Some of you crime fighters actually think you're making a difference, you're not in this shithole city were the democrats rule. We all puppets also, just like the stuperintendent. Stay Fetal and collect you're paycheck the 1st and 16th and try to save or invest as much money as you can till you retire or get another job. This is the city that the democrats want, let the savages rome in packs all over. The days of policing are long gone, that ol saying "To protect and Serve", fuck that. Let the mayors constituents go out and patrol and make a difference. If the city wants me to be hands off for the money they pay me, so be it. Many of us old timers have less than 8 maybe 5 more years to go. With that being said, for all you young fucks that want to last on this job "STAY COMATOSE" till the machine changes, if not you guys will be the next "Bozo the Clown" being paraded in court and the fucken media whores. And to end my rant, some hard chargers just never quit, God Bless Them......:)

Another fine example of the subtlety of skullduggery.

I could do a point by point dissection of your devious comment, but, it would be overly cruel, even to the likes of you.

So, in it's stead, I submit the following:

1. The purpose, the function, the requirement, for there to be those so employed to enforce the law is founded in the purpose for there being laws.

2. The purpose for there to be laws, (which then require the enforcement of, which, thus, requires the employment of those so employed to do the enforcing), is founded in the nature of the human species. Said nature is not significantly different than the nature of all other species of living creatures.

3. This 'trust' which you not so subtlely imply has been 'lost' has, in fact, never truly existed in the form in which you imply it has. Not Ever.

4. What has existed, in the realm of trust, is that thoe employed to enforce the laws, (as made by those who have been, theorectically, entrusted with making laws consistent with the Laws of God), will strive, to the best of each officer's ability, to primarily enforce those laws, whose violation of, results in the most grievious harms to other humans, giving these unlawful acts their highest priority.

5. The trust you speak of being 'lost' beyond your capacity to imagine recovery of, is actually that tenuous trust in the honesty, sincerity and moralities of those elected to both make the laws, adjudicate those laws, and manage the governmental agencies authorized to enforce and adjudicate those laws. Thus, the dwindling trust here is of the political putz population which has degraded their duties, betrayed the trust inherently imbued within the citizens' understandings of the nature of the American form of human governing and diminished said trust to it now being a consistent mistrust of the majority of political creatures who, (though they often believe otherwise), are just as much a species of human creature as all of us are, (albeit at, or near, the least likely of being capable of surviving by the honest efforts of their own two hands).

6. Your comment, and the many of similiar content and intent, (simi - liar), illustrates the deceptive desires of those who have thoroughly earned the mistrust of the trustworthy.

7. The commonly held misunderstandings, amongst those prone to embracing any to all of the Seven Deadly Sins, are chosen misunderstandings, even when promoted by deceivers such as yourself. What has been chosen can be unchosen. That is the essence of Free Will within this particular form of existense, (though, what has been done can never truly be undone, also an essential element of the nature of this form of existence.).

This world, this Creation, is perilous enough in it's Nature; those existing within it do not need further feckless fucks making it even worse than it is.

The designed nature of Creation fucks everybody plenty; we created creatures do not need to assist nature in it's endeavors.

The flop is not a union , its a fraternal organization. Changing to the teamsters would allow other locals to actually strike and picket on our behalf if we joined their union . imagine 5000 18 wheelers abandoned downtown blocking traffic on 3-july. Besides the members don't know this fact. The president of fop can appoint anyone to other offices, like vice-president or sgt at arms, whether a candidate wins the election for that office or not. thats right shocking isn't it. Now you know why the membership gets destoyed in every contract, because they are all in it. The flop sold us out on the one federal court case they won on officers getting time off work. The federal judge told the city, " the officer earned the time , he gets to take off when he wants, chgo go out and pay overtime to officers who want the o.t." We had them, what does the flop do , they sold the membership out by coming up with the officer exchange program which does nothing for addressing the real issue of an officer burning his time when he wants toobut saves the city money in ot payments. STUPID , STUPID FLOP. Most flop officers i hear are merit, go figure. I mean really, who screws over their own membership, they should be removed from office ,like they did to shields.

FOP LODGE 7 , is a den of incompetence. Graham, our president has lost complete control of the board. Murray has an IQ just north of moron. Prieb is a self promoting hack using Lodge resources to put his own personal book together. Aguilar's a know-it-all that has never been a policeman on any level outside of bitching for 8 hours a day. Donahue is running the show and we all know how that goes historically. Graham is a puppet; a great big fat puppet.
None of them get along and none of them have even similar goals regarding our Union or it's agenda. Try and even get one of these assholes on the fucking phone. The idiocy is running rampant and we're paying them Captain's wages. That's fucking disgusting and we should be ashamed of ourselves.

Well the way I see it, we only have two choices: stand up collectively for a change even though yeah the FOP has been nutless for the most part in the past. But at least Kevin is trying. I never remember Deano publicly going against the machine. I don’t get it why can’t we take a page from the NYPD playbook? Those guys have the balls to stick together. OR we might as well as be content with being passive and submissive and allow city hall to just distamntle this dept and it’s membership to whatever the aclu and copa wants. Just remember if you decide to take a position of indifference don’t ever complain about how shitty things are. EVER. Just eat your shit sandwich, collect your pay and look for a new job possibly. And please please don’t ever regard to anyone on this job no matter how hard charging or tactical warrior looking they are in the hood, as The Real Police. Lol. Especially if they don’t have the balls to stick together and do something to protect the membership. Guys on this job who don’t worry about the politics that affect us all because they’re too busy generating CB numbers for the bosses are like hired security goons that work for their master without being able to think for themselves. Only the Real Police act like Real Police. Part of real brotherhood. Again the example: NYPD. We had a commander from our ranks die in the line of duty as a direct result of shitty crook county criminal conviction politics. A good man who left a young family behind. The ultimate sacrifice for being the police. And we still are fucking divided on whether to band together?

Guess we’ll always be second city. The weasel laughs every time we bitch and complain and are salty because he knows we won’t do shit about it.

So after all the complaining, most of you are now making excuses for not getting off your asses for a few hours to make a statement
(at the very least). This election is going to be close, if there was ever a time for a show of solidarity, it is now. I marched on city hall, with hundreds of other officers and it was a proud moment. All of the media outlets covered the March and city hall had to take notice, even if they won’t admit it. This mayor is counting on us being sheep, and will continue to lead us to slaughter, if we remain weak. Say what you want about BLM and these other left wing protestors, but they show up in significant numbers, make noise, and ultimately get heard. Stop making excuses and show up, stand up. The public is being fed a false narrative, they are only hearing one side of the argument, they need to know cops are fed up with being villainized. It’s a few hours of your time, show up!

Yes, let's do this and all kinds of activities where we challenge the street, City, universities, media outlets - we challenge the turf of the worst anti Police, pro criminal, Cult Marxists.

Sure, it usually looks hopeless, but look what happened in New York City. NYC elected a law and order Republican mayor Guliani and the city was cleaned up, civilization restored.

So it could conceivably happen here.

But, we need some celebrity - a beloved Chicago sports hero, someone wildly known and loved or respected like Donald Trump. We can't have a savior who's an intellectual policy WONK.

And please, everybody - forget about Libertarian Constitutionalists - this city is a 3rd world, madhouse, some tough guy ruler needs to restore order.

I've been a teamster in Chicago. They're just as useless as you're accusing the FOP of being. They refused to represent me in a dispute with my employer. They were rumored to be getting paid by that company to remain useless. We basically had no representation because the union was in bed with the employer. Teamsters isn't the answer. I'll assume the number you used was intentionally exaggerated, but you'd never see even 2 18 wheelers blocking traffic downtown. No one would be striking and picketing on our behalf. You're dreaming. When you say the FOP officers are merit, what do you mean? Merit what?

Don't bash people who are badmouthing the fop. Its from bad past experience, I marched many years ago, it got us shit. Bad people at fop, now we should march ,it should have never gotten this far. The past FOP and present fop leadership cost each member big past retro money, like 10g because a stupid letter that any of the elected officers could have sent in, wasn't sent in. THE national fop lodge should have gotten rid of all those officers that screwed over the membership. They never come to roll cals like they promise. You ask your rp how to answer a cr # , or file a grievance their clueless and always say call the union. I ASK AGAIN , ' what has the flop done for the entire membership in the last ten years. Answer nothing. We really need a new , real union. Wait to you see the next contract, if that doesn't motivate members to change , nothing will. Decertify the fop.
