That's Her!
The CWB blog runs across some incidents that most working coppers have heard once or twice:
- A man charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a Loop elevator last weekend made an unusual move when police brought his victim to identify him: He identified her.

After getting away, the woman called 911 and provided a description of the offender. Police said two other women had reported being battered or sexually abused by a man with a similar description earlier in the day—one near Pritzker Park and the other in an unspecified Loop location.
Cops who stopped Skipper near State and Washington shortly after the attack asked other officers to bring the victim to their location to see if they had the right guy. When the woman arrived, Skipper made eye contact and “excitedly” announced “That’s her! That’s her! That’s the one I got! I stalk my prey," police said in an arrest report. Officers said Skipper’s statement was captured on their body cameras.
This isn't exactly a rare occurrence - a criminal identifying their victim. We've heard about it from a number of detectives. It should make court a slam dunk. In Cook County, though?

Unusual but not rare, it’s called a reverse identification and carries weight because it gets the admission right from the shitbirds mouth. Effective when the victim might have a problem in identification primarily due to the fact that these incidents happen In a split second and total recall is a difficult thing under high stress ( unless of course you’re the police).Great job officers!
I’m glad that happened and appears it will work out, BUT. Why was the victim even placed in a position to make eye contact. My partner and I never allow our victims to get that close to the supposed offender. Isn’t anyone taught anymore to conceal the victims identity. Like I said I am glad this worked out and this s**thead can go f**k a wall.

If you're thinking of an "excited utterance," you've got it all backwards. An excited utterance is admissable.

Sure hope they read him his rights otherwise confession will be thrown out.

Another instance of police are the problem. I’m willing to bet she was a snowflake before this incident. To those that knocking the guys in the show-up...who knows, I’m sure it wasn’t intentional that offender saw victim but it happened. Think about it...she’s going to have to see him in court, right? Do you think she’s going to be carted to the stand in a costume and have a Voice scrambler?
Don't look for any justice here. This parasite who should have gotten a slug to the back of his head at the scene will be back on the street in no time stalking his next victim. These Thugs have absolutely no fear of the police anymore. It's all a game of catch me if you can. Hopefully this woman and other good decent citizens will get their FOID card, purchase a weapon of their choice, take a Conceal/Carry class and be able to defend themselves from the animals roaming our streets. You can't depend on the scorned handcuffed police anymore. You have to be prepared to defend yourself.

Sure hope you're not a police officer, or at least not one on the streets. You don't have to read anyone their rights unless you're questioning them. Some asshole who just spontaneously confesses isn't an interrogation. This isn't an episode of Law & Order where you have to read them their rights and tell them they're under arrest for the rape and murder of Jane Smith as you're cuffing them. There's also a good chance this idiot was subsequently read his rights, and then questioned about the statement he made at the show up. And he was probably dumb enough to explain everything and give a full, recorded confession.
To 9:15AM:
Look up the definition of the term Res Gestae and you will learn why the idiot who identified the victim will be convicted even if all other evidence is lost at trial.

No, I know what an excited utterance is. I truly meant "Excited Exhalation" as a sarcastic cast toward the moron Prosecutors in Crook County. They've got this all tied up in a bow, and they'll find a way to screw it up and let the guy go.

Reminds me a video where the bad guy is being "shown up", with a cop on either side of him. Bad guy blurts out "that's her, that's the woman I robbed!". Cop on one side doubles over laughing, so bad guy says "What I do?". See also America's Dumbest Criminals theme music "dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb..."
