Hyde Park Liberals

Seems they dislike the police or something:
  • So we go into Roti restaurant in Hyde Park at 1526 E 53rd St, Chicago. We are Chicago Police Officers in uniform. My 2 partners and I come in to eat. My first partner paid for his food with the receipt below.

So it's over 100 degrees out so my other partner and I wanted to cool off a little before we ordered. My partner that ordered got his food and sat down at the table to eat. 5 minutes later my partner wanted to wash up before he ordered. He asked the cashier Kaleel if he can use the restroom with his name on his name tag and on the receipt below. His reply is "It's for paying customers only".

My partner and I looked at him with disgust. I was going to say my other partner just paid for food and all my partner wanted to do is clean up before he ordered. I did not want to exert my energy on him and I won't go to a place where we are not welcome. Instead of saying something we just turned around and walked away. We went to our other partner who was eating his food at the table. We told him what happened and he stopped eating and threw the food away. We all walked out the restaurant.
So Starbucks can be shamed into allowing their facilities to become de facto homeless encampments with access to chairs, restrooms and a nice back massage from the baristas without spending a dime. But coppers, who want to wash up before ordering, are treated poorly.

Bring your lunch - it's safer and you know who made it.

This is sad. It’s happened to me a few times...even at restaurants I already placed an order at. For the most part I’ve always brought my lunch and now I never eat out in uniform. It’s no secret, we are hated everywhere. I get sick thinking about all the nasty shit people have probably done to my food just because I was in uniform. It’s healthier and cheaper to bring your own lunch. I used to be an advocate for friends and family wanting to apply to CPD. Now, I have successfully helped steered many away.

I have experienced similar acts of shitheads too. Dublin Donuts right off I-80 West of Harlem in Tinley Park has some of nicest workers who truly work hard not just for shitty wages but a total shithead too! He will smirk at any officer in uniform and loves denying professional courtesy that most Dunkin Donuts often provide law enforcement and firefighters. I have no problem paying for my daily cup of Joe but beware of this asshole because he smells like absolute shit!

Many people say that we are already in a civil war. The left is in a tizzy. Most food service workers are lefties.
In a revolution not everyone picks up a rifle. Some provide material support, some intelligence and others contribute any way they can by sabotaging the enemy at their place of employment.
Enjoy your meal, officer,we gave you half off.

A couple of years ago, I was at Burger King, ordered food, paid for it and the on duty manager started spouting off about how cops shoot innocent people all the time. I told her that the police had shot maybe 10 people so far that year and quoted the thousands of people shot that year so far and informed her that there may be innocent people being shot but it's the citizens shooting them. She continued to mumble something or other and my partner looked at me and said, "Are you going to eat here"? I said no and we walked out and I made sure I told the other coppers in the district about what had happened. I haven't been back except once and that was for a call. They can go pound sand.

Do something about it or Kaleel will keep playing his game. Make a phone call or send an email and report it. How many times have you guys eaten there before? Probably many times. Everybody wants to pull the authority card on the police for their own little power trip especially nowadays with all the hostility and hate.

Let your feelings be known. Every other fucking group in this world complains about anything and everything and they get results even when no complaint is warranted (see the shithead playbook).

Jesus, just WALK on the streets in that neighborhood while working and count all of the hateful I Wish You Were Dead Death Stares you get. You’re crazy to eat anywhere they don’t prepare the food right in front of you. It sucks, but it’s better you come to the realization sooner rather than later. The majority of the people in this town fucking hate you and wish harm on you. Act accordingly.

That is complete bullsh-t, you handled in a very classy manner though. It's sad the contrast between Starbucks and this establishment, the Starbucks made national news for several days, and I highly doubt this incident will be mentioned anywhere other than on this blog.

To the officer who was denied entry to use the bathroom and to ALL CPD officers for that matter thank you so much for your service. You have one of the most difficult jobs in the world and I appreciate your dedication where the city leadership (what a freaking joke) doesn't.

I also left my thoughts on Yelp.com. I have eaten at a different Roti in the past, but NEVER AGAIN! Speaking of restaurants, the City's Dept of Health was conducting an inspection. The owner was told citations were written for no hot water, refrigeration issues and the like. The inspector ranted on the importance of a thorough inspection for sanitary and health reasons stating we dont want to see people sick from uninspected food establishments.

The restaurant owner stated that he gets his licenses as required, maintains his business up to health/safety standards, pays property taxes, regularly contributes to the local democratic organizations and pays sales taxes. The owner pointed to the uninspected/unlicensed pushcarts selling tamales, etc. in eyesight. The inspector with a police looking badge told the owner those pushcarts are unlicensed so we don't inspect them. So much for those pesky health and sanitary standards. Get licensed, play by the rules and risk getting those costly administrative health citations. The city that works.

Don't forget also the copper who was given a "shit sandwich" with real "fecal matter" on the top, few years ago from that taco joint next to our credit union on 111th street!

I think my partner told his story on this so called insignificant blog by the clowns wearing gold stars, my partner and I were working in 010 at the old station on 23rd and Damen beat 1024 the day I remember it well was 09Aug87, we went to eat on 22nd and Troy, I had a sandwich partner had a turkey club plate. After we ate partner said he did not feel well, but never being sick a day in his life thought it would pass. we ended our tour he called me and said he was going on medical severe stomach pains. This next part may sound gross but truth is what is needed especially for younger coppers who think these food places like the police. Partner at home with his wife and 1 month old daughter, goes to the bathroom and notices tarry stool, and weakness wife calls 911,cfd transports to holy cross, where they examined him and told him "probably to much iron in your blood, from taking vitamins." Partner thought "Ok I work out take supplements it will pass," he is discharged and sent home!

He gets home his wife makes him something to eat, he goes to the bathroom and massive amounts of blood were coming out of the rectum, the smell was terrible CFD #49 took him to Christ hospital where the last thing he heard was "Bring a crash cart" he coded out,and they used procedures to bring him back. After massive amounts of blood and plasma, tubes of everything going into him,in intensive care after 5 days of trying laser scope to figure it out down the throat surgery was decided. Partner had surgery ripped open from lower chest to past belly button, after many hours of surgery it was discovered that his main artery inside the stomach had a "nick" right through, and after surgical intervention it was repaired. 2 days after the surgery the doctors talked to my partner and his wife and explained to them with combined 60 years of surgical experience they have never seen anything quite like this and they surmised "it
must of been something you ingested that was sharp and did that.

The doctors said that whatever it was is gone now must of come out during the bleeding. The department of health was contacted and the D-unit who went in there, but could not be sure who did it,but they ran backgrounds on employees turns out 2 of them had been recently released from custody and were gang members, and the 1 was charged with agg assault on a copper!

I know long story saying all that to say this, from that day forward after a 30 year career and both retired my partner still has issues, still has some pain that acts up now and then, but the doctors at Christ saved his life. Since then personally I have never eaten at anyplace to give the scum the opportunity to hurt myself of another copper. The obvious question is I'm hungry where we going to eat? Especially now with the hate the police rhetoric loud and clear, the dishonest fake media bashing police,as i have done bring your lunch in a small cooler. If not you have so many choices of pre-packed food like Pete's market,Marianos etc, or you can get hot food there that you take yourself, this way if you get sick it was not meant for you because you wear that uniform!

*Sorry for being so long but if we don't care for each other and look out for each other who will? God bless all of you and thank you for helping with us old guys pensions!

It’s bad enough that you work in Hyde Park and not Lincoln Park.
But maybe LP is only a tad less biased, even though the staffing, citizenry and businesses are about the same nowadays.

Thanks for the tip.
But the liberal mindset of 21st Century Fundamentally Changed Chicago is going to side with Kaleel as will his employer, the Roti chain of restaurants.
Why?
Because you should have known better.
Because they can.
Because that’s what they do.
Because that’s what can be expected.
Because it’s all about them and their agenda.
Because the the new trend.
Because lack of respect, trust, not bowing to demands and rules of the community.

And maybe, to top it all off, coming back and bite you on the ass, COPA - likely to summon y’all for that disgusted look you gave Kaleel, who will likely become manager for that defiant act of bravery. And of course, no BWC, no ISR, no record whatsoever for that interaction, interruption, disruption and intimidation of that boy on his job...for no reason.

This is the Hope and Change going on since 2008.
Many hate us and who knows what goes on behind the cooks counter.
It’s a gamble to go anywhere in uniform - for any reason.

There’s a good chance Roti apologizes and makes an offer of peace, but I wouldn’t ever go in any one of their many locations.
Employees are likely to get schooled, but that doesn’t matter. A spitter will always be a spitter.
Lesson learned and now we know that when the local Starbucks is packed, there another place to send your community members.

from roti: Thanks for your feedback. We appreciate the community’s response to the situation in Hyde Park and agree that the Roti Team should have handled this differently. We have the utmost respect for all of our customers and certainly for those that keep our communities safe. The Chicago Police Department have been loyal patrons and partners since our opening in January of 2017. At Roti, we believe Hospitality is a core expectation and that expectation is clearly stated in our values. Since learning about the situation at our Hyde Park location, we have retrained the entire team on the value of Hospitality for all of our customers and emphasized the important role we play in our communities. We have also apologized directly to the officers involved and extended our apologies to the entire Hyde Park police station. In this situation, we want our officers to know we appreciate everything they do and we are dedicated to being better in and outside our restaurants. We hope this sheds some light on the situation and the importance of Hospitality in our restaurants.

We hope this sheds some light on the situation and the importance of Hospitality in our restaurants.

I left a message on Yelp regarding Roti Restaurant:
Rated One Star

Your employees treatment of police officers who stopped in your establishment to have dinner on July 4 was absolutely disgraceful. I have a suggestion, if your employees ever find themselves in need of help from the police, (and it is very possible), don't have them call the police. Have them call on a customer who was treated the way the policemen should have been. I can only imagine what would happen then!!! What happened speaks volumes of your establishment!

I actually got a reply on Yelp, but unfortunately it does not appear there, so here it is if anyone is interested:

Hi there,

Thanks for your review. We appreciate the community's response to the situation in Hyde Park and agree that the Roti Team should have handled this differently.

Maybe someone from the Hyde Park police can verify.

To all who voice your opinions on places like YELP, please continue to do so. It helps us all so we can choose to support such establishments. I would not if I know that the police are not being treated fairly. You are appreciated!!!

When unhappy with service, pay a visit to YELP.
I plan on leaving feedback now. It will not be 5-stars.
Hopefully, the a-holes need help one day; and officers are too busy with other calls. smh

I left a yelp review expressing my displeasure for the situation. However, leaving reviews about the food that are likely BS in order to hurt the ratings is unwise and inappropriate. If you want to be taken seriously, stick to the issue at hand otherwise you are no better than they are. Yelp will get rid of the obviously retaliatory reviews anyway.

I contacted this Chicago based business re the
appalling behavior of Kaleel. Have been advised
by corporate HQ that they have apolized to
officers and the police station. They also mentioned
They have "retrained" their employees in
the importance of good hospitality.
As far as I am concerned, Kaleel needs to the
officers involved to rectify this situation.
Can anyone verify if Roti Restsurant mgmt
apologized to officers and station?

Are these new guys goofy, you can slice the hate I felt at any establishment in Hyde park. This is fundamental transformation and Hyde f’n park has been at the forefront for years. When you walk among rattlesnakes, why do you feel they won’t bite?

Bring your own food. The uniform attracts all kinds of shit, so don't let it wind up on your dinner plate. You don't have to be a chef to make a sandwich and throw an apple in the lunchbox. Not worth the aggravation having to roll the dice every time you eat at these places hoping they didn't mess with your food.

Even though it’s not always cheap to bring your own lunch (you have to consistent and it takes some time preparing it), I’ve been doing it for years. It’s safe and healthy. I used to eat with co workers at this place and many, including myself, gotten sick for food poisoning. But, some Officers still takes the risk and eat at this place.

Not everyone hates the Police. But, I wouldn’t take my chance again eating anywhere where the cook can see you in your uniform while they prepare your food. I wouldn’t trust the waitress taking your orders, either.

Remember this incident well, did the hospitalization report, and sent this and information report in, lucky this copper survived, like stated numerous times it has gotten worse since 1987, bring lunch or get premade, at stores! The old adage put DTA on your forehead which means don't trust anyone but the somabitch you see in mirror (credit stone cold Steve Austin). Why coppers would go to any restaurant that doesn't respect police is beyond sensible thinking, even then be careful, what you ingest could literally kill you!

I am almost positive the City Council passed a MCC that states all publicly licensed businesses in Chicago must provide restroom services to any on-duty Chicago first responders a few years ago.

Whenever someone tells me they don't have a public washroom, it's out of order or it is for paying customers only, I put my hand over my mouth and tell them they better have a mop as I'm about to throw up. It is amazing how quickly they let me use the washroom.

I remember when i first got on the job in an area very near to hyde park and quite famous i go in with my partner order food and shit you not several employees cane out from the kitchen to get a look at us young white officers i immediately asked for a refund while my partner gladly accepted his mystery food. Brown bagged from that day on... less than a month later with a senior female black who phoned in an order to a similar place was told 20 minutes we showed up 30 minutes and they looked at her and said oh about 20 minutes she gave them this i know what you motherfuckers are up to look and turned around and we walked out.
That's some on the job training!

It’s surprising to read the nice citizens posting here but I feel like we have been systematically demonized and painted as the enemy of society. Many coppers have adjusted and slowed down, becoming fetal and doing the bare minimum. On the other side of the coin, we still eat in public and spend money while in uniform. In my opinion that needs to stop. Slow down and take your time, gerberously abiding by all normal traffic calls, even with emergency equipment activated, regardless of the call unless it’s a 10-1 or emergency to help fellow officers. Bring your own lunch, snacks and whatever you need to sustain yourself for your tour. People want confrontation with us. I’m probably not the only one but I’ve had similar treatment in establishments. I love the line, “sorry, bathroom’s broken.” When I was told that one time I asked, “reall? So do you have to use a bucket?” Now I only bring food, never eat out. If the tactic is to slap us in the face all the time, let’s stop presenting ourselves (targets) to the good citizens.

To the poster of the long 010 story - it wasn’t too long. It’s what’s needed to drill into coppers’ heads not to eat out. Like the crushed glass in food in 025 a couple years back from a “police friendly restaurant.” Fuck that. Sorry, but if you’re dumb enough to eat out in uniform and NOT think people are fucking with your food, you need to stop licking windows because that’s just dumb.

This is terrible. I can't believe people could be so vile. You guys have one of the hardest jobs out there, and then to be treated like this - just disgusting. I used to live in Bucktown and often saw officers eating at Nick's Pit Stop on Damen. Always wished I could have bought them a meal as a show of thanks.

Yet more delusion from the left. It makes no sense to me. Why on Earth would you side with an uncivil, howling mob of deranged and violent social misfits and losers versus a population of law abiding people with money to spend? And yet that is exactly what they choose to do nationwide, denying service to LEOs, Trump supporters and hating on conservatives with every breath while embracing the most depraved and worthless scum they can find (like MS13).

It is beyond high time for the producers and enforcers in our society to withdraw our services and presence for a few weeks and let the left see what life is like without us. If they love the kooks and deadbeats so much, then let them try and get the kooks and deadbeats to keep their world safe, fed, clean and operating properly. Not sure about you, but I am increasingly sick and tired of these society wrecking morons savagely biting the hardworking hands that feed them.
