Rahm Inflating Numbers

Even the Slum Times has their doubts about these numbers - and Fran Spielman believes just about EVERYTHING Rahm tells her:
  • Sixteen months ago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel set a high bar for his new City Colleges chancellor Juan Salgado: a 25 percent graduation rate by 2019 in a system that, not too long ago, graduated just 7 percent of its students. Now, the mayor and Salgado are claiming to be within striking distance of that ambitious goal with a graduation rate of 22.9 percent.

But the veracity of their claim is being called in question by a series of investigations over the years that have accused the system of inflating graduation rates. Last fall, an investigation by the Better Government Association concluded that City Colleges issued thousands of degrees after lowering credit-hours requirements and diluting education standards. Math requirements were eliminated altogether. The number of credit hours required to complete general education course requirements were reduced from 30 to 20. Classroom credit hours required to secure degrees were reduced from 21 hours to 15 hours, the investigation concluded.

The BGA also concluded that more than 2,800 City Colleges degrees were belatedly and mysteriously issued to students long gone from the system. Known as “automated conferral,” the program sent degrees to students, some of whom had not attended City Colleges in a “year or even decades,” the investigation concluded.
It is a source of endless amusement here that Rahm has McCompStat lie about crime numbers for years and the media believes it all, then he lies about money on a near constant basis, lies about tourism numbers, attendance figures, everything under the sun. And then when he decides to run on bullshit graduation numbers from the money pit known as the "city colleges," that's where Spielman and the Slum Times draw the line?

So with all our training, can we get one of those made up degrees too?

Put Nick Schuler, the CPS IG, in charge of the City Colleges too. He will get to the bottom of it. Better yet, just eliminate the system and get out of the business of wasting money on degrees that have no value.

I'm just grateful that they finally drew a line anywhere at all.

Article from Chicago Reporter 26 Sep 16 "Undocumented students benefit most from free city college program" The article states that out of 492 students who did not receive federal or state aid 56 per cent who were illegal aliens received a two year free ride to the Chicago City Colleges under the Chicago Star program which was deliberately created by Mayor Rahm Emmanuel for undocumented students. So how do you feel about Rahm giving your tax dollars to educate people who have broken US law and don't belong in this country. I went to the City Colleges and paid for it by working jobs. But I am only an American citizen and a person born in Chicago.

In 1967 I went to the Chicago Colleges for two years and paid my way. It was a breeze, it was much easier than the Catholic high school that I had attended. If they have a graduation rate of 22.9 per cent there is is something definitely wrong. Even if the rate was 70 per cent it would still need looking into.

I’m sure this will help the job market for Chicago. A bunch of degrees and no education. Rahm has messed this place up just to stay at the throne.

This dumbing-down the educational system along with the juv’s extended “expungement program” will bring up a new generation of illiterate village idiots, very similar to our “merit” promotional system. Giving test answers away to the chosen few is another avenue. Case in point: the great state of Milwaukee....claimed by none other than one of the CPD’s brilliant Lt test takers.

There was a newspaper story within the last six that told the total costs to the taxpayers to send students to the junior colleges all over the State. I remember Chicago State and Malcom X were the highest with one of them spending 1.9 million per student. As you got down State much less was spent like around $40,000.00. I can't find the story right now, does anybody remember this?

There are accurate stats that MUST NOT be known by the public.

There are accurate stats that MUST BE revealed to be useful as shit poured onto rivals.

Then there are FALSE, FABRICATED, BULLSHIT stats which are profusely distributed to the reliable media lackeys, this being the daily "news" we have come to know and despise.

Crains (ugh) covered this story about a year ago - they interviewed people who spent 1 or 2 years at one of the crappy City Colleges but left (because the education sucked) and finished their last two years and earned their degrees at other colleges. It was determined that City Colleges was counting these people as "graduates" from the City Colleges! Hah! Only in Chicago.
Hey Rahm - fuck you!

With a graduation rate of 23% they should just close the city colleges. Look at the taxpayer money that would save.

Lemme get this straight... Tiny Dancer and his lackey City College Chancellor are jumping up & down in joy over a College System that ONLY graduates 230 out of every 1,000 students? And even more bizarre is that their 'goal' is graduating ONLY 250 students out of every 1,000 students?

What the f--k is wrong with them?? That's Goddamn abysmal. Especially since it was exposed a few months back that all the standards were lowered. Not to mention all the Phantom Degrees that were mailed out to phantom 'graduates' that's included in these ::cough-Bullshit:: 'graduation rates'.

Now, back to the following fuckery: 'in a system that, not too long ago, graduated just 7 percent of its students'.
Whoa, stop right there. Any 'college system' where a pathetic Seventy out of One Thousand students 'graduates' should be burned to the ground, then the Earth salted so nothing ever rises from that ground again!

If I wasn't a trusting individual (LOL), I'd almost think that corruption in the City College System is happening on a scale never before seen in local government, and everyone involved -- from Tiny Dancer down to the Janitors on Night Shift -- is lining their pockets, all at the expense of Taxpayers and the students.

Good thing that Chicago has an Inspector General that is on top of everything. (rotflmao)

City Colleges of Chicago: a place where vastly overpaid and under qualified teachers are, security contracts go to the clouted, building contracts go to the connected and where a education system which should be able to train people for technical jobs that are wanting, instead is a diploma mill. Funny, it always seems that the political class never misses a chance to make money for themselves. It was years ago that an acquaintance of mine, a pretty qualified individual, wanted a part time teaching job at Daley College. He was told to go see Madigan.

as a former teacher at the junior college and then the university level, I can tell you that every school handbook emphasizes classroom attendance. Usually if you have four absences you will be dropped from the course. But, I can also tell you that virtually no one takes attendance or enforces that rule.

Most Junior Chicago College Students can't pass an application!

I worked in HR before this and it was disappointing to see what came in the door from Chicago City Colleges!

Now Mayor Rahm is cooking the books!

This proves that the City Colleges are a waste of money and should be closed!

The City Colleges are nothing more than favored patronage spots for Mayor Rahm and previous Mayor Daley!

The Bga still kisses upbto Rahm. Andy shaw, the still involved Bga head, got his daughter a job in the obama White House as an attorney when 9.5 was chief of staff. His daughter is married to MSNBC ahole Chris Hayes. Shaw is part of Rahm’s near north side fixer clique who really bought us the taxpayer disaster that is Lolla. Again, the park district allows Rahm’s donors, c3 , to do anything they want. So don’t think the Bga will ever really go against Rahm. Impossible. This is just a show that I’m sure Rahm will use to put more of his scum in patronage jobs at ccc.

City colleges also give visas to foreign students from every country on earth and the come here and work illegally get a student visa and don’t ever come to class. Laughable. They also give phony free English as a second language classes to illegals from all over the world. All on my dime as a taxpayer. When will Rahm be stopped?
