We're taking a day off from blogging - minimal posts tonight. We've got plans tomorrow and what with the uncertainty of the coming days, we've got to get some basic stuff done around our personal existence.
From what we've heard, read and put together, this week is NOT the week they're cancelling days off. Once the defense wraps up it's case - later this week or early next week - then the Order will be implemented regarding 12-hour days and canceled days off.

- the 0730 to 1930 and 1930 to 0730 hours for Second and Third watch don't allow for any street coverage as literally hundreds of cops leave the street unprotected while all the radios,Tasers, phones, vehicles, rifles and body cameras are exchanged magically among the watches.
Shouldn't someone have pointed out that there should be 0600 to 1800 shift along with the 0730 to 1930 shift so the city isn't totally unprotected?
If any burglars, muggers and murderers are reading, try to commit your crimes at EXACTLY half-past-seven, AM and PM for the greatest chance of escape.

Of course does anyone downtown also think that the "use of force" 8hr classroom refresher has begun as well? I guess no one at HQ thinks. This is the 8hr scenario/classroom they promised us when we did that 3-4hr training. As a citizen I take the advice here seriously. House is protected fire extinguisher are topped off as well as a few other things. I worry about my wife having to drive downtown as she is soft. Any other suggestions for us to keep ourselves safe are appreciated. I do not want to have to interact with any assholes, but if it me and mine or an asshole i will make sure the asshole does not win.
I think the state failed to prove their jackass case and expect shitheads to whoop and holler.

If you are a new copper who has never dealt with something like this do simple things to make your life easier. Go grab easy things to eat at home you can put in freezer, pizzas etc or cans of stuff you can heat up like soups or chili’s.You might be dog tired and don’t want to be cooking for yourself or shopping when those extra 1-2 hrs might really benefit you. Grab silly shit like extra black socks and under wear at store so you’re not wasting time having to do laundry. This could either be a whole lot of nothing or an extended period of major shit. Eliminate things that could interfere with sleep and downtime. Signed someone who has been there.

Thankfully my sons car has only been broken into just once in the same time period. You can't say they don't have enough cars over there on patrol. Both daughter and sons cars have had numerous tickets written on them, some with the wrong violation. The 4 year wonders gotta generate money for the city but don't seem to be putting in the effort when it comes to crime in that area. Four cars broken into in one well lite area. Appreciate the help 12 Dist 3rd watch Rangers. You're making your Lt's feel all cozy. Keep up the phenomenal work. If you think I'm making this stuff up, I have the numbers to prove your wrong.

To Citizen Richard: It sounds like you have your head in the game already (better than most citizens). Just keep one thing in mind. If you call 911 with a police or fire emergency it will take AT LEAST 30 minutes for us to respond during a real civil disturbance in Chicago. Plan accordingly and best wishes to you and your family.
30 minutes to wait for a call for service? Thats great. Our district citizens don't often see us get the job for 2 hours plus. And that isn't even a mass riot situation, that a normal business day. The citizens should know the next week or two will show how you can't expect cops to show up for a day for your calls to 9-1-1. They will be too busy with looters and arsons. Call the A-C-L-U if you need any police protection, they love criminals, and maybe you guys can just talk it out while holding hands.

Submit your PAR form now for the day you were denied. Check the box on the PAR form that says day off without pay, then sign it and get the appropriate signatures. It will create some fuss, and they'll be digging through the orders to check if you can do that, but ultimately, if they choose to discipline you it will show your effort to reconcile the problem ahead of time. If you need the day off and opt to take a day without pay, your not looking to get compensated during an absence from a salaried position. If they're not paying you for the day, they can't, or shouldn't be able to make you work it.

--I called FOP about this situation before. I was out of state, several hours plane ride far, and they cancelled one day in the middle of a week that I took off which was approved months before. They denied the day just a few days before I was scheduled to leave. I asked what would happen if I didn't come back for the day I was denied and the FOP rep told me that as long as I contacted them and told them I couldn't make it back due to unavailable flight, etc. all they could do was spar me.

I use to live there, and yes, that is a real problem despite that area booming. I had my personal vehicle broken into twice. Came outside numerous times to see broken glass on the ground and or multiple vehicles with broken windows. Taking place on 1st watch hours. The 2nd time I went to the desk I got the “you know how things are it just isn’t important” talk from one of the desk PO’s. Wtf!!

Keep dreaming. Won't happen with Sessions. He is a huge police supporter but has proven himself to be part of the swamp. I believe in Jason Chaffetz's new book, he states Jeff Sessions said he would not prosecute Hillary because of who she is. See if they'll carry you a voluntary day off without pay. Otherwise, with an AWOP, you lose the days pay anyway and at least one more depending if they handle it by SPAR or CR along with your history. Also, consider how a the discipline may affect anything you have future plans for.

The 2nd time I went to the desk I got the “you know how things are it just isn’t important” talk from one of the desk PO’s. Wtf!!

On the few occasions I needed a report while off-duty, from a district desk other than where I was assigned, I never told them I was a police officer and luckily there was no one around who knew me to bust me out. I was still treated like I had the bubonic plague, but I was treated better than if they had known I was a police officer.
Hey did anyone see the Matt Forte ride along on chicago bears.com? At the end the Commander asks a kid "do you know who this is? Isn't that initiating contact with a citizen and calls for an ISR? Was state law broken?"
Were the kids detained? Were they investigated? No. They simply told the commander to go FUCK HIMSELF and then they left. No ISR.
ISR, is ONLY issued if you believe a crime is about to be committed, if it is committed(arrest), or was committed(arrest). The last two would be an arrest. ISR is issued if you conduct a protective pat-down, and give the subject a receipt. ISR was a field contact card that is now 2 pages, thanks to the Civil Liberties Union and Rahm
