RIP Jon Burge
A convenient Boogeyman for all sorts of crooked reporters, lawyers and professors.
Used to smear an entire Department, 99.9% of whom never worked for him.
May you find the peace that eluded you in life.

Boogeyman? Only to the the wolves. He was a Sheepdog. Only the defenders of unethical, wicked, evil, foul, unprincipled, unscrupulous, dishonorable, dishonest, unconscionable, iniquitous, disreputable, corrupt, depraved, vile, villainous, and nefarious behavior would have you believe he was the Boogeyman. He was a Saint a true Hero.. Be forever grateful he was on our side. RIP Commander
Amen.
The patsy of the Dept. Sad how they dragged him through the mud.
He was never found guilty of torture. He was only disgraced by the city he protected.
St. Peter will roll out the red carpet and take you directly to your maker, Sir.
For those who don’t know, we just lost one of the best, if not the best man who ever put on this uniform.
Rest In Pease Commander
Commander Jon Graham Burge was an excellent, dedicated police officer and a Vietnam War veteran who was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, two Army Commendation Medals and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He was treated very unfairly when discharged by the City of Chicago. Also, he was used as a poster child by those with an agenda for a lawless society, by politicians trying to secure their positions, by a vengeful U.S. Attorney and by the rabid media who will destroy anything and everything for a story. Despite their collective efforts to destroy him, Commander Burge prevailed and is highly respected by many people. He will be missed. May you rest in peace Commander Jon G. Burge and thank you for your dedication, mentorship and service.
A good and hard-working policeman who put a lot of murdering scum in the penitentiary! The unscrupulous politicians, left-wing media and anti law-and-order attorneys destroyed this good man. RIP Jon!
RIP Sir. You were the best of the best.
A great man that was dragged through the mud.
Burge and his detectives were unfairly smeared. This present crop of detectives could not detect shit in their mustaches.
Burge was a great Boss compared to what we have now!
REST IN PEACE BROTHER IN BLUE. GOD BLESS !
It’s a shame! RIP Boss! The ridiculous onslaught on this great man is the exact pin point of when this city started going to hell
He was a good man who was accused of many things that were never proven to be true. He was set up in a perjury trap after they could not prove any wrongdoing by him. RIP.
None of the bullshit was ever proven!
A good man who sent true killers to jail. RIP, boss!
I worked with Burge during the 70's and 80's. First in 004, then at the old Area 2.
He kicked ass and took names. He would be the first though the door and last one to go home. The man had a personality that would light up a room. And when some sidewalk expert would come up to him with a bullshit complaint, he'd say, in his big raspy voice " My name is B.U.R.G.E, and don't misspell it when you beef !.
I'd work with him any day of the week.
I knew Jon Burge ~ he was a wonderful man and excellent police officer/boss. He suffered greatly at the hands of the media, police who turned on him and public and did not deserve that. I hope he has found peace and enjoying heaven, where he belongs. Thank you Jon and RIP.
Thoughts and prayers to Jon Burge, his family and friends. Let us have compassion and sympathy for a man who just died, unlike the MSM berating him still. Rest in peace. -not a cop
RIP Commander.
You were a great boss and a great policeman.
A man among men.
The POS Media in this town dragged that man through the mud and for what !
Sorry to hear about this. Good guy.
Jon Burge was the scum lawyers scapegoat. All they had to do was just mention his name and then the absolute guilt of their 'client' was then transferred to Jon in, "Guilt by Inference.'
All those years of alleged brutality and the hundreds of alleged victims, witnesses, B.S. artists et al and yet he was never found guilty of any one of those brutality and torture allegations.
Webb came out with his own personal guilty verdict from his overpriced investigation but couldn't 'prove' anything either. He blamed his inability on the statute of limitations. Pffft.
They wouldn't leave Jon alone dragging him into countless interviews and depositions.
The best they could do was find that testimony from one of the many depositions did not correspond exactly with one prior. What did they then have?
A classic, pimpy perjury charge. That ranked right up there with fibbin to the feebs.
The media were equally to blame for this ongoing sham.
What about the 'dozens' of inmates who likewise filed charges vs. Burge claiming they were 'victims' of his torture and despite an overwhelming finding of their guilt through witness testimony, evidence etc. wanted their case thrown out just because they mentioned Jon Burge. But when it was determined that it was impossible in most of those cases as he was RDO, out of town or even 'retired' when they made those 'Burge Beat Me' allegations... NONE of them were prosecuted for perjury or lying to the FBI.
So then they reverted to the tactic that everyone in the Area that Jon Burge worked (past, present & even future) were all likewise guilty because they knew, worked with or in the same Area as Jon Burge so it didn't make a difference if he was even in town, the scumbags sued, the Shitty settled.
Rest in Peace Jon, you fought a hard fight in a rigged contest.
I swear the news started early last night just to bring on a "burge victim". WTF they must have had this guy on retainer just waiting for Burge to pass. Disgusting IMO. I'm sure his family, if any are still in the area, were happy to see that hours after he died. POS media.
Gave up his personal life for this job no wife, no kids and lived to but evil
away. I'm sorry how they treated you it was just plain wrong. May god take in his arms and give you all his grace. Rip sir you deserve it!
I made this statement before and would like to repeat it. I knew Jon in a professional capacity and always considered him the "Policeman's Policeman". He was loyal to the Chicago Police Department and I always felt he had best interests of the Chicago community and fellow Officers at heart. He conducted himself in accordance with highest standards of the Chicago Police Department. He was a gentleman and was known in the Police Community as an Officer who would always stand with his Officers.
If my soul was on the way to Heaven and Satan made one last attempt for my soul, Jon Burge would be the person I would want covering my back. So long friend. RIP Andy Christophersen, Retired Detective, Area Three Violent Crimes
When the police were the police !!!!
For those of us who support the police and faithfully read SCC but who know little about Jon Burge other than from dubious media snippets from years ago, can anyone provide links to more complete stories?
Rip Commander
He was a great man who was maligned by the evil and naive. Thank you for your service Sir. Your decades of devotion to this department and City will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace.
He was a great man who was maligned by the evil and naive. Thank you for your service Sir. Your decades of devotion to this department and City will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace.
I wonder how many of you commenters were even on the job 25 years ago when Burge left the job, or knew him, his reputation, worked for him or personally knew anyone who worked for him. Let sleeping dogs lay still.
Citizen reader: thank you for your military service and police service. You were the Shepard protecting the flock in the most dangerous city in the nation. You were the prince of the city to the law abiding and the enemy of the wolves. Condolences to you family.
To the begrudging of all the SJWs and how hard they tried, John Burge had his final days in his home, in sunny florida sourounded by family while still collecting a city pension... and most importantly, he died a free man his way!!! Sorry SJWs, you lost and he won. All your calls to lock him up in prison for life went unanswered and he went the way he wanted.
How many Millions were paid out to Shit heads that had no contact with him.
The lying political hack shyster Patrick Fitzgerald set Jon up for perjury. Remember Jon fondly, he was one of the best! And never forget the lying rat Pat Fitzgerald! A true democRAT, now making millions at one of Chicago's endless, cesspool of bottom feeder law firms.
A great and honorable man! This legend will be missed. I only wished I could have worked for him.
RIP sir!
RIP.
Of course Shortshanks sliped the noose again on this.
I remember the get together they had to support Mr. Burge at Teamster city. It was packed and loud! Overflowing crowds, great speeches,
a terrific show of support! We will never see anything like that again. R.I.P. The man was a true hero....
Jon Burge was a decorated Vietnam Veteran, wounded in combat and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was Mission Focused, at a time when you were Expected to begin the narrative of your report with: "While on Aggressive Patrol, we observed". All of the Commander's actions were reviewed by attorneys at Felony Review, and the State's Attorney at the time was "Mumbles" Lil Dick Daley. If Jon Burge did anything wrong, it was done with the full approval and cooperation of attorneys, some of whom went on to be judges in Cook County. I never had the privilege of working for Commander Burge, but the few times I met him, he was always a gentleman, and never arrogant or pretentious about his rank. He stood by his subordinates, and never betrayed them, or rolled on anyone. He was an outstanding Chicago Police Officer, and his Crew, flushed many pieces of shit down the toilet. May he Rest in Peace, he was a Great Cop and Leader of Police. Baby "G"
A great man. May the pols and media that smeared him go to hell
I find it both ironic and sad that he passed away the same week a police officer is on trial for doing his job. God bless Commander Burge, R.I.P. Boss. May God help this Department and City.
The Burge family wanted a little more time before his death was announced. However, Dean Angelo took it upon himself to announce the news to the media. Good old Dean always has an agenda.
To bad he didnt live to be 100 outliving all the scum bags he put in jail. Theres a place down below waiting for all the so called journalists and scumbag politicians that attempted to smear him. But all they got were trumped up perjury charges. RIP SIR
Burge and his detectives were smeared, I will agree.
But why the insult to today’s detectives?
The rules of the game have changed..this isn’t the 1970’s and 1980’s anymore. Today’s detectives are paying for the sins of yesterday’s detectives! Same for Patrol!
A fucking Prince....rip
For all you millennial coppers that wanna talk about all the action you saw and did over in the Middle East who don't know the meaning of the word Prince. Burge forgot more than you ever will do or can even think about doing AND he took care of his people.
Gone but not forgotten
Retired Det. from Area 2....not area south
Commander J. Burge and Commander J. Carroll. That’s two in the last few days. I hope that it’s not always in three? 🙏🏻
Rest In Peace.
The best thing ever for the feral jhetto thug was a never seen fairytale box.
It’s also became many attorneys cash box.
Pandering Politicians surrendered and the result is there is no longer any law and order.
These community settlements, reparations should end now.
Stay fetal until there’s Tort Reform.
Jon Burge was a great Police Officer and a better man!
I only WISH we had bosses like Jon around here, instead of a bunch of pansies and yes men who have never been the Police.
9 months & me and my wheel gun are outta here!
May GOD bless and watch over each and every one of you!
One of the best Police Officer that ever came on the job RIP
My friend
I worked for John when he was the Commander of the Bomb & Arson Unit. Good boss. He was fair with everyone. Never saw him abuse any offender. Never heard him give a order that was illegal, immoral, or against Department Rules and Regulations. God bless you John, now you have your peace.
Bosses
Most of today's bosses are the culprits of the shit were going through now in this shit department, I'm no angel either with 28 yrs on the job. I've met a lot of these so called by the book bosses, and let me tell you some of them great policemen back in the day. Today nothing but puppets to the machine and themselves. Had the pleasure of working for John Burge, great boss....REST IN PEACE BROTHER, THE PAIN IS OVER.
RIP Sir. We are still being dragged thru jagged glass, rocks and mud today for wearing this uniform that I still am so proud of after 25 years. All you did was try to find the monsters that preyed on the innocent and the way the city thanked you was by making you the MONSTER. May St. Michael welcome you with open arms boss You deserve it.
Rip sir. As you leave all the evil behind may you finally find everlasting peace. Thank you for your service.
Jon Burge's service to his country and his city will continue to be recognized by those of us who worked for him. RIP, sir, and Godspeed.
Great Boss , Rest in Peace Sir
did nothing wrong , libtards believe fkn drug dealing murders , arsonists , cop killers
I did not know him. I did attend a benefit for him years ago. He was a victim of lying, vicious lawyers and reporters. I hope he gets the peace and rewards in Heaven that he deserves. I hope those that wrongly persecuted him get to spend eternity with the devil.
Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Hey 11:03 To compare and minimize serving this country in a war zone to beating a tied prisoners is criminal. You should be ashamed to utter such nonsense. You obviously have no moral compass. Lost a lot of respect for the CPD if this is the feelings of even a small majority of the officers currently serving. Shame on you for that post.
A truly dedicated police officer. RIP
Jon Burge
Old school...was the best school.
Glad I attemded
Rest In Peace, Commander.

STFU jerk. I knew him otj and off. I knew people whom worked under his excellent leadership and loved the man. Also, I personally worked under the leadership of people whom were mentored and trained by him and subsequently were promoted. Phuque you.

The present crop of detectives will probably be able to enjoy their retirements knowing the feds aint going knock and hand them a subpoena 30 years later. RIP Burge. Be happy you worked in the era you did
Want to know what the job was like when Burge did his thing? Go to Amazon and look at a new book called "Walking Small." Then decide how hard you want to work and how far you want to stick your neck out.
Jon, May the road rise to meet you, May the wind always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face and until we meet again, May the Lord hold you in the palm of his hands. A Irish blessings.
I have known Jon Burge since he and I were in grammar school, playing sandlot baseball and football. I worked with him at Area Two, Bomb and Arson, and the old Area Three. He was an outstanding police officer, an honorable man, and a true friend, with balls of steel, who would lay down his life for a stranger. A better friend no man could have. The leftist scrum, including the media, have hounded him with false charges for over thirty years. The scum lawyers who have sued him may rot in hell. We know who they are. I am proud to have worked with Jon and to have known him as a friend for 62 years. May God bless you, Jon, and keep you all ways, always.
The city was alot safer place when Jon Burge was around, the only ones that felt his pain were responsible for many murders and sadly are now millionaires...RIP Commander
if you or your family were the victim of a violent crime....you would beg and pray that Jon and his crew were on your doorstep to help......you wouldn't even have to ask in those days.....they would respond on their own, without hesitation......always.....!!!
Every body has got to die.
Some who die make others safer with their death, aka, that mother fucker needed killing.
There are some who fear to face the truth, thus, look to others to do the work required.
Others benefit from work done, then bitch and moan, like the feebles they are.
Still others exploit the bitchers and the moaners and get reelected.
Fuck the feckless fucks, all of them.
All of this is known to be so true by those who face the truth and do not blink, do not flinch, do not hesitate and hold steady in their duty.
R.I.P.
Hey 4:43 note the signature
RETIRED DETECTIVE
Dumb ass.
The current state of CPD is every man for himself and coppers beefing on other coppers. If you think that's a "positive work environment" hurray for you
Meanwhile I'll be cashing my $6000 a month check from the pension fund plus my 3% raise every year.
But you got ahead and rent that divvy bike and pay $40 a day to park and then call the police when you are accosted by a shit head because you made yourself the perfect victim of a crime.
This scam by the lawyers and scapegoating John Burge was the beginning of what is quickly becoming a lawless city! These lawyers are responsible for the demise of a once awesome place to live, work, and raise a family! Congratulations to the POS attorneys, politicians, and blindsided citizens, sleep well at night!
A short version of the Jon legacy and just one example of the dedication of his detectives: ....a police officer left his house to go to a nearby gas station...did not return for several hours. Unusual for him. His brother a police officer reported it. No leads, no clues..No cameras in those days..nothing to go on. The brother P.O. reached out to Jon's detectives. The incident was completely out of their area.. detectives voluntarily responded ASAP. The officer was murdered and found in a burnt out van. Within hours...offenders in custody...remember...no leads, no clues..no nothing.....just working the streets......
Forgotten IS:...the thousands of victims and their families who were routinely helped by Jon and his detectives, day in, day out. No mention in the media of the victims of violence, and their families who these detectives helped on a daily basis....for many years...not to mention dealing with the most violent "worst of the worst" criminals on the streets.
R.I.P. Jon. You taught me how to be the police.
Did anyone ever consider the black victims who’s murder he vindicated by catching the offender? Or the family members that sleep knowing that the murderer was safely behind bars... Policing is ugly. Arresting offenders is ugly. Police who choose to assist in finding and arresting murderers should never be second guessed by those who have not walked in there shoes. Unless you like murders being unsolved, SHUT UP AND MIND YOUR BUISNESS
Rest In Peace,Commander Burge..
The Burge family wanted a little more time before his death was announced. However, Dean Angelo took it upon himself to announce the news to the media. Good old Dean always has an agenda.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Prick' like this PhD from a 1 star university should just go back under the rocks, Dean was a worthless copper that played the city and FOP for tons of money. Maybe he see' a free car somewhere ! Classless J.O all the way from day one otj. Screwed a quite a few copper' otj prior to FOP. He is one of the thousand reasons FOP should be kicked out.
RIP Dear Cmdr. J.B, the Good Lord know you served the citizens right. Hoping all these blood sucking c.s.ing lawyers choke on a catfish bone.
Reap in peace Commander.... you are respected by the working policeman.
Sadly, today - we have policemen and policewomen who wear the detective star, but are not “detectives”.
Timeprecludedme from having the pleasure of working with you. I did have the honor of working with some of the detectives you lead.
J.P.
TONY
OB
Some of the finest men I have ever met.
Our loss.
This city is in trouble.
The last 10 years of cpd detectives are terrible. I have a guy that wont leave area 002 if wind is blowing or rain, it will mess his hair up. Another guy is taking his kids to school, picking up dry cleaners, cooking dinner, cutting grass, etc.
John we need more detectives like you, just give me one like you.
Troll reader: Jon Burge reminded me in a way of the character Dirty Harry. He earned his job and was charged with fighting crime in lawless areas of this city. When he was successful people disapproved of his methods. They called him old fashioned and out of step and all kinds of names. But he got results and for that I as a citizen, will always remember that fact. Burge and his so called Midnight Crew by morose journalists and crummy lawyers in this city who also made money with staggering crime rates can STFU. I remember him as being instrumental in bringing the vicious and notorious criminals to justice despite the efforts of some of the community and was happy to see justice prevailed. I opine and believe Jon Burge is at peaceful rest and may God bless him. Stupid journalists can go ask lousy political candidates how much they pay for bread, milk and hair cuts while the state sinks to oblivion.
Jon was a good man. He knew the truth.
What was the clearance rate for Detectives under his command? What is our clearance rate now?

Where is the validity to your accusations? I know you don’t have any proof. There isn’t any, never was and never will be. It was never proven anywhere in any court, that he and his Detectives tortured anybody. You should be ashamed of yourself for being a naive, spineless, little lamb. Take your respect and shove it where the sun don’t shine. As far as moral compasses go, the Commanders always pointed true north.

Not true, Carroll not dead, still miserable about being dumped 10 years ago.
He's on the Sea Love 111 gettin All Mooned Up
The liberal media enjoyed slandering him and the liberal prosecutors enjoyed charging him, but nothing was said of the hundreds of criminals he put behind bars and made the city safer. The lives he saved by putting the scourge behind bars. The only interviews was from criminals and we all know they aren’t liars, because the media believes a criminal over a policeman, makes for great sensationalism. Were there techniques used to get the scourge to confess probably, but maybe not too different than the government uses on terrorists. He saved innocent people from brutal criminals which their acts are like terrorism. Ponder this, does the media believe a life long criminal only commits a single crime as opposed to only getting caught for one?
RIP, your career wasn’t in vain because I’m sure ever boss was proud at that time when police could actually accomplish a mission. A mission of cleaning up the streets as opposed to today.
RIP Cmdr. Burge!!! One of the best fundraisers that I ever attended was the B.O.Y. (Burge, O'hara, Yucaitis)sp?.. The media was all up in arms at that time also, F them!!! Planted themselves outside FOP and we just laughed at them!!!
RIP Sir. Go fly with the angels
Fahey and O'Brien thank you Commander for getting the Wilson brothers put away for 20 + years.I worked with both officers in Area 1 SOG and then again 15 years later he was my Watch Commander in 012 District and was a GREAT BOSS. One on only a FEW bosses with BALLS who backed up the officers under his command, R.I.P. Commander , You were the REAL POLICE
Joe McCarthy SR. another prince. Fucked by the city as most are.
He's up there in Heaven now I bet, ridding the place of assholes with warrants.
May you enjoy your heavenly reward, Jon! God bless you and your family.

And whose fault is that? Step up supervisors!!
I want to thank everyone who took the time to share all the kind words and memories regarding my brother, Jon Burge. Because he was five years younger than me I regarded him in the early years as my “little brother”. In time, however, he became, and will always be, MY HERO. Thanks again, Jeff Burge
Sorry for your loss Jeff.
RIP Commander!
I refuse to allow the last utterly disrespectful comment to be the final send off to my dear brother-in-law, Jon.
Savoring the comments and knowing Jon was so highly regarded and respected, provided Jeff and me with a peace and respite from the circus of the last six days and for that I thank you.
I will miss your heart, your head and your spirit dear Jon. God speed!
The comment in question was removed.
RIP Commander Jon G. Burge.
You earned it.
