- Fifth-grader Henry Klucznik has a lot to look forward to this school year, his last in elementary school at St. Benedict’s Preparatory School on the North Side.
Though he’s only a few weeks into the new year, the 10-year-old is already involved in cross country and will be part of the school’s math club. He’s also learned what to do in the event that an armed intruder shows up at the North Center parochial school, which recently spent nearly $90,000 on a security system designed to quickly notify police if an active shooter is on church or school premises.
The more than 700 students enrolled at St. Ben’s this year were greeted by 30 new bright blue pull boxes on the walls, fixtures installed because of concern about the possibility of a deadly school shooting. The school also spent $40,000 on new security cameras.
- (12 Sept 2017) Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich has issued a decree banning guns in all parishes, schools and other facilities across the archdiocese.
The decree, effective Thursday, echoes statements the cardinal has made over the past two years in support of banning guns from churches. It stipulates that anyone found with a gun on archdiocesan property will be asked to remove it from the premises and won't be allowed to return until it's gone. Clerics and staff members also will face disciplinary action.
So did the parishioners over at St. Ben's get ripped off? No one would dare defy the decree of a Catholic Church Cardinal, right? That would be like, we dunno, covering up for a bunch of pedophiles or something.

I'm not sure exactly when the progressive, marxists took over the Catholic Church, but they certainly have at this point. It's a damn shame, they have very few real men left in those pews and of those, they've made sure you'd better shut up or be ostracized by the radical, anti-American elements. When the Cardinal made that decree, I thought it was bullshit. When I did the CCW training, I believe state law already band CC in churches. Posturing.

Just wondering, does the Cardinal's ban on gun's include cops who are on & off duty? These rules "never" cease to amaze me with their rationale. So the ones that will cause tragic and horrific damage are the ones who carry guns with "no authority" and don't give a shit what law, rule, or prohibition they violate. They don't care about "anyone's" life! Yet these idiots, Cardinal included, put laws on lawful gun owners who could stop a tragedy. Just thinking out loud, just how big is the Cardinals protection team and are they armed? We can save a lot of money in this country by just making rules prohibiting gun use and get rid of all the armed security details. Yeah like gun control has stopped any crime!!! ROFLMAO!!!

I went to St. Ben’s when it was just a working class neighborhood school. Now that school costs as much as a private high school for a grade school leftist indoctrination program . Pathetic.
I remember what I told a fellow 5'th grader back in grammar school day's.

Hats off to Reverent Paul Kalchik of Resurrection Catholic Church for standing up for what is morally right on gays in the church. It's against God's law in the scriptures as contained in the bible .The rainbow flag has no place in the church, and is a piece of gay propaganda the Rev' was morally right in burning it despite Cupich's orders not to destroy it. Cupich ,and Pope Francis are welcoming of gays in the Catholic Church, and both are in need of being removed from the church . Myself, and my family no longer support the Catholic Church, and will not for as long as these two are part of the Catholic Church!
I guess Blase doesn’t know that at my children’s Catholic elementary school that we just initiated a safety program utilizing volunteer off-duty police to patrol the campus every day. And yes, they are armed. Daily, we usually get two to three officers - and the support from the parents to do this was HUGE. Blase best not sniff around our school. On second thought, he’s too busy avoiding the whole pedophile issue.
I'm sorry but I have to ask all the good Catholic CPD officers out there. Why? Why follow a church that has a leadership that makes the CPD leadership look good. The church has been proven crooked from the very top all the way down, and yet there you are. Have not seen or heard of any other organized religion having this many serious problems for so long. Re: the question about when the Catholic Church got corrupted by dirty rotten power worshipers--global level Catholicism has always been that way, going all the way back to time of Constantine I. The American branch wisely toned that shit down for several centuries, but they're evidently going old-school these days and it probably won't end well. Maybe the local cardinals just got tired of being too heterodox to win a papal election.
I grew up with staunchly Catholic parents. Criticizing the Church was never a thought. I never thought I would feel this way, but Cupich really irritates me. He is as far left as you can go. And the Pope’s comments on pedophile priests and their accusers is absolutely sickening. No “Catholic appeal “ money from my family this year. Done!
My kid attended a north side Catholic grammar school near St. Ben’s. I carried in both the church and the school. I sat in parent meetings, teacher conferences, and even a chat with the peace-symbol draped guidance counselor with a loaded and chambered firearm. I knew the rules but refused to be vulnerable. The kids are trained to never discuss Mom’s CCW. And a .380 conceals nicely under yoga pants and a sweater.

I've read his actual order. Off duty law enforcement are specifically excluded from the gun ban.
Cupich needs to go. He doesn't belong in a position like Cardinal-Archbishop of Chicago! Get out!!!
