So how does a "merit" pick for detective, submitted by a Commander who should have been in jail himself seven or eight times by our count, manage to piss hot the first week of training?
Perhaps the "Merit" Board would like to explain how this choice was (A) allowed in the first place and (B) what outstanding example of police work he accomplished that we should all aspire to?

Speaking of Merit morons, could someone please tell the 025th district Commander to start taking days off when he has divorce court? It seems like every time he has divorce court he has to come in to work at the station and throw his weight around like he's some big tough guy. Rumor has it that his child support check deductions, through CDU, got finalized this month. So of course he is in an even worse mood then usual now that he has less play money to buy My Little Pony dolls with. Don't take it out on us Escamerit because your home life sucks. You should have spent less time laying around in your underwear and listening to your scanner, and more time getting your personal life in order. What's it like making about the same amount of money as a patrolman after kissing ass for all those merit promotions?

You know you’re going to piss hot and you still take the promotion knowing you’re going to get tested? He probably deserves to get fired with those decision making skills.
Why would you even do it, you know the test is coming, you know we can’t do those things. Do rules really not matter to those in power. So stupid.

It happened to an arson dick in the early 2000's. After a football weekend, he comes to work and he's told to go down for a wee test. Prior to the notification, he's asked by a his sup if he needs to take TD. He still went for the wee test and pissed hot for cocaine. He claimed some medication his dentist gave him caused the test to be positive for cocaine. He was fired with 15yrs on the job. How can you bullshit yourself and fuck up your family has always puzzled me. There's a lot of delusional fuck heads on this job and it's getting worse.

Why should theyvit shows a corrupt process against someone, I assume your buddy, who does not care about the rules and chooses to uses substances that would cause one to piss hot. In that district how many hard working people put in for merit. Most likely they never made any waves came to work on time every day worked hard, treated people the right way, maybe went above and beyond on a regular bases, but because they don’t have the juice they will never get a whiff of a merit promotion.
Disclosure, I’m not a fan of merit promotions but I’d they exist at least they should go to the working coppers.

hey ssc this reminds of when i was back in 025 (now 016) about 20 years we had a worthless female po ( house mouse) get promoted to detective and she pissed hot (weed) nobody was really surprise well amyways she was 30 pending for a year but as usual she had clout and justice prevailed she was given her job back promoted to det, and given back pay at the d2a rate
as we always say its all legit and on the up n up

I tend to disagree with the above post. There are many officers that did some great work over the years. The work slow down happened because of Rahm Emmanuel, Gary McCarthey and special Ed. The merit pick is a good guy, he is good at getting people to laugh. But, he is an adult and he has less then 15 years on the job, he should have known better. Ed had many qualified and deserving candidates to choose from, his ego got the best of him, he made choices based on race and clout. Every commander knows that it is easier to get a person of color promoted regardless of how good their resume is. So, bubble heads ego got the best of him. So, he can brag about how he got so many police officers promoted, regardless of if they are the best candidate or not. This guy that tested hot, is a nice guy and not a bad person, but he actually never did quality work to deserve a merit bump. 012 still has many well deserving candidates that would deserve the merit bump, but of course no clout. Typical city bs. This job is in the tank.
How did this happen you ask. Well this officer just offered the most dollars for the merit bump. Not about Clout, or doing a better job then anyone it is about dollars in the nominators pockets. As always just follow the money trails.

Ah yes, another jagoff who judges what’s “police work” and what’s not. He made you laugh and feel good, and good ole Kulbida was out of people to pick from so he submitted this guy. Granted there are a lot of clouted and special assholes in 012, doesn’t mean there wasn’t anyone to pick from. There are a couple handfuls of good working coppers that aren’t special enough to even get considered for this BS merit process. So, if you do work there, maybe you should speak up and say something, or better yet, nominate yourself for merit since you must be the “working police”! Besides, that crook Fast Eddie should be locked up for all his thieving antics, so stop sticking up for him. And as far as this officer; he just threw his career away on a very bad decision. There was once a small group that had their test results thrown out because there was no chain of custody on the sample. They all got back pay.
Believe it or not some of these merit detectives really feel like they’re cream of the crop. Last week a merit from 009 gave the class a lecture of how difficult and intricate the “situation room” was and how only the best and brightest were assigned to stare at cameras all day. I almost burst with laughter when she explained her previous duties of drafting “weekly” power point presentations and generating metrics for the commander and lts. All the while I wondered how she was managed to breath let alone brief her presentations with all that meat in her mouth.
Continuing to speak of a wonderful merit pick: 006 1st watch Sgt. JE is boosting morale with every roll call! Generating CRs against PPOs for nonsense, threatening to spar people for not shaving, wearing white shirts underneath etc. Excellent way to kick off cancelled RDOs and daily tour extensions boss! Shouldnt you be kicking in someones door??
There should be no such thing as MERIT or MANAGEMENT positions, Promotions should be based on test scores ONLY, not this bull shit merit political bull shit, or ass kissing management nonsense. Get your seniority, sorry you have to kiss ass to get promoted !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

– as I recall wayyyyyyyy before your 20 years, it was about 1988-89 that “worthless po” came to a 10-1 at an battled along with the rest of us trying to separate a large group of drunken party adults, she was on tact back then.
Was by no means worthless. We were all young and we all get old, sick, tired and maybe wind up on the desk, even in 025.
Even with the headset and reading glasses, she was the balls and brains on that desk, a bit salty, took no bs, but the real police...at one time not a house mouse.

Yes,that is true. But, the back story to this event is one of the folks who tested hot was related to the head of the police board, a very powerful southside reverend. It was not a chain of custody problem at all, but the fact the administrative rights were not given. The decision to reinstate the officers was an administrative one, not a court ordered event. They had chain of custody problems at first, but no one's job was effected. The Chief of Organized Crime resigned rather then take a urine test.
