Bad Casino Plan

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Wednesday floated a port district site on the Far Southeast Side as the possible location for a Chicago casino, if state lawmakers finally grant the city the long-sought gambling palace.

In a meeting with the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board, Emanuel noted his “love-hate” relationship with the idea of a casino but said if the city finally builds one it should be away from the Loop and McCormick Place. Instead, he said it should bring economic development to an area of the city that needs it, before floating an Illinois International Port District site near Pullman as “an example.”
Sure. Go somewhere where there's absolutely zero economic attraction to the neighborhood. What a great fucking idea! Why bother having it near the downtown or convention areas where tourists looking for dinner and a show might head over and spend a little money - Chicago can build it near an EPA Superfund site AND the second most homicide prone area of the city and reap the benefits!

A quick Google search shows exactly what type of idea this would be:
Casinos tend to make money for the shareholders, not the communities they occupy. And a Chicago casino would be extremely late to the party making us wonder what, if any, monetary impact there might be on our pension fund. Not that Chicago shouldn't try - but try harder than this guaranteed failure.

UPDATE: Exhibit A: Comiskey Park (or whatever they call it now) - bad product in a bad neighborhood with pretty much zero curb appeal.

The problem is not with the casinos or the location. It’s with the fact that the city will not open a Casino that is under the control of the Illinois Gaming board. The insist that the state allow them to create a Chicago gaming board with members appointed by the Mayor to watch over the hiring and firing of everyone from the dealers to the maintenance contracts (google Simon). The city which is dirty as Sh#t wants to compile an appointed board to make sure everything is on the up and up. Can you say DV Urban gaming tables?

Isn’t that the same area where they wanted to finally build us an outdoor range but supposedly found an eagles nest by the river so Rahm said no? Even though all he had to do is get a special permit from the federal government. Even after being cleared by numerous “environmental and noise impact studies” that the anti-police and anti-gun groups and environmentalists and “activists” threw at us. Are the environmental nut jobs and community activists going to put up legal roadblocks and demand impact studies for a casino and hotels? Yeah right. If you believe that then I can get you a great deal on wood fire escapes. Something smells funny and it’s not the Little Calumet river.

And speaking of Rahm: The Tucker Carlson Show (FOX News) Thur. 13 Dec 18 (the segment is now on youtube and is about 20 minutes into the program if you don't want to watch the whole show). "Is A Chicago Judge Siding With Criminals?" A former prosecutor comments about a murder case in Judge Carol B. Howard's courtroom "Room 203 set them free" in which she finds 3 defendants not guilty after disregarding the evidence. And Rahm's approach to funding the pension crisis by destroying its citizens lives with drugs and gambling. Watch it, you will enjoy it especially knowing Rahm and Howard won't!!!

Put that casino on the old south works site in South
Chicago. Lake front property and easy access to downtown
or Indiana. Build it and they will come . What a waste of great
lakefront property. And screw the shareholders, the city should
be the only shareholder or owner. Security should be the Chicago
Police Department (off duty) in uniform and scale wages. And hire
Chicago residents. Win Win situation. And be cigar friendly .

Exactly!! All valid points, also why attempt to build a casino so close to 2 Indiana casinos? Who is going to want to travel to the east side to gamble? There is a reason the Rivers is the most profitable casino in Illinois, 1. Easy access off 294, 2. Right next to shopping, sports venue and dining. Its not located in a crime ridden neighborhood..............Plus we all know anytime they try to generate any new kind of revenue stream, the money never goes to what it was created for.

And, if they do build it, who is going to go to the southeast side of the side. The only thing that will happen is that the casino will dry up the SSI and welfare checks of the local neighbors.

When can we stop trying to hand everything to communities that shit all over it?

You want a Target store? Target opens a store. It loses more money than feasible to stay open, so it needs to close. Well closing it is racist apparently. So march on a store that is bleeding revenue to stay open. Own worst enemy.

And this city bends over backwards to give certain communities every opportunity, and yet those same communities don’t care.
The taxpayers are tired of funding this nonsense. Seriously.

Do something that makes sense for a fucking change, and fund the pensions in the process.
Or give the south side a walking ATM from patrons leaving the casino.
Just wait until 6 weeks after it’s open some tourist gets killed in a robbery attempt, that’d be GREAT national news.
You’re already bringing the problems downtown, why not just bring the victims to them?

Only in Chicago would they put a major draw for locals with extra spending money, and out of towners looking to throw money away, in the ghetto.

Ideal Location..City can utilize existing infrastructure to move this proposal forward.

1. Casino can be located on the abandoned grain boat that has been slowly sinking for the last ten years.
2. Abandoned grain silos can be restructured as an adventure location for the unwitting.
3. Hunting licenses can be offered to those that want to shot and kill the large rats inhabiting the location.
4. These ideas can be adopted by Chicago Port Authority commissioners, who will then demand that they deserve a large bump in their compensation for making all this possible.

Lots of money to be raised by the legalization of the gateway drug of choice marijuana. Lots of compulsive, degenerate gamblers who fool themselves always are on the winning streak putting their families financial well being on the line.

Government and specifically politicians are all about the money and the power derived from all that money. And yes, politicians get rich too! Lots of contract for the chosen by the political anointed. Its a win-win for the party-in-control's ruling elite.

The real gangsters created the pension crisis by not investing properly, borrowing against it, and not keeping it funded as mandated by state law, now they are using the "crisis" to justify higher taxes, casinos, and legal cannabis. Even if these "solutions" generated the money we need to have a subtainable pension no way the gangsters will ever fund the pension. They will always find more ways to bankrupt the system while lining their pockets, example; how and why does Chicago need to get involved with 1-2 billon dollar deal with musk to drill a tunnel from ohare to downtown, in the last couple months of a mayor no one wants? there should citywide protests about this one!

Chicago needs an income tax.

Casinos will generate nothing -- we are saturated with gambling and the trend is to close casinos (see Atlantic City problems).

Legalized drugs will generate next to nothing -- the black market of untaxable drugs will only expand as they become legal, and the government will not be able to compete.

City income tax is, along with property tax jacks, the only solution.

Taxpayers won't mind. After all, they keep voting for Dems.

There are 10 casinos licensed by the state containing around 10,000 slot machines total, these slot machines account for roughly 80% of the casino's revenue with table games bringing in the remaining 20% .As of November 2018 there are 30,735 VGT (slot machines) located outside of casinos in the state (taverns, restaurants and alike) this was the equivalent of opening 30 new casinos in the state. Casino revenue has been dropping ever since the state allowed slot machines off site. Notice how no other community is asking for a casino license anymore? No financial backers due to declining revenue but Chicago politicians are willing to bet your pension on what they see as a sure bet.

It has to be downtown to be successful. It will attract shoppers, visitors for pleasure, suburban people who are dining, local business people and most importantly people in town for business or pleasure. Being downtown is the attraction! It’s the atmosphere and optics of it. It’s also very convenient. Traveling outside downtown is not convenient and very unappealing. No one will drive, cab or take CTA to leave their hotel or the atmosphere of downtown for a Southside casino. If I were at a show or dinner downtown with my wife we may consider stopping in at a downtown casino but would never travel south after a show to go to one. We’d be heading home. Rahm is not a very savy business man if he doesn’t know this. No other casino can compete with a downtown casino. It’s unique. What a dope

Poster 12:5 AM is 100% correct. It will not happen. The Illinois Gaming Commission will not give up control to the city. Until this occurs, put a fork into it. The City wants to control the contracts, who gets what position, and who manages the money. The State will not give that up. Sorry boys and girls not going to happen

Put a few head shops for the legalized marijuana nearby .

Build on polluted land (it’s for the Kids) or condemn the land, force Finkl & Sons back out again, take in big EPA cleanup sub-contracts and then find out 20 years from now who actually owns the land Lame Phuck Rahm wants to peddle.
Sterling Bay might be eyeing a deal destined to fail, if the get that TIF down payment upfront again.

No surprise Alderthief Beales likes the idea.. corrupt land grabber probably put down 30¢ an acre for the entire shithole lot into a trust.
Remember that quick close Michael Reese Hospital scam, taxpayers might still be paying the nut for a losing deal gone sour.

All of a sudden Rahm has all the solutions. Never mind he made all his uninherited money while being in an elected position and of course with the help of financial board appointments by The Clintons. Rahm the Finance Wiz Kid doesn’t have a basic economics minor let alone an MBA, no background in city planning or even poli-sci background. Some reformer, like Prickwrinkle.

Far more than making money, casinos function best to LAUNDER money. While it is decent paying JOBS that will help an area grow economically, and of course BANKERS will cha ching and cha ching, the politicians are starting to see that this monster has grown so much that technology itself risks them being exposed. Face it, people can track money better than ever before. Risk of being caught is HIGH.

Add a new upgrade to the Machine and buy some more time. Laundry machine in particular added buys even more time. This is why putting it in "bad" neighborhoods is advantageous to their ends. Placed there, it is harder to watch the goings on from outside s it pertains to comings and goings. It also aids the couriers because it is tough for low rent flunky couriers to not look out of place in "good" neighborhoods.

I worked with some of the casinos years ago when Chicago was first talking about a licence.
Sever points were brought up.
1. Chicago ain't ready for reform. The state must oversee the casino, just like all the others. Security has be done in house and they can hire CPD officers part time
.
2. The casino MUST be in a central location where conventioneers can stop by and play. The money they bring in is icing on the cake.

3. Any airport gaming must be done on a small scale, no casino at the airport, just slots.

4. The casino would not cost the taxpayers a dime. For a contract most gaming corporations would front the money. No need to steal TIF money from the schools.

I would add that video machines in the ward would also bring in a boatload of cash. In little Morton Grove, the tax revenue if about $5,000 a month, just to the village!

And of course, the money from gaming of any kind should go to shore up the pension plans, not replace the money the city contributes.

All the while most recent bashing the COLA and how it’s not fair to give retirees “raises”, Rahm has failed to mention why.
Trumponomics has kept inflation at near zero. Shitfaced liar Rahm seems to think Cost of Living is low,and stagnant. He bragged to have saved millions by eliminating healthcare for retirees and won’t mention policies, doctor, pharm and testing costs have risen.
Even thinks the gasoline retirees need to drive to a doctor is cheap enough to tax the shit out of it.

Besides all that, RottenRahm is pushing through his legacy showpiece with the fast tracking of the very expensive scam artist Elon MuskRat tunnel. Billions at stake, if Rahm owns any Boring stock, expect him to sell it off and avoid the value plummet after the first chunk of bedrock stalls the project. Destined to be another taxpayer nightmare as far as fantasy infrastructure goes.
Apparently they’re half way through the environmental study, so Rahm is ready to ink that deal before he leaves in May 2019.

Maybe you get some bullshit points. Maybe you get to eat some "Hospital and Correctional Grade" food at the Buffet. Golly gee!

Nothing but unwashed assholes, bustouts and trailer park freaks at the one in DesPlaines. Talk to Billy Kushner one day, he'll tell you what kind of fuckery and foolery goes on in there.

Then you have slots in every tavern, 7-11 and nail joint going up to the Wisconsin border.

You had 4 race tracks and now you have one. Full of crickets.

The Powerball and Mega and about 75 different scratch off games.

And I have no use for any one of them.

Casino's do attract the undesirables amongst us. That explains why RAHM and Prickster wants one so bad!

Yes, Chicago is late to the casino party. If it was going to be built, it should have been built ten years ago, but I am sure shortshanks was not going to get a big enough cut from it, otherwise he would have rammed it through the legislature. And, if they do build it, who is going to go to the southeast side of the side. The only thing that will happen is that the casino will dry up the SSI and welfare checks of the local neighbors.

Or were the Indiana casinos greasing the fifth floor to protect their gambling interests from heading to Chicago.

6"2-am, hate to tell U, but Indiana is not the savings it used to be. I honestly shop in will or dupage county for smokes, gas and groceries.

12/15/2018 01:49:00 AM

That will change with the new gas tax

The Sox do not have a tourist attraction and have had worse management than the CPD.

I disagree, the Sox have great management, they finagled the deal where their rent is based on attendance, they keep all the concessions and parking and advertising revenue generated in the park. All this to counter their bullshit threat to leave Chicago and move to St. Petersburg Florida. Ever drive by the park where the Rays now play. Ever figure out how much people on fixed incomes can pay to go see a ball game. Geniuses are what's made the Illinois Sports Authority a laughing stock.

The White Sox have cunning management. Jim Thompon is a disingenuous asshole for assisting in the scheme against the taxpayers of Illinois.

considering the $ involved city hall connected types have sugar plums dancing in their heads at the thought, its all part of Rahms exit strategy just as legalizing dope and saying what a good idea it would be to change the state constitution so the can lower pension benefits (because they never funded the pension properly) so when the city ends up in bankruptcy he can just say "if they would have done as I suggested this wouldn't have happened" But oh wait didn't Rahm solve the pension problem getting the state to delay actually funding them? in fact did he not release a letter from the mayors office telling everyone the problem was solved back in July of 2017 ?
