FOP, Start Educating the Public (UPDATE)
Rahm is pushing to open a Constitutional Convention. Madigroin will support it. JaBba the Pritzker is likely to start pushing as soon as he gets in. And Rahm is already prepping the battlefield.
Can someone from FOP start countering his arguments about the COLA that isn't available to anyone born after 1966? That the Police and Fire Funds are so poorly funded because First Responders can't strike to make the City meet its obligations? That other unions get 80% of their salaries upon retirement with all sorts of "sweeteners"? That teachers still only pay something like 2% instead of the nearly 11% first responders do?
And how about that "gold braid" pension - once that went into place, CPD went from 6 [deputy] chiefs to 18 (corrected), captains came back and the number of commanders citywide almost doubled? The rank-and-file aren't the problem, but the massive financial abuse might be.
UPDATE: This is a start....a tiny tiny start (click for larger version):
Yay. A press release. Now....how many press outlets published it? We'll give you a hint....it's a number LESS than ONE.
We saw Rahm's statements about the COLA and him subtly hinting it involved the police/fire pensions on two TV stations, heard it on the radio twice an hour, and on every single local news link we carry on the right hand side of the blog. Versus a single half-page press release that no one carried.
FOP, we hate to say this, but you've already lost the battlefield to Rahm - make sure you don't lose the fucking pensions.

Rahm can go eat a bag of dicks and Pritzker...well, he looks like he already did. More than once.
Suburban officers in tier 1 get 3% cola, compounded, but max out at 75% of salary after 30yrs. Apparently CPD is in a different pension system if you guys don't get 3% colas. Retired guys will obviously fight via court any attempts at reducing the cola.
Some pensions are 3% cola per year, compounded. It's nothing like ours. Lucky them.
It's kind of funny that these goofs are suggesting a gas tax that's higher than what's sparked London's nonsense. Not like anything will happen here tho.
Flatten the org. chart! Should go back to the days of Supt., First Deputy and four ADSs. How about Captains run each watch as "Watch Commander" (get rid of the bloated DSS position) and Lt.s hit the street to oversee Sgt.s that supervise each sector? Won't ever happen, but it should.
And....our COLA is not 3% compounded like he claimed!!!
None of that matters. The only thing that that does is that the Illinois Supreme Court has struck down once before the attempts by Emanuel to change and reduce the pensions. This city cannot get rid of this rat soon enough. His lame duck efforts will fail again.
Supposedly Pritzker is going against Rahm on this one. At least for now but we'll see how it plays out
If teachers want to strike that's fine. Whenever you see them, and they can be from anywhere, the parents are always supportive when interviewed, they usually say we will just have to make do with our kids while the strike is on. You have the videos of the students bringing them hot chocolate and donuts. Do you think the citizens would be supportive of any police that went on strike. Of course not, they would screaming about their safety. One thing that the Chicago teachers should be doing is paying more than 2% when everyone else is paying more into pensions.
CPS needs to start enforcing there residency rule . If they quit going by the don’t ask don’t tell mentality over at the board along with the deaf, dumb and blind enforment by principals 1000 s (thousands) of jobs due to residency would open up. What a shame.
They just voted themselves a $200.00 pay raise so there time will be devoted to how to spend the money so that they can justify there next pay increase. Why do these do nothing assholes get paid in the first place let alone deserve a pay raise?
Rahm has been mayor for almost eight years and now he wants to fix the pension. What a prick. He pissed away billions of dollars on bullshit instead of paying the cities bills. Most corupt mayor in Chicago's history.
With all the talk about the pension fund going bust, do yourself a favor and find other ways to invest in your retirement. Open a Roth at your bank. If you are married and your significant other works, have them take advantage to whatever their employer offers in retirement funding. And if the employer matches, then by all means put in as much as you can afford. Same goes for Deferred Comp. Max out as soon as possible. Take advantage of the offer by the credit union and sit down with one of their financial planners. It costs nothing but a little of your time and they can show you ways of planning for your retirement that you may have never considered. Never just rely on your pension.
Let’s not forget all the pensions Not just to the gold braid but also to the people who are on the details like the mayors detail the city clerks detail some of the other aldermanic and Secret details the city treasurers detail they are all getting sergeants pensions some getting commanders pensions so there’s more gold braid right there I know it’s not as much is the exempts but it still takes an unfair amount from the hard-working Street coppers pensions who deserve it. So being a political hack pays big dividends!
Rahm hates our guts and blames us for all of his failures, he’s going to show us what Chicago politics is all about. Destruction for all of those that oppose the machine.
And our COLA isn’t calculated using compounded interest.
Simple interest only.
The cocksucker keeps saying we get a compounded COLA.
Democrats do not want people educated.
Why is Rham all the sudden pushing for all this on his way out the door ? Does any reporter even ask why with a few months to go all the sudden he wants to solve all the issues he did nothing about ?
FOP do something, not fucking likely, totally useless frat union. Time to go in another direction.
Do those who hold an office get a pension? If so, that’s what needs to be removed. Right?
Why do they never talk about reducing the aldermanic pensions? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?
If they change pension benefits for persons already retired will they let you back on to accumulate for time to make up for any reductions? If they are going to change the rules then they need to allow for it. Besides I thought the pension issue was resolved with the new laws implemented in 2011? How much lower are they going to lower it? Even if they make a change aren't those retired still grandfathered in?
Why would anyone come on this job unless they are living in a cave and don't have internet/media access?
OT
Does anyone know what happened in Judge Cohen's court room yesterday? Did they finalize payments for retiree healthcare?
They need to get rid of the gold braided pension. The fire department excepts only get what they would have made at their career rank for their pension.
Time to dump the FOP already. They won't make waves, because they were told not to.
He claims that our pensions are compounded, which is an outright lie. The FOP remains silent. This battle is going to be won in the court of public opinion, because people in the state will vote on it. We already lost if we leave it up to the FOP.
That is almost as bad as the school teachers. Where I live they now have a principle and assistant principal for just 7th and 8th grade. And a assistant principal for each lower grade. Then they complain there is a shortage of teachers. And this is a small school district.
when was the last time a pension payment was made by the city?
has the 11% you guys fork over actually make it to the fund?
how are the pension funds i see as line items on the property tax bill doing?
that nine fingered fraud is so full of shit.
somebody needs to get in there to open the books.
They need campaign style commercials to educate the public who will determine if this comes to pass by voting on it. Have you ever read some of the public's comments about pensions? They view us a greedy little donuts eaters that want to mooch off the public's dime when we retire. Going to take a big effort to change the opinion. The Mayor is already working on it and has the upper hand already. Be prepared for pensions to be slashed, and where to apply for public aid. In spit of this they still will not let you collect 100% of your social security if you qualify. Believe that.
State FOP is nothing more than another arm of the Democrat Party. Don’t hold your breath hoping they’ll speak up.
Teachers currently pay a lower % because at one time they were offered "a pension pick up" instead of a raise in salary that was sorely needed. CTU too the offer.
Top needs to start attacking these abusive high pensions for appointed command staff. This is one thing draining the pension. For years no one said anything. It is a reward for the politically connected. The publisher should know these hacks are getting 130 thousand a year and taxpayers are picking up the bill
Fop what about starting a campaign stopping command pensions
And unless it ended up on the cutting room floor, graham didn’t correct the falsehood of the 3% compounded cola.
Emanuel kept reiterating the “compounded” cola spin to promote his plan of making us the bad guys in all of this mess.
The public needs to be informed that not everybody gets the cola, the cola is NOT compounded & that we pay into the pension!
When I first walked into the academy 32+ years ago, I filled out all the paperwork stating that the city was taking a percent of my check to deposit into the pension fund but that I’d be compensated with a pension after so many years.
This was not an option!!!
Contributing to the pension fund was mandatory and now we’re being made out to be the bad guys even though we held up our end of the deal!
Be Safe!!
Time for the FOP to start an advertising campaign against this. Maybe rent a billboard or maybe run some commercials on the radio etc. I'm not sure any of these are the answer to the mayor but it would begin to put some FACTS out there.
D.T.M.W.2.D
Police Officers DESERVE a contract and a raise!
We need to do at least 4 things to solve the pension problem:
1. Legalize Weed.
2. Chicago Casino.
3. Allow municipalities to file for bankruptcy.
4. Amend the Constitution.
Legalizing weed and getting the Chicago Casino are good ideas and should be done but would not generate near enough money to solve the problem.
Bankruptcy? This is desperately needed, particularly by smaller towns like Harvey, North Chicago, Springfield, Rockford, etc. But it would require the legislature in Springfield to authorize it.
Amend the Constitution? The problem has grown so large that NO AMOUNT of tax increases and NO AMOUNT expense reduction can solve the problem. Further, the problem is neither lack of taxpayer contributions, nor inadequate rate of return on invested capital. The problem is that the BENEFITS PROMISED (Madigan) are simply too large. Math doesn't care what you do for a living or your political affiliation. Math is Math.
JB Toilet immediately came out yesterday against amending the Constitution.
Madigroin? He's been in ofc over 40 years and supported many of these benefit increases. He could have many times pulled on the leash of this thing to get/keep it under control but he is too much of a whore for votes and campaign contributions. Plus, there's an old saying, never rely on the person who got you into a problem to get you out of a problem.
And even if JG and Madigroin don't turn around and come on board, the bond market may force them too. Chicago and Illinois are now one step above junk rating. If one or both gets downgraded to junk, the party is over and they're frozen out of the bond market. Which means we're fucked. Bankruptcy will follow soon thereafter. How do you think the pension funds would fair in a bankruptcy? The word haircut comes to mind.
Police and fire will certainly not like to see their benefits reduced. Neither would I. But at the of the day, you can either have a guaranteed portion of a lesser something, or do nothing and watch the whole thing head towards a guaranteed collapse. Because math is math.
Personally, I don't give a fvck either way. I'm moving out of Illinois and taking my business with me.
To the unpublished asshat:
First, thanks for pointing out the error of chiefs versus deputy chiefs. We've corrected it.
Second, if you think we've "always had captains," well, welcome to the job rookie. We remember when Captains were Civil Service exams and the City stopped promoting them intending to let the entire rank be phased out. That was after the Booz-Allen report....ever hear of it?
Now go play in traffic snowflake.
What a dirty sniveling snake! For 8 years he could have done something but now on his way out he speaks? He is the reason the city can’t get anyone to apply for the job. He killed the job. He let his police officers go year after year after year without a raise blowing them off every time the contract expires. What a jerk
Actually to my surprise, my great surprise, Pritz came out strongly for pensioners here is a link: https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-pension-emanuel-pritzker-burke-kim-foxx-mayors-race-spin-20181211-story.html
“That’s not something I’m promoting in any way,” Pritzker said of the proposal, which, if approved, would face a certain legal challenge. “My commitment is to pay the pensions that are owed to people.”
Fix the pensions? You need to take the politicians out of it. Enforce the law that reads they cannot take a pension holiday with out being personally financially accountable (like the police with punitive damages) and leaving all investment decisions to professional financial companies. No more nephews like Vanecko Chicago's version of Madoff making high risk investments.
Then you have to start holding these trustees accountable. The city appointees and the elected ones should answer to a federal court and prison time like Madoff and Chicago's own Jeff Skilling, the other news media connected thief.
Did anyone hear from the pension board on what happened with the DV realtly theft? DV made millions and the pension funds lost millions.
Did the funds sue to recover or press the US Attorney ? Anybody push for it?.FOP?, City hall?, the Governor?, Madigan?

ISP has no cost health insurance for employees and retirees, but family members are not free and the employee / retiree has to pay for their coverage. Also, it is not lifetime health insurance. At 65 you go on Medicare like everyone else.
Sounds to me like you should get rid of FOP and get the teachers union to reresent you.
The FOP Officers are completely incompetent. They have become petty and self serving. Look at 2n VP all for himself. Placing charges on fellow FOP member. What about RA and over two thousand grievances that were never answered and put in a box. He was then hired as a Field Representative. What the hell is going on? NO INTEGRITY!
How is it that they have money for TIF funds and pet projects like DePaul basketball and Daley park but not for pensions? Dirty little Richie and" Rham the rat" should be cellmates in their retirement.
Man just image if we could strike like the teachers and streets and sanatation workers. This city would literally burn in less than 24 hours. We have been out of contract for 1 1/2 years already, COPA’s fucking bullshit, pension not being funded because assholes were the sticky bandats, and to top it all off the stupid concent decreee that will make policing disappear. Got to love Chicago.
Rahm's big accomplishment as mayor was trying to get some stupid fucking museum on the lakefront for the guy who wrote Star Wars. Now he mentions a casino and pot tax? fucking loser.
Possibly the most "fetal" mayor we've ever had.
Martin will write a book about the JVD trial.
Unless the guy working with Dean beats him to it.
We have contract issues and pension issues that are not being effectively addressed. Our enemies walk over the current FOP like the Alabama Crimson Tide steamrolls The Citadel.
The FOP is out of its depth.
Graham and his team will have a hard time being reelected with the contract still in play two years from now.
Second, if you think we've "always had captains," well, welcome to the job rookie. We remember when Captains were Civil Service exams and the City stopped promoting them intending to let the entire rank be phased out. That was after the Booz-Allen report....ever hear of it?
And all this time I thought the Booz-Allen Report was about a copper named Alan whose flask dropped from his inside pocket.
Why is this just a question of what is FOP going to do? We have three other unions, PBPA Sergeants, Lieutenants and Captains, as well as Local 7 CFD. FOP is the largest, but they should not have to forge ahead alone in the battle. We pay dues to the PBPA, and our brothers and sisters on the Fire side pay theirs as well. This is a fight that requires a United front , one that is battled from all positions and funded in equitable percentages. They need to be aggressive; overly aggressive, and win this. There is no greater fight than the pensions and the medical. Rahm is a lame duck looking to make his mark on the way out. The other politicians, especially the one coming in are weak right now, so we need to strike and strike hard. Media blitz, billboards throughout the City and Suburbs, up and down the Expressway, internet ads etc. Call out the politicians and stake our righteous claim. We have to take, or at least justifiably fight for what is ours. Call out the BS, and dont let them play politics with our earned futures.
Any loss of our pension benefits will be off set by our Social Security. I get $49.00 a month due to Stamp Thief Dan Rostenkowski and his double dip bullcrap.
Where can you get a deal on yellow vests? Just get a bunch of people walking around city hall on the sidewalk, would be a good visual to get the little pimp on the media, world stage. Isn’t that what he wants? Mr. Little tough guy.
The Con Con is an expensive proposition.
I don’t think IL will ever be able to justify a full Con-Con so amending is the alternative.
Any Dem police supporters (downstate) will likely balk at the costly C-C because it takes millions to what could be earmarked for education, especially when JBToilets is going to give back a lion share to CPS.
Quinn and Rauner both fully supported First Responder pensions.
If there’s a loophole addendum, I think it will first affect State workers and then perhaps eventually the rest of us.
Taxing all the pensions may be the first indication that pensioners are doomed to pay for Sanctuary IL.
Correct me if I’m wrong, CPS/CTU was/has been given stipulation via Contract to never having to give up that 2% pension contribution.
Modern times calls for MeToo clause and not just Santa Clause gifts to some.
Why is it there’s no 3 year Ingrade Pension formula for all?
The tribune especially ahole bill Ruthart is daily writing pro Rahm puff pieces about his big plans to grad all the cash he can before he leaves. Rahm must be texting major to his bff Bruce Dold telling him what to right. It’s a daily Rahm stroke fest and it’s disturbing and disgusting. The tribune is a pos paper just like the scum times.
The leadership for a long time has been part of the problem! They wheeled a d sealed to give crack to the masses ( large raises) in exchange for for pension holidays, diversions and being silent on mismanagement.
Where was lodge 7 at the council meeting yesterday morning? One of the main players was seated right upfront(donahue) but couldn't wake up early enough to get on the speaking list. The same can be said for President Graham. Both were captured on video in the chamber but not at the microphone. Where was the pension board members who recently stumped for votes? Tom Beyna,Brian Wright,Ed Wodnicki,Mike Lappe were also nowhere to be found. A MASSIVE void of leadership from those trustees voted in to guard our interests. I cant wait for 2020!!!
John Catanzara 008
The kiddos at the hall have no experience in media relations, advertisement or politics.
Think about it the president of the FOP got caught living out of the city.
All they had to do was add a word like "ASSHAT RAHM" and the media would have loved it OR "LAME DUCK MAYOR".
A silly picture also garners heat.
https://me.me/i/chicago-will-always-be-a-sanctuary-city-you-are-safe-in-6798830
The only guys at fop who have ant balls at all are murray and prieb. Graham is a complete coward and will not come out of office. Graham is truly the worst guy elected.
The BC/BS building at 300 E Randolph alone was assessed at over $80,000,000 in 2017. The property taxes were over $19,000,000! Yes! That's almost a quarter of the assessed value! It's like paying $50,000 a year in property taxes on a $200,000 home. Where is all the money going?
He’s a lil dirty greedy self serving son of a bitch . Fuck him!!!
Problem is, the press is an extension of the Democratic ministry of propaganda.
He can hold press conferences, nobody shows up.
I did call a news station to correct it.
If everyone flooded the stations with corrections
There has not been in honesty since John Dinesen was ousted from the FOP.
The release said noting. But he is paid to say nothing wouldn't want to ruin that soft landing place he has been promised. Go along to get along has been the OP motto for many many years. Your dies are being stolen by a bunch of do nothing slugs. Almost like a merit promotion to be elected to run the FOP. Classic example of given not earned.
Rahm is, and always has been, lower and slimier than a snake.
Now that he’s a short timer he’s trying to stir the pot with the hopes that he can fuck us out of some of our pension benefits.
Fuck you Rahm. Remember karma is a motherfucker.
Hopefully this lasts, I saw on WGN news that JB said he did not see the pension amendment passing if a Constitutional Convention occurs.
Hate to say it, but there is no way to tax ourselves out of this mess. What are we going to do? Tax more businesses out of state, tax more people out of their homes? The feds moved to defined contribution retirement 30 years ago, and it should prove as an outline for states and municipalities.
In the mean time, I recommend everyone start a Roth IRA and invest as much as they can into it.
You dont send out a press release. You have a joint press conference with the President of Local 2. If that was a press release it was poorly written. Time to hire someone that does this for a living and get the message out. Im not bashing Prieb. I am just stating the obvious that if you want a message to be carried by the news media you have to use a professional PR person to do it.
How could Martin write a book about jvd. He rarely came to court. Rather he sat back at the Lodge checking to see if his book sales reached $200 in a month. Then went and talked shit with the soon to be retired 1st VP and the sharp shooter about how a trial is supposed to go.
---------------
Martin will write a book about the JVD trial.
Unless the guy working with Dean beats him to it.

And still Shortshanks isn’t behind bars.
What happened with JVD was a result of him picking DQH as his attorney . Was it his choice or was it because he was coerced into selecting DQH by Dean , GB and KM ? How can u have an attorney who has never tried a murder trial ? It was very obvious that he was way over his head . Let’s look at his many mistakes !
1. He allowed The Judge to remain on the case .
2. He selected two attorneys “ one the judges buddy and the second a real estate attorney as his assistants .
3. He violated the gag order .
4. Did not ask for a home monitor for Jason .
5. Did not attack the witnesses against Jason.
6. Coached his kids baseball team prior to the trial and left town .
7. Turned down a plea bargain .
8. Allowed his ego to take over .
9. Didn’t use all his strikes when selecting a jury .
10. Paid $ 30k to a his witness whose notes were used against his client .
11. Improperly prepped his client for testifying .
DQH should never have been on this case !
Hey FOP aholes, you ever hear of billboards? They are everywhere in the city. Outside Ohare would be a good start. It will take money though away from your annual golf and the beer pizza meetings. You assholes better get your shit going on a full court press before its too late.

why a Roth? I'd rather have my deferred tax $ working for me.
Why don’t the FOP, or the self proclaimed experts on this blog do an op/ed piece in all the local newspapers? You can straighten out the media and show what a mean, vengeful, lying little prick our not soon enough exmayor is. If you call for a news conference, no one shows. A lot of national news services are always looking for something to use and are forever borrowing items from all over. Maybe just write the Presidents name, that could get more attention?
The slogan " Be the change " is an insult to every Chicago policeman out there today !!!!
