It's hard to believe they actually promote people out of 011, seeing as how they never have any impact on crime trends or numbers. 011 is going to lead the city in homicides for the fifth year in a row, so actual competence doesn't seem to slow down the chosen ones.

I’ve been saying this for ages. How do the commanders of 011 & 015 keep getting promoted to Deputy Chief and Chief when they have absolutely no impact on crime. Barb West blows up 015 and they move her to 011. She blows that place up and they make her Chief of Pillows? The guy after her; very nice man but clueless. Moved up to Deputy Chief. KJ? "011 is going to lead the city in homicides for the fifth year in a row..." - SCC

An understatement. For the past FIFTY (50) years, 011 has led the city in murders most of the time. In the earlier years before they razed the nation's largest public housing project Robert Taylor, 002 occasionally led the city in murders.

Don't paint the 011 troops of yesteryear with a snarky broad brush. Some of the officers who worked the mean streets in that shithole were among our very finest. Fillmore is the district in which the term "da REAL PO-leese" began.

The Johnson twins say it all about COD’s leadership. These two are the “best & brightest “ under the merit system. Never passed a promotional exam, yet leading the cuty’s Two worst districts. Under their stellar leadership those districts are still two of the worst and the “best and brightest “ twin commanders are under federal investigation- with one twin definitely going to prison.

Nothing will ever change because CPD continues to promote the completely incompetent.

It does not matter who is the cmdr. of 011. There are socioeconomic conditions there that have been persistent for many decades that will beat back the best intentions of an army of young, aggressive officers eager to do good. Immense poverty. Insufficient schools. Lack of vocational training. Numerous open air drug markets.Large numbers of convicts released there after serving their sentences. It all adds up.

U ever look up 011’s arrest queue? They are consistently locking up by far the most people in the city. The problem is they just keep getting released and doing the same thing over and over. I don’t blame the cops there at all, or the supervisors. It’s an absolute no win situation. It will never get better no matter who u put in charge until the people that live there want it to.

Hey SCC -

Our numbers jive with these. We have 011 easily doubling any other district's total people shot count. While most other districts are showing lower numbers year over year, 011 will close the year right around where they did last year.

017 on the other hand doubled their 2017 tally. We have them down for 10 homicides and 43 shot and wounded vs last year's 4 & 23.

SCC, I’ve spent time working on the west side, and know it’s a shithole.
Anyone who hasn’t can assume it’s a shithole just by taking a wild guess.

I’ve genuinely always thought that the guy who posts those stats that no one cares about does it for 2 reasons.
1) So other cops will respect him as a “Fillmore Ranger” whenever they see him wear a Fillmore hooded sweatshirt or t-shirt out in public.
2) He memorizes those numbers so he can impress upon non-police at family parties, the bar, etc what a badass he is for working in 011. Even though if the people he was trying to impress knew that “Mr. Stat Nerd” likely writes 2 parkers and 5 case reports a night, and maybe hits hits the hole for 2 hours, they likely wouldn’t be as impressed.

No one cares that you work in 011 dude, we get it.
Your posts are annoying, and if we were curious we know how/where to find that information.
I don’t give a flying fart how many Index Crimes happen in 011, or in any district for that matter.

I hate to break it to some of you, but IT'S 011!

NO ONE GIVES A FUCK!

What goes on in that "community" is because of that community. THEY want the homicides, the shootings, the drugs, the rampant crime. The socio-economic conditions in that area have been shit, are shit and always will be shit because THEY DONT GIVE A FUCK. No matter how many millions of our tax dollars you pump into that area, no matter how many arrests you make in that area, no matter how many changes to the schools, or community programs you make... It wont change a damned thing. 002, 003, 004, 005 006, 007... is the same thing.

At some point, you have to ask yourself "Why?"
Why are you willing to risk ANYTHING for that place? Risk your money, your job, your sanity, your pension, your health, and your life for neighborhoods where no one that lives in them care?

We've saturated those areas for DECADES, and what's changed? With the amount of money and resources that has been dumped into Englwood, that place should look like Sauganash or Beverly.

Put the fence around the place and hang the "THUNDERDOME" sign on it and call it a day.

011 will never change. Been a shit hole for decades and decades and decades. Can’t really blame the police in these districts for it being a shithole just like you can’t blame the police for Chicago as a whole being a shit hole. In the end, like a few wise commenters stated before me, it’s not a police issue. The police cannot fix 011 or Chicago. Sure, the numbers go up and down, but it’s a community issue. Whole generations have never worked a single day, Education sucks(which is their own fault), there’s no values, no respect for anything or anyone, and it’s all just about relying on the govt for that next free check just big enough to go buy a little food and their rocks/blows. It’s almost exclusively their fault, and they have to fix it. And they never will. We are just there to referee.

Insufficient schools? How many more millions do you suppose we should throw down the rat hole? The only thing government should do is afford students an opportunity to be educated. If the student does not do their part and try to absorb the information, what do you expect the schools to do?
Lack of vocational training? I'm sure the trades would trip all over themselves to train QUALIFIED minorities. Sort of goes back to that education thingy they didn't absorb.
I blame the democrats for the socioeconomic conditions. LBJ and his Great Society plan, which was intended to eliminate poverty, destroyed the black family. LBJ knew he was making the inner city blacks dependent on government. Because of the freebies, he said blacks would be voting democratic for 100 years! I think it is time to end that experiment.

Fuck the brass, if they don't like my performance or anybody else for that manner. The tour is as follows 24/7 and 365 days a year, answer you're jobs, back you're fellow coppers, go to lunch, do some more jobs and go home. Make the least possible arrests as necessary(lockup will love you) for what, the lawyers and judges are basically not jailing anybody anymore. I used to be a worker, not anymore because I woke up one day and smelled the coffee. God Bless........

Having worked Fillmo' from 1966 through early 1970, I couldn't agree with you more. The camaraderie, swift back-up and adrenaline-loaded fun was great. As my favorite commander, George Sims use to say: "We're not white. We're not black We're ALL BLUE.". You'd learn more about policing and keeping safe in a few years in Fillmo' than some police in slow districts would learn during their entire career.

10:43 AM:
Fuck you, you anonymous, ungrateful trolling piece of shit. Odds are you couldn't make a patch on a real policeman's ass. BTW, it wasn't until after I retired that I ever heard the term "Fillmore Ranger". SHOW RESPECT!

I can't speak for today's 11th Dist. and police in general. However, I can say with the current anti-police climate, the late Commander George Sims and those no longer working out of the legendary 4001 W. Fillmore St. station offer our condolences for active CPD police, particularly those that work in shitholes like 011. Also, in my experience, I've met a lot of good citizens that lived in 011 and backed what they called "da REAL PO-leese", even physically assisting in a 10-1 situation.

It was "Ryan's RAIDERS" (NOT "Rangers"). Every tour, they were sent to the city's current hot crime spots.

As to the 8th District being ranked first in Property crimes and Total Index crimes, one must consider that in the last decennial U.S. census, 008 had a population of about a quarter million people. That would qualify 008 as the second largest city in Illinois.
If citizens residing in 008 needed an indisputable compelling argument to have 008 split in half, they've got it, hands down. It's ironic that Michael Madigan resides in 008 and the current district isn't divided into two (or even three) districts. 008 could be a microcosm of the entire City of Chicago with it's east end being a hellhole bordering on Englewood.

It's totally predictable as to why a recent Bloomberg Report on the nation's most populous cities, Chicago leads in outward migration.
