If you're an FTO I would be pretty pissed. Now that POS supernintendo of ours has promised that he would give FTOs a couple of merit picks in every class. Sounds good on its face but just like every thing else on the department they've used it to screw deserving P.O.'s. A.P. made FTO in either the last class or the second to last class of FTOs. When I first saw the FTO list I said to several people "why is she becoming an FTO?, she has a lot of time on the job. Maybe she really wants to help the new guys, but I bet it's so they can use one of the FTO merit picks to make her a SGT." I really hate being right. I don't know about the other FTO merit pick but I'd be curious to know how long he was an FTO. In any case this is a slap in the face to you FTOs who do a great job and have been doing it a long time. The leadership in this department disgusts me.

Had to go down to headquarters today and wow is that lot a joke. You have people parking like assholes. Blocking each other in, blocking marked squad cars in, getting into arguments about why saw which spot first. It’s an inspectors wet dream if they ever drove around there, officers getting out of their cars in uniform but with out of state plates, no front plates/city stickers it’s anarchy in that place.

What have we learned? A year more makes the big difference. I’ve found time doesn’t help on the job. If you haven’t learned the job in 18 months and are a dog , at 5 years you will be. Dog and at 10 years you will be one. No one suddenly at 2 1/2 or 3 years becomes a policeman. You either have the desire from day one, learn and pick it up or you don’t

The merit system was supposed to all for a good street copper to get promoted even if he/she were not good test takers. Obviously, this is not the case. I strongly disagree with allowing civilian directors to have a voice in that process at all!!
We all know that they put these folks in based on a favor for a political pal or another exempt that does not have the wack to get a spot. I am so happy that 80 of us retired today. It has been a great experience and I have met and worked with a lot of good hard working people in my tenure. Dont let the b.s. sour you guys/gals. Make this job work for you. I was at the GOP Mayoral Forum last night. Law enforcement was a big topic. I went in leaning toward Vallas. Now I'm going to vote for Fioretti. He's the guy to clean up the mess at the top of CPD. After the forum I asked Fioretti who would be a good Superintendent. He said Bill Kushner. That would be an outstanding choice.
