Melissa Staples may be a Burke CPDmerit bump, but she is a brilliant chess player. Don't count on her going down for any wrongdoing. If anything, Staples will be the next super. She has been groomed for the top spot for some time now. Machine or no machine she has checkmate over this department and she has managed to steer clear of anything that would put her in the hot seat. I am sure she goes home after work, sits back, vapes all while having a good laugh at all the connected NOBLE goofs that thought they had a chance at being top-dog. NOBLE is protected until Rahm leaves office; then you will see a mass exodus of NOBLE CPD bosses and perhaps a few Indictments. These agents would come in as transfers from other departments, cook county or local police or even having what looked like an applicant with no police background. Think about those police officers that manage to work in several units throughout their entire career, they have extensive backgrounds but always manage to stay a blue shirt. We call these people snails. If you are smart enough, you can spot them, but very few officers on this job could not find their way out of a box. Be very careful of who you trust in this department because you never know who is watching or what is being recorded in a covert capacity. Feds play by their own set of rules, and they can record your conversations and lie to you with impunity. For you thin blue line guys and gals; keep in mind--an undercover agent is a law enforcement officer who will use an assumed name or fake identity to infiltrate an organization to gather information or evidence. In federal infiltration cases, an agent will typically pose as a sympathizer to a particular organization, gain the trust of its key members and then use this access to gather confidential information to pass on to the investigative agency. A secondary objective of these agents may also be to lay the groundwork for a separate Investigation. Under-cover agents typically concoct a cover story as detailed as the assignment requires as well as a basic biography and plausible story covering past and present activities. Do you know who are you working with?

Have to wonder how strong the case is. Times had an interesting article to where it was said in court filings in the case that Preckwinkle received that donation of $10,000 and kept $5,600 because the $10,000 was over the allowed limit
According to the article yesterday Preckwinkle showed documentation that the $10,000 was donated via a VISA card and the campaign never accepted it and returned the money within a few days. If that’s true what else is messed up in the court filing

I heard the FOP Board of Directors voted themselves a 100.00 a month raise at the last Board Meeting, while the rest of us have been working without a raise for several years. Can anyone verify this since they stopped videotaping the meetings and I can’t watch it to verify.

Yes, all the above, but his 'snitch'(ing) as you put it was against the mob and dirty politicians which he helped bring down. Read his book, you don't have to buy it, it's still free at the library. You'll find in his final chapter his complete and thorough information on why and how both Eddie and his wife Anne BURKE should have been indicted/arrested for their criminal dealings which although detailed in length, were ignored.

Oh please! Being "pleasant and approachable" doesn't qualify for shit. I have worked in 30+ years for some of the biggest old jagoffs you could meet but they meant business and would have your back in a heartbeat. I never cared if they were pleasant.

Preckwinkle's official story is Ernie Brown was toed into the Sgt. Watts investigation and corruption. Preckwinkle allegedly fired him because of that.
Rumor is10 million dollars went missing from the Cook County Homeland Security Grant. about 1.6 million was paid back. Ernie was going to be the fall guy for both Watts and Homeland Security.
SCC, you're wrong on this one. She has always been a stand up person. She was not merit, and frankly her job is one not wanted by most who have a half of brain.

She's not a bad person. But certainly did not make sgt on her own. It may not have been merit, but she did have private study sessions. She's not the police. And i certainly would not want her on the street with me.

She’s so nice, pleasant and approachable that the Homicide clearance rate is pitiful. Low rate has made national news. She’s too afraid to shuffle the deck.
Hysterical. That Sgt. worked the front office as a po. Made Sgt and landed in a district on midnights which she couldn’t handle for a handful of months. And came back to 018 to run the district as a business liaison Sgt. a job completely over her head. Her husband was in the same Sgt class, rumored to be merit. Got to love the connections. Get paid to be the police but make the same salary to work behind a desk the majority of a career.
