Help on the Way
Let's hope this doesn't fall by the wayside and officers avail themselves of the help being offered:
- Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson announced Tuesday that CPD would be adding more counselors for officers after a difficult year that saw four officers killed in the line of duty and four officers who died by suicide.
[...] Officers seem to be following Johnson's lead in recent weeks with more reaching out for help from EAP counselors and the six CPD chaplains. CPD plans to add six more EAP counselors and other forms of support in light of increased demand.

Does this mean no rdos cancelled in 2019? Because they care, right?
This a good start. Question? Howcome the mayor, Aldermen or any other politician hasn’t made this happen a long time ago? Have they even said a damm thing? Has the DOJ brought this up in their BS report scrutinizing every inch of the department? Probably not. Why? Because the truth is they could care less about police officers. It’s all about them and their agenda. And protecting cops isn’t in it. If they cared we wouldn’t go years without a contract and raises.
I don't know. Call me misguided. I don't think it matters how many they add. You could add 100... I think this is a merely a symptom for something much greater. On this job you never have been more closer to going to prison for doing what you thought was Right at the time. The shit head, the politician, your average left wing nut hates the police even when their the victim many times. Someone going thru a divorce or other traumatic situation isn't in most cases going to reach out to some stranger who has no clue what we go through... Hopefully they will reach out to that partner that or other close friend.
Being a police Officer,Firefighter or Health Care Worker have the same thing in common you are going to see people Die and you will Save live's,Think of the Live's you saved and the people that you made a difference in their live's, You are a 911 Responder and that is the Cycle of Life. Don't blame your self think of the next Life you will Save.
If you think Johnson actually gives a shit of you, then you really are over the edge.
Reactive rather than proactive. Supervision there needs to be replaced.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, (PTSD) was not recognized by the Medical community until the 1980's, just as the damage of Agent Orange, was not recognized until long after the Vietnam War had ended. It is Unrealistic to believe or expect that working police can go 20 years without suffering some form of emotional distress, from seeing what they see, smell and touch. I am not talking about the inside political police hacks who spend their careers hiding at IAD. Granted, there are people, such as funeral directors, who take death and carnage lightly. But by the time Morticians get the case; the person has stopped bleeding and screaming; begging to live. The victim's screams stay in your head, even when you go home. The average human being is just not ready to absorb what cops and paramedics in big cities like Chicago experience on a daily basis. In years to come, I sincerely believe, that PTSD will be recognized as a malady effecting First Responders, it may become our Agent Orange. Unfortunately, that will be too late for those who take their lives or ruin their lives over "Da Job". Stay Strong! Baby "G"
Hey, just allow cops to smoke weed in role call.
Start the shift all mellow.
All is fine and well then.
Guys stay strong. Look South from Beverly whence your salvation shall arrive once the election has been decided. From that direction succor and divine redemption for the CPD shall arrive. You will have a tested no nonsense no drinking leader from the past who is unblemished by scandal and who knows the divine path to a resurgence of the CPD. Your new leader in waiting has the wisdom of Solomon, the swagger of Michael Jordan, and the unforgiving ruthlessness of J.Edgar Hoover. When he was a young M1 Johnny Depp look alike he was a member of C5.
He is being subjected to a deep vetting by a company led by a former heavy hitter on this job who was certainly the real police. One of the leading deep pocket candidates is paying the five figure cost of this vetting.
Me, I’m a retired revolver po/current background investigator who rolled on 4662 when GCN the successor to the GIU was at its zenith and the Real Police protected this city with no fear. I never once had a CR number and I have correctly called every presidential election since the election of Ronald Reagan.
I am surprised that Rahm waited this long. You know how he revered and adored his master Obama's DOJ report, even with the misspellings and math errors.
If you speak to anybody associated with/employed by the Dept., you’re taking a huge risk.
Rahmshanks Inc. employees , period. Share nothing with these people.
Talk to your personal Physician.
Ask for help not because you're weak but because you want to remain strong.
Yeah, like all political hacks, he's showing real concern after pressure's put on him.
Just like the VA situation. Everyone says how bad it is, but no one's done anything to alleviate the situation.
Ed,go away.
Help on the way ?
How about getting these white shirts Cmdr’s/Capt’s/Lt’s/Sgts to lay off the Officers and stop ruling like dictators and
actually encourage and motivate the troops.? That’s a start to the well being of an Officer !!
The external influences, traumatic incidents etc etc can be addressed by the professionals.
Advice; Stop coming at Officers with threats of dumping you off a car, a team or whatever
and start making a difference in someone’s career! It’s time to stop the madness of placing
incompetent people in charge of the good working police!! Let’s start with that South Side District
Help da South-Side
I am so glad that this is happening and I believe that it is the response to the pressure put on the department by the DOJ report and not to anything that the city or Johnson initiated. Hopefully this action will save officer's lives and mental health in the long run. I was involved in two deaths in my career and they still are on my mind, decades later. I had PTSD for years after my retirement and did not really know what the problem was. Back then after you had such an incident the watch commander assigned you to a HS football game or some similar detail for a few days and then back to work. In one case, after an incident the gang members were calling out my name on the streets so they offered me a transfer to another district. I am glad things are changing but I know it is not because the city or the department really cares about you.
[...] Officers seem to be following Johnson's lead in recent weeks with more reaching out for help from EAP counselors and the six CPD chaplains...............
Um, where do these stats come from?
I thought the process was confidential?
Maybe the Department should start recruiting, soon to retire PO'S, and give them 2 yrs of of actual schooling and training and let people with their unique perspective assist those in need of guidance. Right now the "Be The Change" motto is villifying caring and seasoned peoples body of work over 25 years with needless slogans, when in fact those very officers have keen insights that might prevent future tragedies.
That solved all our problems. I feel better already.
This Dept doesn't give a fuck about you or your well being. If you believe that, you are in lalla land. Can't wait to retire from this SHIT HOLE. Yes I said SHIT HOLE! !!!
City really cares. Where the fuck is our contract???? You really care about us. The fuck you do !!!!!
What about our police committee, Alderman Reybozas is a great guy who is fighting big time for his aldermanic spot against Little Louie FALN Gutteriez daughter tries his best to help us but Ald. TONY BEALE is a TOTAL POS. We need the Sergeants to be first hands on with issues but they are too too busy with calling everyone DUDE and wanting to be a good guy and loved by the guys. GROW SOME BALLS.
Would the dept ever look into medical marijuana, in regards to pain and stress relief. Just a thought ... thx for what y’all do

All Johnson cares about is his Fraternity brothers. Name one merit Command staff member (which is almost every member) who puts the people that work for them first?? Save your time there isn't any. I think the first thing they teach in merit school is take care of #1.

Wishful thinking and you are right, happy happy. Looking at the big picture it would make the Dem's not happy. City workers like the CPD, CFD, Street and Sans all have to live in this fucked up City. The reasoning is simple, MONEY; Property Tax, Bag Tax, etc....... I totally understand, my son was on the job a couple of years ago, finished law school and a friend of the family has a small firm where he now works. Six months before quitting he sold his home and purchased something in Tinely Park. He was on the job for six years and two week before putting in this papers his Sgt. told him there was a CR# for residency.
The Sgt. heard it from an IAD buddy. I told him not to panic, by the time the IAD starts such an investigation it takes months to complete. He took my advise and put in his papers as planned and never looked back. He misses his friends on the CPD, however, his family is very pleased with the schools, and the new neighborhood. If someone could legally figure out how to get around Home Rule, then you would be able to move anywhere you would like. The other alternative, a mutual type divorce and you have a city address. The problem, you can't trust anyone with this information, so you have to keep your mouth shut. On the divorce, show you have unlimited Visitation Rights documented. The IAD is notorious for sitting on someone's alternate residence and city address. If you decide to take this path, make it impossible for them to figure out your M.O. Think like an international spy and stay ten steps ahead of these merit assholes.

Agreed. The liberal - the white liberal (yes, I am white) are the problem. They have no fucking idea what is needed to solve ghetto problems - but they jump all over providing a "solution." They are trying to smooth out the rough edges of policing - which CANNOT be done. Whenever humans are involved there are factors that just cannot be smoothed out. It's a dirty fucking job. They want us all to be ticket writers and they thing DNA and a plethora of detectives will solve crime through science. Ya, right.
But that's fine, I'll fit the mold of political correctness if that is what the ground rules are. I am not saying anything new - we've all stop taking risks (most of us) to get this job done. It is just not fucking worth it. The police force needs force and it need to COMMAND respect, not beg for it. Fuck every one of you white liberals to your very core. And fuck you Harvey Grossman. T
This supt. is the worst one in my 28 years on this job. What a phony.
I wonder how many more counselors they could hire if people would quit stealing overtime. Like how does an admin sgt make over 250k in one year between cu and money. Captain dave let us know tour secret. Or will commander kj spill the beans in his plea deal.
Did city hall ever think that financial woes can add to the stress of being a police officer? But every single time the city lets the contract expire and then blows us off for years before finally getting a tiny raise that doesn’t even keep up with the cost of living. All the while we continue to come to work every day and do our jobs without hesitation. I doubt they give a shit
OT- How can a Sergeant assigned to the academy make $217,000(Snelling). Wtf??? Admin Sergeants making over $200,000( 007- Sepulveda) ???
https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/chicago-police-department-overtime-spending-increase/
You want to take the first step to making sure our Officers are healthy physically and mentally. Get our Command staff to support your Officers. Don't be a bunch of lip service. Have your watch Commanders lie straight to your face and do the complete opposite when you are not their.
Starting in the Academy, quit telling our recruits from the get go that this is how you are going to get in trouble, this is how you are going to get sued. This is the worse moral I have ever seen on the job. You got new officers refusing to do their task because they feel "uncomfortable" with it. The list goes on and on.
The pool of people taking thr police test is smaller and smaller because it’s so expensive to live in the city . If the union is reading these posts something needs to be done otherwise no one’s going to be able to afford to live here anymore
The EAP has one building near the United Center. It's gonna be hard to fit 6 more counselors in that building. There isn't enough space.

Unfortunately, I tend to agree with you. In the academy over 30 years, ago a classmate of mine said that this was the only job he's had where from day 1 there's people looking to fire you.
Nowadays it's so much worse. I don't have solutions. I think promoting better quality and qualified people to supervisors wouldn't hurt but we all know how that goes.
Tell the asswipe inspector who was looking for infractions in the 005th district parking lot yesterday to give us a break for awhile, I think we have been through enough over the last couple of months, we don’t need some bosshole knit picking over petty shit right now..... Ya know...
Too little and way too many years too late.
Confirmation as to how little of a fuck
the collective body actually gives about
The Policeman's well being.
Just get out there and be the "Public Servant"
they're so adamant about you being and deal
with the very worst shit that life and society
can throw your way...
Do it with a cheerful and smiling demeanor or
else they'll accuse you of being manly, assertive,
aggressive, combative, etc...
Remember... "Warrior Cop," that hard-eyed, no nonsense,
smart, tough and manly, proudly blue collar relic, has been
defamed, denounced, condemned and left to hang for sport in this
touchy-feely, everybody must squat to pee, let's all go for
celebratory ice cream (except you Cops) era of liberal SJW
squishyness and abjectly craven surrender/pandering to the
politically and culturally weaponized perpetually aggrieved.
You know... Modern culture has a severe allergy to things
in the realm of "Manliness" like The Police and Policing.
"Why can't they ever be like we want them to be?"
Instead of the appreciative nod of yore for doing a
job that the overwhelming majority of people just are
not equipped to do.
Let alone survive.
The phones at district desks ring and some feverish,
unsatisfiable rattle-mind wants to prattle about how
they felt "The Officers were 'uppity'" and failed to
genuflect before a supposed societal better.
You know... You Cops think WAY too much and WAY too highly
of yourselves so you need to be brought down a goodly many pegs.
...Is what the joyful haters say.
Yeah... Policemen get a LOT of flak for failing to know
their place in the new and re-ordered societal hierarchy.
So as things are royally unraveling in Chicago, there's
a big to do about "getting Policemen help" as the major
actor(s) in the current state of affairs have decided to
move on to bigger and better things.
Gotta get that last pro-Police photo-op in we reckon.
The damage has already been deliberately done
and it looks like the majority of those seeking
anointment to the seat of power have absolutely
zero interest in The Policeman's well being.
Isn't the Policeman's well being part of being
accountable for whichever ass is in the seat
of power?
"That's DIFFERENT!"
Oh... Ok...
Thanks.
A suggestion to my former department.
Every single sworn MUST go see a counselor. NO EXCEPTIONS. NONE.
Once inside, you can read a book, play on your phone, or converse.
This way, there's no stigma. EVERYONE goes. And no one knows if you chatted or didn't.
Then, if you end up talking, and it helps you, you make arrangements to continue with counseling at another site.
Maybe I missed all Fop statements on this recently. Lead Kevin. Protect those you represent. Don’t let this be silenced. Silence kills
This job certainly IS a sacrifice. You will sacrifice your relationships with your family, you will sacrifice seeing your kids grow up (my son turns XX this month and I get sick thinking about what I missed), you will sacrifice your days off, you will work on holidays. Are you RDO for (insert holiday here)? Did you already make plans with your family? Too bad, your family will enjoy the holiday without you cause you will be at work.
Witness or experience some fucked up shit at work? Well, if you were military and experienced the same you would get some sympathy. If you’re a cop, the public calls you a pussy and tells you that’s what you signed up for
Every day you work, you are thrown into chaos and confrontation. The confrontation comes from all sides: the public, asshole co-workers, asshole bosses, the media, etc. The bosses then pressure you and threaten you to bring in activity amongst this chaos and confrontation. If you do not bring in activity, you are punished by refused time off, breaking up of partners, and removal from your car.
In other words, you are never allowed relief from the chaos and confrontation. The pressure by the bosses intensifies in the winter, when they know there are not too many citizens out an about.
It is my opinion that if the department REALLY gave a shit about it’s officers, they would back the fuck off officers and allow them time and space to decompress-even while at work. Give officers occasional early ducks and more time due. The “shit” on this job is going to happen all on its own, no need to pressure officers to find it.
I know this will never happen. It is up to you, fellow officers, to take it upon yourselves and resist the pressures by those around you. I know it’s hard to tell a boss “no”, but you do have discretion.
Stay strong. It doesn’t get any easier
DOnt you all know that you don’t have to seek out EAP for help? There are plenty of therapists through our insurance. I’ve been going to one for years. I get medicine and therapy at a nominal cost. EAP is not the only choice in town.
Too little too late
Too little too late.
The well of public good will toward anything
good or positive for cops has been poisoned.
The Police are seen as being the problem
so they're going to be reformed into a
corner in the name of accountability
and transparency.
Chicago.
Where no good deed by Policemen ever goes unpunished.
Heh...
That's the reason why every officer's everything
dating back to 1967 was demanded, sued for and
surrendered.
Ponder that awhile...
Was that demanded of doctors?
No.
Nurses?
No.
Lawyers?
No.
Teachers?
No.
Politicians?
No.
Media editorial board members?
Absolutely not!
Protect yourselves.
You have no real help or relief coming.
This is what the public has howled and protested for.
Let the public have it.
Let them come to realize that what they howled
for is their reward.
Several years ago a person jump to their death from the Golden Gate Bridge. Inside the person's coat was a suicide note. The note read that, "If someone said hello to me before I had the chance to jump, I would not jump." Obviously no one said a word to this person and the person jumped.
How many us greet each other in hallway, locker room, or in roll call? How many us know every person in both early and late roll calls? New PPOs are being added each day. How many us have said, "we all had our first day kid, the jobs not that tough, you will figure it out?" A kind word from a WOL to every P.O. goes along way.
Has anyone thought of seeking legal remediation for the effects of PTSD? The affects of years of violence, trauma, death, high levels of fear and stress take a cumulative affect on the body and mind. A class action lawsuit should address this! This is not just a CPD issue, but a national law enforcement issue that is being ignored!
It's time the National Fraternal Order of Police and the PBPA address this in the courts.
This needs national attention, can someone post this as a topic on The Rant and any other boards, blogs or forums to get it out there?
It's a start. We deserve and we need a raise and an updated contract!!!

Denied time off, days off cancelled last minute , no contract, PDTs that don’t work, stuck in shit districts that you can not escape from, morale in the toilet, etc. meanwhile the merit machine rolls on. It’s all legit, kid. Yeah fuck you. And you wonder why.........
Counselor's for what? Telling some stranger you work a shit, phony job for a bunch of patronage clowns isn't going to stop it from being a shit, phony job working for patronage clowns. If anything your just hiring more clout people to be counselors, "apply at "Burke.com".
What they need to do is change it from being a shit, phony job working for patronage clowns into something resembling Legit. Then assure the pension is funded instead of using it to support "Daley Inc." Stop the test cheating and management promotions of assholes. And allow us to do the job instead of always feeling like were going to get fucked for doing so.
Counselor what say you?

Sadly: Moving out of city won’t help. HUD messing up all suburban housing demanding affordable housing. No escaping the freebee ferals. Why work so hard and pay tons in property taxes to live next door to the freebie feral family? Write the White House and demand change. We all know our reps won’t stop it. Why should they? They have money, security and safety. They don’t have to tolerate the freebee ferals.
Prayers reaching out remains anonymous and is actually helpful. Hope they can’t take away your jobs after discussing all the experienced horrors.
Thank you so much for ensuring we can sleep and reasonably walk around, except in no go zones, including Michigan Ave and water tower.
God bless each of you and your families. Bigger prayers the corruption is cleaned out and everyone works in safe conditions knowing we all back you!

Can't have you wild-assed, out-of-control Coppers

cynicism and yes, even hatred is well founded
and a reasonable defense mechanism response to
the political and media fuckery that has destroyed
the idea and ideal of Policing here in Chicago.

Hey genius, 40 years ago this was a totally different city and police department. You’re comparing apples to oranges. People didn’t hate the police and there were tons of great neighborhoods to live in. Not so much now. You are definitely Merit qualified.

If there's a job available to you that pays more, by all means take it. You can also contact a financial advisor who can help you set up a budget. It can be done. When you finally get yourself out of debt, it's a wonderful feeling.
For some of the other complaints on here, don't trivialize mental health and blame the problem on non-functioning PDTs, working on holidays, or having your supervisor expect you to be on time and follow rules and procedures.
There used to be regular tavern therapy. Less about drinking but more about blowing off steam with your co-workers. That doesn't really happen anymore. While it doesn't have to in that same way, I think more talking amongst each other would help. And if you know the people you work with better, you might notice when something is off.
If you really, really hate coming to work each day, then please find another job. That hate will eat at you from the inside and make you a very miserable person. Get out now before that makes you sick.
Feel free to steal the Craig Tiger Act bill enacted in AZ. it’s great, just hope your state will be progressive and follow what some others are doing.
The threefold expansion in sessions — 12 were covered previously — has been lauded by people who say a dozen meetings is barely enough to get to the root of the issue. 36 sessions covered, paid by state to your Dr of choosing.
Six specific types of on-duty trauma are included, according to the legislation:
Witnessing the "death or maiming" of a person or the "immediate aftermath" of an incident.
Being directly involved in a dangerous crime against children.
Using or being subjected to deadly force in the line of duty regardless of whether anyone was injured.
Requiring rescue in the line of duty when someone's life was endangered.
Witnessing a co-worker's death.
Responding to or being directly involved in drowning or near-drowning calls involving children.

Hey,Genius,
You would prefer the Inspector to sit on or at your jobs instead? Or in the lot at checkoff?
If your car isn't in compliance, you're a goof if you park in the lot. If it's not in compliance, you're just a goof, period.
You've been through enough in the last couple of months? Well, boo hoo. Victim mentality at it's finest.
First to arrive on scene of a 6 yr old child homicide killed by the mother. Mother tried to clean it up and cover it up brains in the tub and all. The child lay dead on the kitchen floor for hours , blood from her head drying on the floor, yeah the body was blue and stiff by the time we arrived. Took momma to my car and refused to go in, then I knew something was fucked up. Investigation revealed the child was abused for years , sucks that baby killed by mommy, never knew peace !! Cfd all had difficulty with that job and all of them received mandatory counseling . Cpd never reached out to my partner or I , or our supervisor on scene, Nothing !! You want to know what needs to be done , fucking idiot bosses, how about look out for your people when you deal with traumatic jobs ! Otj for over 26 yrs and saw a lot of ugly shit , like most of us , but nothing like looking at a baby with her brains bashed out of her head. It’s that one job that I can never get out of my head and you never know which job that will be. I Consider myself a tough old jag off and have good individual coping mechanisms, not booze or drugs !! But the department needs to be proactive !!

How about you let us move outta the damn city!! I bet the suicide rate would be drastically lower! Happier families, wife, kids, etc.

Bingo! Give that man a cigar.
And BTW, property taxes are cheaper in Chicago, unless you want to live in a shithole suburb.
Drop the college requirement no shortage of applicants!
Are you kidding? The curriculum has been dumbed down in college just look at the new recruits. Can you imagine the idiots with only a high school diploma. No thanks.
Which one?
Maybe it’s time to move to Texas. At least get a laugh, easier calls (? hopefully) and no state income taxes.

Quit whining. The city has never had a contract when the old one expired. What makes you think this one is different. Airlines, teachers, mechanics, tradesmen , etc all have the same problem. You think we are the only ones dealing with this?

What world are you living in? There’s not a lot of Mayberry’s out there. Check the suicide rates in the suburbs. Divorce rate is sky high, more unhappy families in the suburbs, not to mention the drug abuse among the kids and families. Housewives, half of all those happy families on pills and booze all day

Responding to or being directly involved in drowning or near-drowning calls involving children
Sounds good. I’m so upset reading this. Do you think I could get 18 sessions? Won’t be too many doctors or lifeguards, DCFS workers if we get this

If that were the case suicides would have been up for the last 40 years or more when the police couldn’t live out of the city
Hey genius, 40 years ago this was a totally different city and police department. You’re comparing apples to oranges. People didn’t hate the police and there were tons of great neighborhoods to live in. Not so much now. You are definitely Merit qualified.
No your the genius only statistics don’t back you up. Was a great city murders were in the 800’s actually 970 in 984
Sure was a different police department. Several years 9 pos were killed, plenty of years with 7 or 8 killed. Tons of great neighborhoods like Cabrini Green on the Northside Where you couldn’t walk and two police were murdered. I believe the area has changed, a guppy area now. Angels gardens and the westside and southside loaded with Blackstone Rangers. Are those the great neighborhoods you are talking about? They loved the police that’s why they killed 7 to 9 a year on average.

What you say is true, but it has been going on in the CPD for the last 50 years. In fact in certain aspects it was worse then. Split partners up. change your car. Was normal the, but they would just dump you off the watch a few days before the next period or change your DO group every month your week ends were coming up. You guys haven’t seen anything compared to what they did years ago. Union stopped a lot of it.

Too many Officers with no street smarts never been in a fight before college type cannot get the job done.
Why did TM from 006 Tact get dumped ? Too many
gun arrest ? Too much activity ? Was this personal ?
Or was it done to improve Officer Morale? So he
gets into a police involved shooting with an armed thug
and he gets launched ? WoW! good move Lt
Morale boosting technique, ha!
1/13/2019 09:56:00 AM
I'm guessing whoever the fuck TM is thought he could get into a pissing match with the LT or a Sgt.
Take note future Tactical Warriors. You will not win that pissing match. Shut the fuck up.

These same liberal democrat/progressive SJWs and aggrieved peoples/folkses
who have a hard-on for Policemen are the same ones who are salty over BHO's
3rd term/Shrillary NOT coming to fruition so they could tie this nation in a
knot by mandating that ANY village, town, city, county receiving ANY Federal
monies will have receipt of those federal monies tied to the HUD mandate that
ALL must accept a share of urban ferals into their communities in the name of
"fairness," "diversity," and the settlement of past wrongs done by "Y/T society."
Liberal democrat/progressive SJWs
are just EVIL!
By the time you feel thirsty it’s too late, you’re already dehydrated.

So you are naming the gentrified areas of the inner city that used to be home to the projects when the problem was contained?! Hahaha. I’m talking about neighborhoods like Montclare, Belmont Cragin, Garfield ridge, clearing, etc. and other blue collar great neighborhoods that used to exist that are now straight up shitholes. I’m talking about areas where cops could raise a family, not where yuppie hipsters party by the shinny new buildings in downtown and near north etc. also, the city had over 1 million more people then not to mention medical and technological advances. Come on guy. By the way, crime is out of control in bucktown, wicker park, Logan etc... where it will cost you 700k for a fucking house and 12k in taxes a year with no good schools. Cops like me with families and kids don’t have nice family oriented neighborhoods with great schools as options in this city. I do agree that places like Cabrini were very violent and horrible but at least that shit was contained. Now it’s everywhere thanks to section 8 and assholes like alderman arena.
There are plenty of resources available for people who need help. But often those who need help the most refuse to seek it for various reasons.
Stress will win in the end most of the time. you can beat stress but you can't do it if you are working 80 hours a week to support your credit cards and your $50,000 car.
Remember...
Rahm al-Ghoul put The Police on a "diet" because he
could't wrap his pointy head around Police expenditures
taking up over %40 of the municipal budget.
When bean counter-ism amok is allowed to supersede
necessary Police expenditure and public safety.
No training.
No equipment.
No additional expenditure
on things like counseling/EAP.
Deferred/delayed hiring in the face
of deliberately reduced headcount by attrition.
And absolutely no money for raises,
retiree/widow medical etc.
But plenty of surplus funding for sanctuary city
and the perpetually aggrieved.
Stress will win in the end most of the time. you can beat stress but you can't do it if you are working 80 hours a week to support your credit cards and your $50,000 car.
$50,000 car? Where can you get one that cheap?
Police expenditures
taking up over %40 of the municipal budget.
================
City of Chicago has about a $10 billion budget and spends about $1.6 billion on its police department. That's only about 16%.

Not NOW...
But THEN?
16% of the current budget is why cpd is riding in rattle-traps
and has no updated equipment and does no training etc...
