Neon Vests
- Two people were arrested Wednesday morning, after leading police on a chase from the West Side to Oak Park, where one suspect was seen running between houses, carrying what appeared to be a rifle.
Police said a stolen vehicle wanted in connection with a report of shots fired struck two squad cars around 8 a.m. near Monroe and Pulaski, and fled west.
Officers chased the car, and it later struck a pole near Jackson and Harlem, where the suspects ran off.
The jagoffs were apprehended and the rifle recovered, though in some reports it's described as one of those pistol-carbines you see occasionally. But we saw this picture and thought it was a really great idea:
Why shouldn't all shooters be required to wear fluorescent vests so that police and bystanders can know exactly who is doing the shooting?
UPDATE: We didn't even think of this, but a reader did - due to the hour of day, perhaps the shooter was attempting to blend in with the Safe Passage workers?
- It would cut down on the alleged "racial" profiling by pointing out exactly who was doing the shooting.
- Perhaps people (and folks) attention would be drawn the the neon yellow, assisting in identifying the shooter (the white guy wearing a yellow vest went that way!)
- Of course, you might have the occasional DOT safety worker getting plugged, but it would be a small price to pay for knowing who was doing the shootings.

Dont worry. Jaba the Hut just signed a dealer licensing law that will make everyone safer. Oak Park will be like Shanri-la soon too. This shitbird has a mask on too. Hope he gets at least Supervision and let out soon to complete his mission.

He was on hie way to his crossing guard job and was carrying it to protect the children. After all it's all about the children.
Thank God no police were hurt it looks like the assholes are stepping up there game. With your inability to even have a shotgun in your squad it doesn't seem fair. Fair, what am I thinking Cops go to jail for shooting bad guys in Chicago and bad guys get probation.

The wearing of these "safety vests" is getting to be very common by the mopes. When a citizen sees someone wearing one there is hesitation as to whether the guy is up to no good or is a legit utility type worker

Off topic maybe. It seems that the social justice courts, states attorneys, politicians etc are dragging down our country in a daily basis. A video on YouTube was posted yesterday by Pat Lynch who is president of the NYPD PBA regarding the sentencing of a 16 yr old who shot and permanently disabled a detective and also shit at other officers. 16-48 months in detention even tho he already has an extensive criminal history. Lynch blows up in the judge and the system. I cant get the video to transfer to SSC but it is powerful. The FOP needs a leader like this. Perhaps SCC can work its magic and get the video posted. So will this case be referred to ATF? Were the arrested subjects convicted felons? If so they legally could not possess a firearm which means fives years at Club Fed. Was the firearm modified to fire full auto? That I think is a ten year count. Oh wait.....I just woke up and must have been dreaming.

Why cant they just go to 290 and run into Dupage county where they don't get a bond. The judges out there are real judges not pool lay judges in Cook County. We cops in Oak Park are not supposed to get involved because we are a diverse open arm community that is getting its share of westside dude.i should have tr taken a job in Forest Park where the cops have balls and do good work.

Home invaders, Gipsy's, stick-up men, burglary's all are wearing vests to blend in during the day. They believe the vest help them to be invisible and no one is paying attention to them; because they appear to be some type of worker. Even solicitors on street corners are wearing the damn vests.
Now, all this hit close to home with me. I live in 22 and ride my trike all over. My family has been after me to get one and wear it while I ride so I don't end up as a hood ornament or a biodegradable speed bump. Thank all of you for doing what you do.
You are correct. They are wearing these vwsts while they are out committing crimes. Criminals are dumb. Wearing these vests makes them more visible, not less. One their just got caught stealing with a female accomplice at a big store on the near West side.
