- Mayor Eric Garcetti has ordered Los Angeles police to scale back on vehicle stops in response to an investigation by the Los Angeles Times showing that an elite unit was pulling over a disproportionate number of African Americans.
In a written statement Wednesday, Garcetti said he is “deeply concerned” about The Times’ findings that Metropolitan Division officers stop black drivers at a rate more than five times their share of the population.
Pointing to decreases in homicides and violent crimes last year, Garcetti said that progress in fighting crime needs to come with gains in public trust. He said that reducing vehicle stops, which are perceived by some black residents as racially discriminatory, in favor of other policing techniques will help to build that trust.
“I have directed the Chief of Police to prioritize other elements of our comprehensive crime reduction strategy, beyond vehicle stops, until we learn more — so that we can accelerate the reduction in vehicle stops that has been achieved since they peaked a couple of years ago,” Garcetti said in the statement. “We have made our streets safer with fewer vehicle stops than in recent years, and we have to keep prioritizing what works to both stop crime and strengthen trust.”
This sounds like an SOS type unit - 270 cops - concentrating on high violence neighborhoods. And the mayor has ordered police to stop enforcing the laws, due to some half-assed study. We don't know if Los Angeles has their own version of HeyJackass.com, but from the basic research we did, it would seem that their violent crime rates are similar in nature to Chicago's - to wit massive over-representation by minority youth gunning down rivals.
That's what we in the police business call a "clue" as to whom should be being stopped at a higher rate. Lib-tards don't think so. But you can bet some idiot here is thinking this is a brilliant idea and will propose it to one or more of the 14 candidates for mayor in the hopes of being the new Special Ed.

If I was a black man who was a law abiding citizen living in a bad neighborhood I would welcome being stopped by the police. It would mean the police are working in an area with problems and I know that eventually they are going to stop "that" car which is loaded with shitheads carrying guns, drugs, and terrorizing the neighborhood.

Guys I am a retired federal agent who served for five years on CPD. Trust me if you are stopping 15 cars a day you will get a gun off the street perhaps once a week and maybe catch a wanted felon. But on a daily basis you will also embarrass and humiliate at least three working class citizens who pay taxes. They will develop an antipathy toward the blue that is deep and remorseless. Too many guys pull these stops and are greatly disrespectful in their approach and come off like an arrogant storm trooper and I’m talking a about PO’s of all races not just m2s. The only thing residents of many communities want are police officers who are savvy, respectful, and who do police work that is nuanced and reflective of professionalism. And please don’t call me a libtard or anything like that. I’m just a guy who has seen both sides. I have seen how a railroad coppers daughter who was lawfully arrested for shoplifting was processed in the old eight district which didn’t have a female lockup because coppers didn’t want to see her processed in the deuce out of a sense of decency. So let’s show others some decency. I have also seen how coppers get their panties in a bunch if a relative gets a mover or heaven forbid they get a ticket on their car for being parked illegally and they have a checkerboard headband hanging on the rear view mirror. My FTO wrote some coppers illegally parked at a watch party in the old 009 and had to roll 10-99 or with a PPO until he could get a transfer back to Fillmore. Guys would not back him up on calls because of that bs. And we are talking about a M2 Navy Veteran who thought Rush Limbaugh was a centrist. The good thing is he went back to Fillmore and was welcomed home and treated with respect. It also changed his views a lot regarding diversity and respect for all. Interesting that I never get pulled over unless I have broken a traffic law. Should I start yelling at the officers that I was only stopped because I was “driving while blonde?” Instead I acknowledge that I did something stupid and accept the ticket.
Maybe the reason blacks get more traffic tickets in the ghetto (and elsewhere) than drivers of other racial persuasions is because a disproportionate number of them break the law! Of course, the race mongers won’t admit that and the politicians will never say it out loud. So I’ll say it. Let’s just start converting our facilities into CPD/CFD stations. We only respond to calls for service that meet emergency guidelines. Each district will have an ambulance and each firehouse will have a handful of patrol cars. The trucks and engines stay at the firehouses since they’re designed to house them. That’s a ton of coverage citywide.

The last political campaign in Illinois should give you a clue as to what is coming to this state. I was flooded with democratic campaign literature from people running for state office. Their entire campaign posture was " anti-Trump". Nothing was said about how they will clean up Illinois or their district or reform government or reduce spending, just anti Trump. Now we have a democratic controlled legislature and the new laws are rolling in; more spending, higher taxes, ban all semi auto firearms, register bullets, protect illegal immigrants etc. Next will be the green agenda. Illinois will be the California of the Midwest. Unless Vallas wins the mayoral, the cops in Chicago will be confined. If you do any pro-active police work it will be at your own peril. In fact, any police work could endanger your job. Look at those detectives who had punitive judgments against them in old cases.

All of these “racial profiling” studies make the same false assumption: that people of different ethnicities commit crimes and traffic infractions at the same rate.
This clearly isn’t true.
DOJ statistics - even under Holder and Lynch - show that black people commit 45+% of the murders, despite making up only 13% of the population. Why, then, would we expect them to commit a “proportional” number of lesser offenses? It doesn’t make any sense at all.
Except, if you’re a progressive, then reality takes a back seat to dogma. Since their presumption is that the increased crime rate among “the community” is due to “over-policing”, “institutional racism” and “profiling”, they conveniently ignore any evidence that would contradict that flawed assumption.

Supervisors at roll calls won't even have to give impassioned speeches anymore about how someone did a great job at a crime scene or how everyone did a great job backing each other up. This past September the wife and I took my 95 y/o mother-in-law to Calvary Cemetery to visit her ancestors then a swing by her child home three blocks over from Wabash Blvd. After that we headed to Philippe's for a French Dip.
Oh my God, I'm not sure how the homeless situation is in Chi-Town but Downtown LA looks like a giant refuge camp. There are hundreds and hundreds of tents pitched all over the area. One can't even walk on many the sidewalks downtown because tents are taking up the walkway.
We were there on a still day and the air around Olvera St. and Chinatown smelled like piss and poop forcing us to keep the car windows rolled up (which isn't a bad idea in that neighborhood anyway). It's been around 10-12 years since we'd been to DT LA but I can tell you that we'll never go back. It has to be crawling with disease.
This insane sanctuary city stuff and handcuffing the coppers has turned lots of LA into a third world shithole. So sad to see.

The last political campaign in Illinois should give you a clue as to what is coming to this state. I was flooded with democratic campaign literature from people running for state office. Their entire campaign posture was " anti-Trump". Nothing was said about how they will clean up Illinois or their district or reform government or reduce spending, just anti Trump. Now we have a democratic controlled legislature and the new laws are rolling in; more spending, higher taxes, ban all semi auto firearms, register bullets, protect illegal immigrants etc. Next will be the green agenda. Illinois will be the California of the Midwest. Unless Vallas wins the mayoral, the cops in Chicago will be confined. If you do any pro-active police work it will be at your own peril. In fact, any police work could endanger your job. Look at those detectives who had punitive judgments against them in old cases.

I miss being in SOS, some of the best times in my career. There will never be a unit like that in modern day policing but I’m glad I was able to be a part of such a great unit. I know there were some issues that stained the department but nobody took over a neighborhood like we did when shit was getting out of control. Everyone in the neighborhood knew when we were there and they didn’t respect the police they were fucking terrified! Good times!

Nice that they are charging them all as adults. Something you'd not see IL do. Three girls and two boys. The females are just as feral as the male thugs these days. And where were their parents? Interesting that I never get pulled over unless I have broken a traffic law. Should I start yelling at the officers that I was only stopped because I was “driving while blonde?” Instead I acknowledge that I did something stupid and accept the ticket.
Maybe the reason blacks get more traffic tickets in the ghetto (and elsewhere) than drivers of other racial persuasions is because a disproportionate number of them break the law! Of course, the race mongers won’t admit that and the politicians will never say it out loud. So I’ll say it. If you don’t want to get pulled over, turn down the stupid stereo, watch your speed and pay attention to your driving!

I am a black man. I live in a neighborhood that while not awful is a bit sketchy. I am a professional, and have a concealed carry license. I don't carry all that often because I can't carry to work. I take the CTA to work and my employer has a rule against it anyway.
Being stopped by the cops is the last thing I want. I already get stopped a couple times a year just for being out walking my dog. Why some cop thinks a nearly 50 year old man walking a dog needs to be engaged escapes me.
I usually carry when I am out walking the dog. I do not want some trigger happy cop shooting me because he sees a black man with a gun under his jacket, as happened not real long ago in another neighborhood not all that far from me.
If you really believe that I want to be hassled by cops you are delusional. I want the cops to leave me alone unless I call them.
Heck that would be a blessing in disguise in Chicago. Fewer traffic stops means fewer problems for you. Happy to accommodate you Sergeant. Just put it in writing and I will have no problems whatsoever.

I doubt that very much, you would tire of it quickly. Especially when you had someplace to be and the stop was holding you up. You might understand it and appreciate them being proactive but depending on how the stop was handled, you might feel hassled and angry. But I think the real anger from law abiding black citizens should go to those that have glorified the gangster life and to the young thugs and their pathetic moral-less parents that allow them to run wild and become career criminals. They are the ones perpetuating the negative image and continuing the stereotypes. And look at their role models, celebrity trash the youngsters try to emulate. Due to the vast amount of crime committed by this demographic group, cops might look a little closer, even when one has done nothing wrong.
