Nice Bridge Rahm
- Less than two months after the first section of the Navy Pier Flyover opened along the lakefront, the long-delayed pedestrian and bicycle bridge already is showing surprising signs of wear and tear.
The much-anticipated project has taken longer to build than the Golden Gate Bridge, and it’s still not finished. But the section that opened in December already is showing signs of trouble before the rest of the project is completed.
A shiny new bridge that lifts cyclists and runners over traffic on Grand Avenue and Illinois Street opened a few days before Christmas.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the project would “stand the test of time,” but less than two months later, sections of the trail have cracked, markers denoting the different sections for runners and cyclists have faded, lane dividers are missing, and rusted nails are protruding in spots.
Again, who is inspecting bridges? Who is inspecting newly constructed bridges?
And who is collecting paychecks for not doing it?
And who is collecting paychecks for not doing it?

Will it last as long as Rahm's mayor?????? Is that a legacy?
Good old union labor, err, prevailing wage, err, mandatory minority owned and operated business, err umm, well het Its The Chicago Way.
As it is with so much these days, when will enough embarrassment be enough?
Chicago was scammed, no doubt the result of
some markers being called in.
The Golden Gate Bridge was built by drug-free
engineers using slide rules. That's why it's still
there, along with the Empire State Building.
Take A Look At The "Mess" They Have Made Of "Northern Island"! What The Heck Is Going On There?
The Chicago construction contracts are written with a built in obsolescence clause so the contractor has a built in repeat repair guarantee with that portion being a no bid situation. Just charge the city what you think is fair. Those types of contracts are only given or sold to big campaign donors. The Chicago Way prevails in contract form.
It is not about the city paychecks you should be worried about. It is the payoffs to look the other way that should concern you. one of the most coveted jobs in Chicago is a city inspector, unlimited income potential with most non taxable. Bet there inspectors pulling down 200K with only 50K taxable. Nice gig for those with lots of clout and cash o get job.
Cheap building materials.
Never let a crisis go to waste.
We Need more Inspectors.
Go Government. The Chicago Way.
Go after the construction company? Wait for that......
Sounds like high quality gypsy construction practices. The flaming tutu will blame it on the polar vortex again.
Ah you have those ShitCago Unions!
You forgot to ask who is getting the payoffs? Just like when they built our headquarters on 35th St. when we had the tilt a whirl floors which are still there the doors that wouldn’t close but all the rest of the problems because they had a short obviously the construction materials to pay off people to keep the contract that’s what happens in the city been going on for years we need at least a couple thousand federal agents here from the FBI to drain the swamp the most corrupt city in the country think about that and that is from the liberal magazine a news publication saying that so you know it’s much worse.
No offense to CPD but, this is the quality of work by the typical Chicago public employee. If I am mistaken, I apologize. Maybe this was constructed by the usual suspects? Walsh, Kenny Construction, etc. You know. All the insider, connected companies that "donate" to the mayor and aldercreatures.
you think this construction project call for attention take a walk thru or at the old Meig's Field Airport 1800 S. Lakefront now called Northerly Island Park the construction over there has been in disrepair for years now due to faulty construction design and water erosion!
This project alone requires some genuine investigative reporting, maybe from Reader of Ben Jaworski is still employed there. Mysterious long delays in completion. Mysterious tolerance of bizarre design that requires lengthy delay in fabrication-erection and extremely-high added design and construction costs. Mysterious sanctioning by Mayor's Office of such poor project management. Obviously someone benefited - who??
By the way, Crains published a list of the highest-paid non-profit CEOs based in Chicago, another shocking example of waste and corruption. Time to change your list of donation recipients, so that you're not subsidizing outrageous executive salaries. Time to enforce real estate tax collections on these organizations, so that tax-payers aren't unintentionally subsidizing those "non-profit" organizations and their outrageous pay-packages for their executives. YMCA, Goodwill, McArthur Foundation, the "good mission" they do is frankly cancelled-out by ridiculous salaries given to their executives, and fact that they receive income and real estate tax protections (as non-profit organizations) is another pathetic example of rampant governmental-regulation corruption.
Speaking of rahm, I saw on the tube that 9.5 is in Paris. WTF is a lame duck mayor doing in Paris? If it’s a vacation why is he taking vacation so soon to leaving office. If you need a vaction now just resign. There is not a politician in Illinois that isn’t robbing the taxpayers blind.
When you line politicians pockets with the money that was suppose to go into a project, not much left for quality...

Much like the standards and specs for road construction. Crumbling highways are an endless fountain of money for connected cronies.
And more importantly, who built the deathtrap bridge. A connected contractor? In Chicago? Nahhhhhh
Sears tower was built in less time and will last longer. i was on bike unit for 10
years. told people i worked with, i would be retired before it was finished. that came true.
The CDOT inspectors are on the take. The IG looks the other way. You must be nuts if you vote for anyone for mayor who wants to give subpoena power to the IG. Don't you Leo's have enough enemies with IAD, K. Foxx and K. Raoul?

P.S. God bless our first responders.
Crooked Fucks, wait till a major accident happens then watch the finger pointing!
Speaking of getting a LOT for the money, looks like our State's Attorney needs to be at the Oscars and not on her job. We are getting our money's worth out of her - NOT.

How much did the connected contractors get for this boondoggle?
Thanks Rahm....... nah I take that back Fuck You Rahm.
I am glad someone else has chimed in on "The Mess" going on at "Northern Island Park"? I used to ride my bicycle out there often. It was fine. An Oasis in the City. The "Politicians" got involved. They hired a group, of I don't know who's. They came up with some "Bizarre" plan to transform the island into a "Nature Park". To cut to the chase; they made a "Mess" of the whole project. God knows how much many has been wasted. It has been laying in this state of "Mess" for years. The bike trails have been blocked off, and at least half of the Island is closed to public view.
Hello Investigative Reporters !!!
PS: If I parked my car five minutes over the time limit at a parking meter, I would be in more trouble than the people responsible for this "Mess" will ever be in.
Just what the city needs - another underpass/viaduct/sheltered encampment.
Still not finished, way past schedule and with that comes the overruns (and the prevert pissbums).
Rahm got his upfronts paid The Chicago Way.
Sterling Bay got theirs too.
All that’s left is getting the mega millions MuskRat Tunnel Deal inked by April.

Yes sadly I was getting used to seeing the bodies passed out next to the liquor bottles on the inside of the security fence of that"bridge" when I walk to Navy Pier With my Daughter....Upon watching rahm from Paris the mayor talked about when he drives around Chicago neighborhoods hes sees Hate has no home in Chicago signs...Murder, violent crime and chaos call Chicago home.Unfortunately many of it's great, hardworking Citizens become victim to it.In Chicago The Police Officers,Paramedics, Firefighters, Doctors,Nurses along with so many others spend day and night over and over putting victims and criminals back together after they get shot shoot someone shoot each other, beat someone, get beat, get run over get stabbed ,get thrown out a 6th story window or onto the el tracks they even unmangle the multiple bodies at 2am as a result of a idiotic vehicle chase and so much much more.Thank You All.Its so unfortunate hate is quite comfortable in Chicago. How can one claim it isnt? Sure does sound good though.Alot more is needed than a sign with a few word catch phrase in a dark window.
Just because much of the hate gets little or no reporting in newspapers and tv does not mean it doesnt happen and exist.People wise up love Yourself and each other be smart it's such a much better way to live.Dont let yourself be part bs game.
