"Great Dad"
- Family of Donell Davis say he was a good father who made a horrible mistake when he fled a traffic stop and later crashed after a police chase — killing his daughter, 2-year-old Danyla Owens.
“I know what’s in his heart,” his grandmother, Gloria Allen, said after his bond hearing Wednesday on felony counts of reckless homicide, reckless driving and unlawful use of a weapon. “He made a mistake.”
No Gran'mama, a mistake is when you accidentally call someone by the wrong name, or drop an expensive iPhone or misaddress a bill that's due next week.
Getting into a car knowing that you don't have a license is a criminal act. Carrying a gun in the car knowing you don't have an FOID or CCL due to (surprise!) a felony conviction is a criminal act. Fleeing a police stop requires a largish number of deliberate acts - placing the car into gear, stomping the accelerator, ignoring repeated orders and flashing lights, disobeying stop signals and signs, running red lights - all of which are criminal in nature.
And having a two-year-old passenger, your own daughter, unrestrained in the vehicle and probably there only as a prop to avoid either the police or rivals, is yet another conscious criminal act.

A 23-year-old woman was stabbed Wednesday night after encountering a robber at Grant Park.
She was heading east at 9:50 p.m. on the first block of East Ida B. Wells Drive when a man walked over and demanded money, according to Chicago police.
When she said she wasn’t carrying cash, he stabbed her three times in the abdomen before running off with her credit card, police said.
The 23-year-old stumbled into a convenience store in the 500 block of South State to seek help, police said. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with three puncture wounds to the lower abdomen.
No one has been arrested, police said. The suspect was described as a 6-foot black man, between 20 and 30 years of age and wearing a green puffy jacket and blue jeans.
Area Central detectives are investigating.

Laughed at this morning’s news reporting the Columbia College stabbed 3 times last night by a ‘suspect.’ TV crews will interview ‘community’ people like they’re always the victims. You can almost figure out the description of the female college student and the ‘suspect’ when that is all they tell you. It’s laughable when the shell game starts and they interview a ‘normal’ person who ‘lives over here’ or who ‘Works over here...’

That should have been covered in your CCL class. Maybe they offer refresher classes where you can refresh your memory. You can also read up on the relevant laws or contact an attorney.

The fallout of defending yourself with your CC weapon should have been covered in detail during your CC course. There is no "black and white" answer. It's all shades of gray. Not much different from a cop shooting a criminal. There are obviously good shoots and some that can be painted as questionable. Example, Travon Martin. Even though Zimmerman was proven not guilty, he went thru hell and had is life altered. It's best to maintain situational awareness and avoid being forced to draw your gun. That said, better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

If it's someplace where you are sure you're not on camera, leave, GTFO, disassemble the gun and get rid of the pieces where they will never be found. Answer no questions, the 5th amendment is there for a reason, seek immediate counsel if the law shows up.

Interesting (but not surprising) the Tribune story about the Columbia College student filing a false Police report about being robbed and stabbed in grant Park prominently mentions that the student described her attacker as being a Black Male in the original report to police. But when I conducted an exhaustive search for the Tribunes original story from yesterday about the attack, I observed that the story had been completely scrubbed from the Internet.....WHY, you ask? Could it be that the original story NEVER mentioned the race of the attacker! Proof positive of the media intentionally masking negative stories about Democrats

You need to read the law very closely....If there is no sign posted it falls under the first paragraph A which only applies to Civ Concealed holders licensed under that act 430 ILCS 66/65. Security,priv Detectives, Parole,Retired HR 218 are not restricted under Par A. The sign paragraph (A-10)prohibits ALL from carrying on private property if posted with the sign As it reads this would include police officers. The law is very poorly written and has more loop holes than swiss cheese....

Here in Cook County you would run the risk of being prosecuted for gun law violations if you carry in a prohibited place. If you hit an innocent victim downstream, God help you. Get yourself insurance covering the contingency of using your firearm. If arrested, decline to answer questions politely until you have spoken with an attorney from the insurer. You have the right to remain silent. Use it. Do your best to avoid situations where you need to use your firearm.
