One Way to Keep Crime Down
- Authorities arrested dozens of people overnight in a series of drug raids ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
Chicago police Organized Crime officers arrested 32 people in the South Side raids, 21 of whom have previous felony convictions, according to a tweet from CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. Seven of them have prior convictions for gun-related offenses.
Police did not immediately provide further details about the raids or arrests.
Being a previously convicted felon isn't against the law.
Neither is having a gun-related conviction.
Google-me promises further information, and we'd certain hope so, seeing as how what's available in this article is merely bullshit. Is the CPD just sweeping the streets for previously known problem children? Are these parole violations? Named offenders from a sting? Warrants?
Are they all being held at the Homan Square "black site" until the holiday is over?

Doesn’t really matter what they were arrested for. They will be out without any charges.

And I’m sure that will still be the complaint. If you pull a racial breakdown of the 32 places in custody as part of this “holiday initiative,” you’ll see if is disproportionate to the racial breakdown of the city, and therefore it must be racist.

Not only is it tolerated, it’s accepted, and in some parts, it’s glorified. Try starting there. And no, I’m not a detective, either.

They all had drug charges as the news release said. The release also pointed out the previous convictions. The media screwed up their reporting.
No one ever follows up on arrest. Were they in fact charged? What is the disposition of the case? Were they released on bond in a timely manner like the S/A wants? Or is this a BIG game of bullshit we do for whomever is the mayor? We will never know. Media doesn't follow up
What is the point of patrolmen everywhere? Police can't use force unless the "optics" are right, and the state won't charge anyone except officers and MAYBE anyone on scene who can afford an attorney. The CPD is a gun with no bullets, the CPD are go-pros. Good luck, general public!

So if someone in academia wanted to do something that actually would be useful, they would conduct a study of the societal costs (medical, criminal justice, victim impact, etc.) of early release offenders. Don't hold your breath, though, because the policy implications would be so politically incorrect and unpalatable in the "community".

What good is a "safe holiday weekend" when next weekend is going to be the same old shitshow as usual?
I see how this is going. Voters elect the corrupt politicians, the politicians do nothing, including not holding the scum accountable, they play the smoke and mirrors show trying to make it look like they're doing something, people are pissed about the crime, and the corrupt politicians say they're "doing all they can". In the end, nothing happens. The same people get voted into office, the taxes keep going up to pad the pockets of the politicians, the same "tough on crime" act is played, and everyone else (the police and the citizens) are still subject to all the same dangers from the scum. It's obviously not bad enough yet for anyone to take much of a stand beyond complaining about it, so the cycle continues.
Watch out though, because while everyone else is moving out of the city and state to escape the tax/crime trap, the "usual suspects" are strangely disinterested in doing so. Who's your neighbor going to be, when all your good neighbors move away? (And who's going to pay the taxes when your neighbor is a professional look-out or mule?)
