The "Secret Elections"
We can't recall this being actually covered in years past, but this is EXACTLY why we vote "NO" on every single Cook County judge:
- A secret vote is underway to determine which of 138 Cook County judges should keep their jobs.
If you didn’t know about it, that’s no surprise. The only eligible voters for this insiders-only balloting are Cook County circuit judges. It’s up to them to decide who among the current associate judges should stay on the bench, getting new, four-year terms.
Votes are being cast until the end of May.
Supporters of the system say it results in merit selection to a greater degree than the public elections in which circuit judges are chosen.
Merit? Don't make us laugh.
This is where favors are cashed in and judges the voters rejected are once again inflicted on the electorate, this time without their input and behind closed doors.
The parallels to the "merit" process of the CPD are astounding - incompetent connected morons picking more incompetent connected morons and telling each other how "qualified" everyone is while the institution circles the drain.
At least if you vote "NO" on every single judge, the odds are pretty good that there will be too many favors owed to others that the few who couldn't even win a rigged retention vote go to the back of the line.

Welcome to Club Dem! So if a prospective candidate for judge loses in the election for circuit where the voters reject him he can just be appointed under the clout system. The system is closed unless you are a member of, you guessed it, Club Dem. As for the Bar Association, lawyers groups and other judges, there has to be bias it's just human nature. Lawyers want to pick judges who will be favorable to their clients not ones who would be favorable to law enforcement. The Sun Times just opened a bag of maggots.
OT, Roberto Caldero, the guy who supplied viagra to Danny Solis, is telling people his indictment is coming down this week. Interesting that Lightfoot skipped over Hispanic aldermen with seniority and only picked two for chairmanships. Could it be her Fed friends warned her who was being indicted so she wouldn’t be tainted by their crimes?
This corupt system is similar to when a person runs for a political office and loses, the Machine still finds them a job in government somewhere.
What about this one? Had a case where asshole was manufacturing meth in a motel, ultimately with the intent to deliver it to the gay community; well during the cook, asshole blew himself up and caught a motel on fire. Asshole preceded to hospital to relax, 2 days later gets released out of hospital, 30 minutes before detectives arrive. Asshole takes a cab to female he has child in common with— does not produce fair for cab; then delivers ass beating to cab driver who is a pensioner driving cab to pay democratic taxes (campaign funds)... anyways all in all. He is given 3 years in jail with possibility of parole after 1 year.
3 years thanks to cook county judges who cater to assholes instead of justice for victim and potential victims of assholes

why does rahm still have his entire security detail guarding his house when he isn't even a mayor any longer? those officers should be back in their 19th district and get back on a beat car, if they even know how to do paper or respond to jobs any longer as they have been watching an alley 8 hours a day or sitting on a nice tree lined street. why are taxpayers paying thousands a day to guard an EX-mayors house when those cops should be back on the street, life moves on, he AINT a mayor anymore! They had a 8 year vacation, now come back to reality "special" cops and hit the street you have been on vacation from for 8 years.

I keep hearing that we must keep guns out of the hands of criminals. That is backwards. If someone is thought to be dangerous, do not try to change the weapon that they might use. Remove them to a place where they can be helped and controlled away from any weapons. You do not keep cars away from drunks, you keep drunks away from cars. Keep putting the criminals in jail when they perform criminal acts. That keeps their hands away from guns. Adding more fees and permits to legally have firearms does nothing to the criminal having firearms.
Judges are lawyers. The same critters who chase ambulances or are found trolling the hallways of criminal and juvenile court asking people if they need a lawyer. Except, judges are too lazy or stupid to make a living chasing ambulances or trolling the hallways so they lean on family and friends to get them slated and then usually get a lifetime position. Note there are very notable exceptions who shine brightly!

You are doing exactly what you accuse the SlurTimes of doing, painting with a broad brush and slandering good people without facts. Granted your rant about the merit system is correct, but shouldn't it be taken case by case and be about fact?
Two things: 1) make up your own mind about Judge Schwind after reading the actual transcript because it is not about judicial or "job knowledge"or clout, look up his background,

When almost every judge on the Crook County ballot is Democrat even if you don't vote for them they still win.
Who votes is not important--who counts the votes is what is important.

Where is the pubic information about the Cook County Court secret internal voting process. The public votes for judges in the general elections. Why is it necessary for such a vote in the already corrupt system. Is this the unofficial "good old boys" system of keeping in line the judges who may be independent of the Machine. Do what we want or we'll bounce internally. This is another judicial slap at the what the voters think. Another reason, a among many, not to trust the judges in Cook County.
Lightfoot is yapping about reform. Take a look at the State's Attorney's Office, corrupt judges, Cook County Board, the fat tax cheat in Springfield, your Aldermen and City hall. While we're at it, take a look at the Command structure in your Police Department. Corruptive practices also includes knowingly sustaining an incompetent, inept and mismanaged Dept. Keep talking reform - its a cheap commodity around here and so far you talk big but cheap.

I know to you, this seems like a huge problem. But try to remember, you’re in 024! You’ve already hit the lottery. Us on the west and south side would gladly trade spots with u in a heart beat, bad Sgt and all. I mean, what can one bad Sgt really do to you if you go to your jobs and clear them when you’re supposed to. Do your job and there’s nothing the “bad Sgt” can even do to you.

Voting "NO" in all judicial elections is an excellent strategy. If enough voters use it, we might start to see some change in this state.
Statewide, about 1/3 of judges have no business being on the bench. Dumb, inexperienced and often lacking the proper temperament, many circuit and appellate judges have never tried a case. They've gotten their positions because of political connections and donations.
In Crook, the figure is 2/3.

I don't think there is any left after Knuckle and the Riley brothers retired? Republicans in Cook County are better off voting Democrat in the primaries for the most centrist Democrat could of had O'Brien instead of Preckwinkle.
I always vote NO on all the judges. My request is that we let the word out as early as possible for all the early voters. This is in case there may be one judge we may support.
Also remember that a retiring judges gets 90% of their salary. Best in the State of Illinois. what a crock of bs.

Retiring after how long?
I was told that a judge can get 80% of his / her salary after working ONLY 20 years. For a senior judge that’s probably $140,000 - $150,000 for life plus 3% cola each year. The state’s judge pensions are one of the most underfunded pensions at around 14-15%. No need to fear, JB the Hut will sign off on massive tax increases next week at the end of the Spring session to make sure these judges and “taken care of.” I am glad the middle and lower classes will be chipping in with the higher taxes.
